European version of the new Honda Civic Hatchback

Words are colliding in my head to describe this...

What a horrible mess. Just when you though the US version was overdone, Honda proves us it can do even worse.
I mean, just look at the amount of crappy looking black plastic trim all over this car.
This is a bad design made worse.

Pretty amazing.

A while ago, I was pretty excited when Honda announced the return of the hatchback in the US Civic line. What a great idea! What could go wrong?

This has to be maybe the worse Honda design of all time. And pretty much the worse looking hatchback on the market.
Here, it will compete with "beauties" like the Mazda3, Cruze hatchback, Focus etc...
In Europe, it is in the same segment as the Golf, Astra, Megane etc...

I just cannot imagine who would want to spend their hard earned money in such a visual nightmare.

Honda should be ashamed.

2017 Honda Civic Hatchback

I can't say I am surprised, since I posted a picture of this a long time ago.
Still, I think this is pretty horrible.
(And that's coming from someone who loves hatchbacks)

I mean this is one of the busiest design I have seen in years, making the Mazda3 look like a classy model.
It seems that every other hatchback on the market looks better.

Just look at that rear bumper!
(What is going on in the mind of someone who designs that???)
This is pretty close to a visual nightmare.
Not only when compared to the competition, but also the previous versions of the Civic hatch. The ones we didn't get in the US...

The good news is that now, the 1.5 Liter Turbo is available with the 6 speed manual, not just the CVT.
The manual is available on LX, Sport and EX models.
(So no leather and stick shift for you)

This is the current one. Sold in Europe.
Not the best looking thing ever. But still. the new one makes this look like Marilyn Monroe.

I still think the previous generation was the best ever.
Never sold here, of course.

Still a great looking, original  design.
Now compare this to the new one...

2017 Honda Civic Hatchback

Looks like it is already in production. Or at least, some pre-production models are being built in the British factory.
We are supposed to be getting this model in the US as well.
(The one pictured here looks like it could be the sporty R model)

Things might change, or be delayed due to the British exit from the European Market.
Since England will now have to renegotiate trade deals with everyone, including the US.
If there is some kind of tariff, the car might just become too expensive to export.

Let's hope Honda finds a way around this...
Here is a picture I published a while ago. Obviously not the R version.
But probably the one we will actually see in the streets.

The new compact hatchback segment will be pretty crowded next year.
With older models like the Focus, Mazda3, Kia Forte5. But also all new noels like the redesigned Elantra GT, Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback. Nissan will also bring a hatch version of the next Sentra.

All great news...

2017 Honda Civic Hatchback

I did have an accurate picture of this a few weeks ago.
So this is not a big surprise.

Still, a welcome addition to the US Civic line up.
Now it can do battle with the Focus, Mazda3 and Cruze Hatch when it comes out later this year.

How about a Del Sol version next?

2017 Honda Civic Hatchback

We are supposed to see a "concept" version of the new Civic hatchback at the Geneva auto show, very soon. (which will have some over sporty bits and stuff)
But this is supposed to be the production version for the US.
Still looking quite nice. And ready to do battle with the aging Ford Focus over here.

Although, that "Honda seal of quality" has been tarnished a bit with a recall of all 2016 Civic sedans due to possible engine failure. Which is pretty bad...

A hatchback version of the new Elantra is also due out pretty soon.
And the new Cruze hatchback looks to be a serious contender.

Still, it's good to finally see the Civic Hatch back in the US...

(Thanks for this to a reader from Torrance)

More pictures of the all new 2016 Honda Civic Coupe

First...

What is wrong with Honda's PR department?!?!
A few months ago we got these "1st official" horribly fake looking pictures of the new Civic sedan.
Now we get horribly depressing interior color. I mean look at this!

Grey interiors can be nice. Very nice.
But this is terrible. It makes the whole thing look like a horrible place to be.
Which is really too bad since the interior design is actually fine.
(Although not a big fan of the weird fake looking metal/plasticky thing along the dashboard)
Let's hope they do have another color combo at the auto show...

Now for the car. I think the rear view looks pretty heavy. Almost weird.

And again, good luck loading stuff through what has to be a tiny trunk opening.

But, no matter what, it is great to see a giant car maker like Honda still coming up with 2 door cars.
This is pretty rare.
Good for them for still offering coupe versions of the Civic and Accord.

2016 Honda Civic Coupe

First official picture of the all new coupe version of the 10th generation Civic!!

So far, the usual for a Civic coupe. Same engines as the sedan.
Same new features, like available LED headlights, Apple Car play, 7 inch screen, heated seats etc...

MPG for both engines comes to a 35MPG average.
All this and 5 inches more rear leg room!

I still think that such a design should really be a hatchback. I mean it looks 100% like one.
But has none of the advantages.
So weird...

More very soon.

All new 2016 Honda Civic

Here is it, the all new Civic.

The first thing I noticed was... the pictures!!
And how bad they are! I mean really. A huge company like Honda cannot hire a decent photographer to launch one of their most important model ever????
Look at that super crappy photoshop job on the top 2 photos.
This is really bad and gives a horrible first impression.

Now for the car. It does look super modern. (I think it could look great in better pix)
The interior seems pretty upscale. Despite the weird color on the shitty pix. (is it a black interior? Dark grey?)
Everything seems pretty high end for a compact car.
This could be great in person.

Engines are also new.
LX and EX models are getting a new 2.0 Liter with 158PH, and a 6 speed manual or CVT
EX-T and EX-L models get the 1.5 Liter Turbo with over 170HP. CVT only

Honda claims the 1.5 liter will get over 40MPG.

it looks much longer on the pictures but is only about an inch longer than the current model.
But about 2 inches wider.
Coupe and hatchback versions are coming out later.

More soon. (Maybe even better pix...)

What do you think?

All new Honda Civic

This is quite surprising. Even after seeing tons of spy shots, patent drawings etc...

I think the new Civic looks very impressive. Some details are a bit much. Like busy bumper design, that chrome pice on the grille.
But overall, this looks really good. And much more modern and upscale.
There will be a coupe version of course.
And, for the 1st time in many years (in the US) a hatchback.

I think this could actually really hurt the Accord. It this new Civic is roomier, why every bother with something larger and more expensive?

Go to civicX.com for more.

2016 Honda Civic

The new Civic will have much more style than before.
Especially the sedan. And the coupe will be what we saw just a while ago as that neon green concept.

These black and white patent designs are as usual, not flattering at all.
And it already looks pretty nice.

They also both remind me of this Concept B from last year. A lot actually.

At the time, Honda had mention this design would become a production car "within 2 years".
I just wonder if it will end up being the next hatchback Euro Civic.

Which will be offered in the US as well. For the fist time in many years.
