Of course the 2020 Ford Escape has a larger screen in China...

The 2 top photos are the Chinese market model.

And, like most Fords sold over there, it has a much larger screen available than the equivalent US models.
But in the case of the Escape, it also has a more upscale and different dashboard and console design.
The whole thing does seem more upscale. And less like the 2019 Ford Focus interior. (The one not sold over here anymore.)
Outside, the Chinese model also has a different front end.

Interesting...

What could have been: Ford Mustang

This is a prototype of a Mustang model from 1966.
Not sure what model this was supposed to be. Or if it was intended as just a show car.

These headlights were obviously not legal yet in the 60s. The look like they were taken from a German Ford, like a Taunus or Capri.

But the overall look resembles the larger 1971 model. 5 years before it came out.
It actually feels like a cross between the 67 and the 71.
And I must say, the "HotWheel" wheels look pretty cool..

The
Here is what the Mustang ended up looking like in 1971.
I still do like that straight fastback design.

All new Ford Ka+

This is both baffling and sad.

Sad, because Ford has been coming out with one good design after another for years.
Especially sad, because the first generation Ka was such a cool and different car.
This is not only plain ugly, it also looks really cheap and already old.
It does have a strange 3rd world look to it. Or something from Russia or China.

Baffling because.. Why??
Why do they need this car in the first place?

Is the market for a super boring tiny 4 door hatchback that huge in Europe?
Other offerings in the segment from Peugeot, Renault or Opel look futuristic next to this.
Even the 8 year old Fiat 500 looks 1000 times better than this.

Why? Why?? Why???
This is the  first generation Ka. Which came out in 1996.
And stayed in production until 2008. Yes, that is 12 years!
That's what a good modern and original does. It stays good, modern and original for a long time!

The second generation was much more conservative.
But this new one already looks old...

Sad...

Ford Escape Spy shots

Not sure what Ford is testing here.
But these pictures of a "still" camouflaged Ford Escape were taken just a couple of days ago in California.
Strange since it seems to be a regular 2017 model.
That' we've already all seen.

It really seems to be the same thing.
They are obviously still testing something. Just not sure what.

What's going on here?
What do you think?

2017 Ford Fusion

The model pictured above is the new Sport version.
It comes with a 2.7 Liter Turbo V6 with 325HP and AWD.

I really like the Fusion. I think it is one of the very best mid size car available in the US.
It drives and looks great. (It also has a more European feel than any VWs sold here.)

The changes to the front and rear do not ruin the great design. Thank God.

Inside, it looks like the main change is in the center console. Where the shifter has now disappeared.

Here are a couple of pictures of the current version.
So we can all remember the recent past...

2017 Ford Escape

Ford claims most of the sheet metal on the 2017 model is new. (Red car is the 2017)
So, let's see.  It really doesn't seem like it at all.
Not that an all new car is expected, or even needed. The Escape is still one of the best looking compact SUV around. And it also drives great.

This is just a mid-cycle refresh that allows it to look a little bit more like its big brother, the new Edge.

Inside, the console seems to be the biggest news. Where the new design (Top picture) makes the Escape interior look and feel more like a car.

Ford Mondeo Vignale

The Fusion's European cousin, the Mondeo, can now be ordered as a new top of the line model, called Vignale.
From the name of an old design company. (Just like Ford did in the 70's by  using the name "Ghia" on their top of the line models. So not a new idea...)

The Fusion is still one of the very best looking sedan available, and it still looks great with mode chrome/detailing.
There is no Taurus or Lincoln in Europe. So the Mondeo is the top sedan. Which leaves room for a luxury version.
Not the case here in the US. Where the Fusion is squeezed under the Taurus.

By the way, it looks fantastic as a hatchback (pictured above). And the wagon isn't bad either...

Something you don't see every day...

But anything is possible in Laurel Canyon...
