2020 Honda Fit/Jazz

Just comparing the newest picture on top of the real thing, with the previous photos I had posted on this site a while ago.
Which, I guess, would still be just illustrations. But they do see so close to the real thing (top pic)
Except for the lack of grille on the real car.

The yellow car shows a "fake AWD" All Terrain slightly raised up version.
Which might be available in a few markets only (like the current generation)

European version of the new Honda Civic Hatchback

Words are colliding in my head to describe this...

What a horrible mess. Just when you though the US version was overdone, Honda proves us it can do even worse.
I mean, just look at the amount of crappy looking black plastic trim all over this car.
This is a bad design made worse.

Pretty amazing.

A while ago, I was pretty excited when Honda announced the return of the hatchback in the US Civic line. What a great idea! What could go wrong?

This has to be maybe the worse Honda design of all time. And pretty much the worse looking hatchback on the market.
Here, it will compete with "beauties" like the Mazda3, Cruze hatchback, Focus etc...
In Europe, it is in the same segment as the Golf, Astra, Megane etc...

I just cannot imagine who would want to spend their hard earned money in such a visual nightmare.

Honda should be ashamed.

2017 Honda Civic Hatchback

I can't say I am surprised, since I posted a picture of this a long time ago.
Still, I think this is pretty horrible.
(And that's coming from someone who loves hatchbacks)

I mean this is one of the busiest design I have seen in years, making the Mazda3 look like a classy model.
It seems that every other hatchback on the market looks better.

Just look at that rear bumper!
(What is going on in the mind of someone who designs that???)
This is pretty close to a visual nightmare.
Not only when compared to the competition, but also the previous versions of the Civic hatch. The ones we didn't get in the US...

The good news is that now, the 1.5 Liter Turbo is available with the 6 speed manual, not just the CVT.
The manual is available on LX, Sport and EX models.
(So no leather and stick shift for you)

This is the current one. Sold in Europe.
Not the best looking thing ever. But still. the new one makes this look like Marilyn Monroe.

I still think the previous generation was the best ever.
Never sold here, of course.

Still a great looking, original  design.
Now compare this to the new one...

2018 Acura TLX

This is actually pretty sad. The TLX isn't a super exiting car.
But it has been getting really good reviews.
In general, Acuras are really good cars.

And that ugly "Shield" grille had finally been toned down so much, it actually almost looked fine.
(Especially in the revised version of the  smaller ILX)
To the point that I thought it was pretty OK in the TLX.

But it looks like it will soon be getting the "even uglier" new grille design from the 2017 MDX.
And you can pretty much bet the ghastly new design will be crafted on all other Acura models.

(Just like that new horrific grille from the Lincoln Continental. Which is now ruining the MKZ design.)

Of course, design is a matter of taste. But I really think this old fashion, plasticky
big grille (now useless) design has to go. It does not imply luxury anymore.
It just looks tacky and cheap.

It seems that Acura  has really lost it as far as design goes. They seem completely lost.
They are now mixing boring and ugly.
Which never, ever works...

One phone call to a good designer could fix most of that mess. Really.
They need to put their ego aside and realize they just can't do it and call for help.

2017 Honda Civic Hatchback

Looks like it is already in production. Or at least, some pre-production models are being built in the British factory.
We are supposed to be getting this model in the US as well.
(The one pictured here looks like it could be the sporty R model)

Things might change, or be delayed due to the British exit from the European Market.
Since England will now have to renegotiate trade deals with everyone, including the US.
If there is some kind of tariff, the car might just become too expensive to export.

Let's hope Honda finds a way around this...
Here is a picture I published a while ago. Obviously not the R version.
But probably the one we will actually see in the streets.

The new compact hatchback segment will be pretty crowded next year.
With older models like the Focus, Mazda3, Kia Forte5. But also all new noels like the redesigned Elantra GT, Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback. Nissan will also bring a hatch version of the next Sentra.

All great news...

2018 Honda Accord

A reader sent me this picture of an upcoming toy car.
And it looks a lot like the next Honda Accord.

