2013 Toyota Auris

The current Auris was never sold in the US. It is what Europe gets instead of the ultra bland Corolla.

This all new model doesn't really look that much modern than the current one.
So it looks like they might follow the same recipe with the next Corolla.
"All new but the same".

And the Auris has always been the much more modern one of the two....

This could be a tough sale in Europe against much better looking competition. Including the new Hyundai i30 and Kia Ceed.
This new Auris looks like a mess compared to these 2...

Toyota simply hasn't a clue when it comes to balanced/aesthetically pleasing design. Just look at all the hype/hyperbole preceded the release of the latest Camry about it being so groundbreaking and sporty, yet all we got was a more slab-sided rehash of the last (completely boring) generation with a silly looking skirt of the front and rear, and a chunk taken out of the taillights. Toyota's design Team Sucks!

My god this is absolutely dreadful.

Toyota's success in the marketplace can only be attributed to the fact that they produce reliable vehicles. One would hope, that given their success, they would invest in better design....sadly they don't, especially for the USA. With that said, I've seen far worse designs than this from Toyota.

...instead of Corolla or rather the Matrix ? Much closer to Matrix to me for the style. But I know the Matrix is also a Corolla base.

Nothing exciting from them...

from the rear sort of looks like a lexus ct, which i don't consider to be a bad thing. seen plenty of the little lexuses around and think they're quite smart actually (especially compared to the bloated "anime pig" mini countryman)

This in not related to the Matrix because it is not a GM design. The Matrix was part of a joint GM-Toyota venture that created the Pontiac Vibe, Toyota Corolla and Matrix, Geo Prism, and the last Chevy Nova. All were drawn by the same people and built by the same people in the same plants. (One was in California). And this is no relation to them (It would be much better looking if GM had been involved).

This is a really trashy looking design, as is the new Camry and Sienna, Corolla and most Lexus. I agree that their success can be attributed to the fact that they are well built. But frankly, all mainstream brands are about as good or even better ranked than toyota. I'd much rather have to take my car to the dealer (to what amounts to .01 additional times, statistically speaking) to adjust a rattle than to drive a disgustingly bland car like a Toyota.

This looks like a Chinese copy of the last generation Kia C'eed that was designed 5 years ago. Toyota is outsourcing its design to $5 an hour Chinese.