At least it could be.
An all new Accord is due out next year. A big year for mid sized sedans since an all new Toyota Camry will join the party at around the same time.

The new Accord is based on a longer version of the current Civic. So it will actually be a bit shorter than the current model.
Also expect a 2.0 Liter turbo to replace the V6. Not sure if the base engine will still be the 2.4 Liter or the newer 1.5 Liter Turbo.

2017 Honda Avancier

So far, this is only intended for the Chinese market.

(We have seen the new Avancier before, these are just some pictures I hadn't seen before)

It is positioned above the CRV. But it is still a 5 seater. No 3rd row here.
It is also powered by a more powerful 2.0 Liter Turbo engine.

Interior looks OK, in a super boring japanese car interior sort of way.
At least it is not as offensive as the exterior design.
Which is one of the worst I have seen in many years.

Let us all prey that Honda never ever imports this thing over here.

2017 Honda Gienia

This is yet another small Honda based on the Fit.
This time it looks like a 4 door coupe version of the regular Fit. More or less...

The car pictured above isn't look that great. With its lack of trim around the windows and small wheels.

It is based on the Concept B we saw a while ago. And again, this is not planned for the US. Or anywhere outside of China. Yet...
This is the Concept version.
Which is actually really close to the production model and does look fine.

2017 Honda Freed

Just like the HR-V, the tiny Freed Minivan is actually based on the current Honda Fit.
But unlike the HR-V, this won't be coming over here.
(Not sure if this new version will make it into Europe yet)

It looks OK. You can tell it's related to the Fit.
I guess the Mazda CX-5 proved there is no market for things like this in the US.
The Freed being even smaller could be even less popular.

Same reason why Honda has decided not to sell the sedan version of the Fit (Which has been around in other countries for a while now)
The sedan market in the US seems to be loosing a lot of grounds to SUVs/Crossovers.

But who knows, there might be a niche market for this. No more Scion, no more Nissan Cube.
Maybe this could take over ? A little bit??

Here is the current version of the Freed.
Again, the connection with the previous Fit is quite obvious...

2017 Honda Odyssey

There it is again. The next Odyssey.

It does look pretty slick already.
Seems that everyone knew that Chrysler was coming up with something pretty modern.
So now it's time to catch up.

Not sure from these pictures if the rear side window will be getting a similar treatment is has now.
But there is a bit of a scoop visible on the second picture.

These were taken by a friend of mine.
Cartoonist/show creator/surfer/overall great guy.

So thanks!

Acura CDX Interior

I have to admit, they did a fine job making sure the Acura version ends up different and more upscale than the Honda HR-V it is based on. Really.

I mean, sure, you can still tell. Just like the outside of the car.
It seems that most interior parts are new.
It also uses a different, more powerful engine. It has an 8 speed automatic instead of a CVT.
And that super large ugly grille the Honda version doesn't have.

Honda has already said they have no "current" plans to import this to the US.
But you know they will. It's just a matter of time.
Just like Audi was never going to bring us the small Q3.

It's like a drug. They just can't help it. The US market is so hungry for any kind and any size of SUVs.
The temptation for profits is just to great.
Sooner or later, all SUVs end up over here.

All new Honda Avancier Video

One of the best example of something "so bad it is great".

This has to be one of the most obnoxious car videos ever.
And the fun part is that it is for one of the worst looking car ever. Which makes it a truly great watch.

The CGI, the soundtrack, the directing, the "madame Tussault inspired" acting.
Everything comes together to created a truly wretched experience.
Something horrible for all senses.

Just like the design of the car, this video is displaying a new low for humanity.
(Or maybe just the car business...)

Enjoy!

New Honda Avancier

That's right. Another SUV/Crossover thing from Honda.
Another ugly one.

At least the part where it says "for the Chinese market only" is good news.

The Avancier is a 5 seater that will be priced above the CR-V.
Powered by a new 2.0 Liter Turbo engine. Which will probably find its way under the hood of the next Accord.

There is nothing like this in the US lineup. Where Honda jumps from the CR-V to the 7/8 seater Pilot.
Nissan has the Murano while Toyota offers a 5 seater version of the Highlander.

This looks like a mash up of a bunch of designs from a few other manufacturers.
It has zero personality of its own.
It is so bad it's almost weird...

If the name sounds familiar, it is because Honda did produce a car named Avancier before.
It was a tall wagon based on the Japanese Accord and sold over there from 1999 to 2003.
A bit boring, but not ugly like this poor guy above.

Now, let us all get on our knees and pray for this thing to never make it to the US market.
Please....

Honda Clarity EV and Plug-In Hybrid coming up

Honda will start selling pure EV and Plug-In hybrid versions of the all new Clarity next year.
The "regular" Hydrogen version is still on track for later this year.

I think this is a great move from Honda. they have just announced their 2017 Accord Hybrid.
And there is no plug-in version this time. This will be the Clarity's job.
They also claim that version will have over 40 miles of pure EV range.
Which is better than anything else in the segment, except the Volt.

I sat in the Clarity and I can tell you it is quite roomier than the Volt.
Although the trunk is pretty tiny. And it is not a hatchback.

And... It doesn't look much better in person.
Granted, it looks 100 times better than the poor Toyota Mirai. But really, what doesn't...

The design is way overdone. The starting shape is fine, but they added so many bits and parts everywhere that it ends up looking like an 80's rejected design from Citroen.
Which is really too bad.

Maybe the "non-hydrogen" versions will be slightly different. (These rear fenders covering the wheels... What were they thinking?)
I think the first generation actually looked much nicer.

Inside, it is also vastly nicer than the Mirai.
As the Toyota is not only ugly and weird, but also really cheap.
The Clarity has a much nicer interior.

But when you compare it to many other current "regular" cars, it's really not that amazing. I think it should really be more futuristic.

It will all depend on price of course. Will all the incentives included, the Plug-in version might end up costing less than the Accord hybrid.

All new Honda U-RV

So far this is for the Chinese market only.
Which is just fine.
Unlike the new Mazda CX-4, I think this should stay as far from us as possible.

It is supposed to slot between the CR-V and the Pilot.
Engines are rumored to be the usual 2.4 Liter or a 2.0 Liter Turbo.
It is pretty much the production version of the Concept D introduced last year in Shanghai.

This is yet another example of Japanese design gone horribly wrong. Again, after years of being labeled as "boring", they are now diving deeply into the "Vulgar", "Overdesigned" and "Should not exist".
The sad part is that I think there is probably room for this in Honda's US "SUV Hungry" lineup.

No matter how ugly the production model is, it can never compete with the true nightmare that Concept D was.
The U-RV looks like a playboy playmate next to this monster.

For once, toning down was a good thing. Almost...

2017 Honda Civic Hatchback

I did have an accurate picture of this a few weeks ago.
So this is not a big surprise.

Still, a welcome addition to the US Civic line up.
Now it can do battle with the Focus, Mazda3 and Cruze Hatch when it comes out later this year.

How about a Del Sol version next?

2017 Honda Civic Hatchback

We are supposed to see a "concept" version of the new Civic hatchback at the Geneva auto show, very soon. (which will have some over sporty bits and stuff)
But this is supposed to be the production version for the US.
Still looking quite nice. And ready to do battle with the aging Ford Focus over here.

Although, that "Honda seal of quality" has been tarnished a bit with a recall of all 2016 Civic sedans due to possible engine failure. Which is pretty bad...

A hatchback version of the new Elantra is also due out pretty soon.
And the new Cruze hatchback looks to be a serious contender.

Still, it's good to finally see the Civic Hatch back in the US...

(Thanks for this to a reader from Torrance)

2017 Honda Odyssey

Apparently, this is actually the next Honda Odyssey for 2017. (So I've been told)

It is still pretty covered up. And it looks like... A minivan.
So don't except anything original.

So far I think the best looking one out there is the new Kia Sedona. Which does have a really nice, almost non-minivan, interior.
