Lucid Motors Atieva sedan

These are the first pictures of the all new sedan, from an equally all new company.
(Although they have shown teasers/details before, this is the first time we see the whole car. Although it is still camouflaged.)

You can already tell this will be really nice and sporty looking.
Their aim is also to match the interior space of larger luxury cars like the S-Class and 7 series.
As you can see above, their sedan is much smaller.
They claim an EV range of well over 300 miles.
And power up to 900HP (!) Although the "base" model should be around 400HP.

I just hope this is a true Tesla competitor. And not some million dollar car no lone will buy or even care about.
I love the idea of all new small companies competing with the big established players.
And I hope this will be priced like a Tesla sedan.

The Lucid Motors company itself os one of these "Based in California with Chinese investors"
So it's pretty much a Chinese company.
They are currently in the process of looking for a factory.
Their super optimistic goal is 20 000 cars in the first year, and about 130 000 a year after that.

(We've all heard crazy numbers like these before, from others...)

These are details published a while ago. All looking great.

The car is supposed to be shown this week at the L.A Auto show.
I will be there. Taking pictures and asking questions!

I do with them well. We can never have too many good looking cars around.

New Chevrolet Spark Activ

Basically what almost everyone else is doing right now: Turn anything with a hatch into an SUV.
Why not, . If that's what the masses want.
If it helps selling real cars.

I test drove the Spark a while ago and really liked it.

But also missed the personality of the previous design. Maybe this helps making the current model a bit less generic.
It does look pretty cute. And much nicer and subtle than what Honda did when they turned the Fit into that new WR-V for south America last week.
At least they didn't add a super giant chrome grille to the Spark.

The new Activ model starts at about $18 000 for the manual.
Sure, that seems expensive when compared to the base model which starts at about $13 000.
But the Activ model is based on the 2LT version. Which is $17 200.
So that "fake SUV" visual package is basically only about $800.

Which isn't bad, really. For something a bit different.

2018 Jeep Wrangler

The top one is that all new model coming out... really soon.
( I posted a picture of the current Wrangler so we can see the differences)

Most people would say this is still a mule. Using the current body on top of the new farm and engine.
I actually don't think so.
I think it will just look that close to the current one.
Which is a little bit sad.
Even Porsche has found a way to make the 911 very modern and yet retain its classic lines.
It obviously has all new bumpers. Fenders do look different. As the tail lights (a bit)

What do you think?
Is this still a mule or the new design?
Will the all new Wrangler be that much of a clone of the old one?

2017 Alfa Romeo Stelvio

This is probably the last spy shot we are going to see of the all new Alfa Romeo SUV.
Since it is officially being introduced next week.

And just like its sedan cousin, it is looking really good so far.
So now Alfa will be directly competing with the Audi A4 and Q5 in the US.
(And many others)
With much nicer looking designs.

Let's hope this is just the beginning....

2017/18 VW Golf

The curent model is a good looking car. So new lights and bumpers don't ruin it (Although there is a lot of stupid black plastic trim now)
Inside, the large center screen looks good.
(But I still see the digital instruments screen as a gimmick.)
Outside, LED tail lights are now standard on all models too.

There is a new 1.5 Liter engine with 150HP. Not sure yet if this will be replacing the "new" 1.4 Liter that is the base engine here in the Jetta. (Our US Golf comes with a 1.8 Liter as base engine)
And, at least in Europe, the 6 speed auto is replaced by a new 7 speed unit.

It is a 2017 model in Europe.
But should be coming here maybe next summer (or even a little bit before) as a 2018 model.

All new Honda WR-V

Honda just added another "something"R-V to their line up.

It is basically a raised up Fit.
The current Fit is not a pretty car (The previous generation was so much better looking)
So this isn't going to win any beauty contest.
Raising the Fit up a few inches and adding plastic bits all around and a big grille isn't going to improve its look that much.

But it looks like everybody wants a fake SUV these days.
And something small and cheap could attract a few, who might otherwise think the regular Fit is too boring.
At least in South America.
So far the only market for this new Honda.

Should they offer this in the US?
What do you think?

2017 VW Golf

These were sent to me from Europe. And I am not 100% sure they are the real thing.

We won't have long to find out, since the revised (not all new) 2017 Golf will be shown to the press tomorrow.

They do look pretty realistic. Showing a pretty useless mid cycle facelift.
Inside, the biggest news is the addition of a much larger screen on the console.
And another one replacing the dials, like the Audi system.
(Which, I thought was just a gimmick when trying it in  the Audi A4)

2018 Honda Odyssey

These pictures (Although quite amazing. Extraordinary. Unique. And quite a scoop) are not really new. As I posted them before.
They are of the all new Honda Odyssey minivan testing around Los Angeles.

(By the way, next year will be a huge one for Honda. With an all new CR-V already introduced to the press.
An all new Accord and this Odyssey.)
I just noticed the Odyssey pictures above look a lot like this recent patent design from Honda.
Showing a new design that manages to be boring and ugly at the same time.

And here is the real  thing.
The new Honda Elysion for the Chinese market.

But this Elysion does look a lot like the Odyssey spy shots above.
(I know the spy model is all covered up and who really knows what is under there.)

What do you think?

Are we getting a version of the Elysion as out next Odyssey?
Are vulgar Chinese designs being imposed upon the US market?
Has Honda lost their mind?
Who are you people?

2017 Opel Insignia/2018 Buick Regal teaser

First official teaser for the all new Insignia.
Lots of LEDs. Like everyone else these days...

I am still a big fan of the current model. having driven the US Buick version a few times.
And I can't wait for the next one.

We will be getting the sedan and the wagon versions. (An AWD slightly raised up version similar to what VW is doing here with the Golf Wagon Alltrack.)
Europe will still be getting the slicker hatchback as well.

2017 Audi A5 Cabriolet

The expected convertible version of the new A5 is here.
And it is everything we knew it was going to be.
The new car is on top. While the second picture is the other one. Hrd to tell the "all new" design isn't it.
This is really the pinnacle of lazy car design
Interior is exactly the same as the coupe.
Which is the same as the A4 sedan. Still not impressive. At all.

As I mentioned before, I drove the new A4 in Europe for a few days and was not impressed.
Especially by the lack of any luxury feeling of the new interior.

In the US, the current A5 convertible starts at about $49 000.
Only about $1000 less than the all new Mercedes C-Class Convertible.

The Mercedes has a real luxury car interior. While the Audi isn't above the level of a modern VW.

No thanks...

Ever wondered what a 4 door Opel Adam would look like?

The Chinese company DearCC has an answer for you.
It might not be the answer you want. But here it is.
Another poorly designed shameless Chinese clone of a European design.

This one is actually an electric car.
With a claimed autonomy of about 90 miles. With a top speed of around 55MPH.
So, really, nothing great.

Although, I must say. I have seen worse looking interiors...

2018 BMW 6 series

Looks like another good looking 6 series.

BMW's large coupe has always looked really nice. And from the new pictures HERE, this will be another good looking design.

It's the usual BMW schedule: we get a new 6 series coupe right after the new 5 series sedan.
So here it is...

Next will be an all new Z4, 3 series and a large 8 series coupe.

Whether we will be getting the small 1 series compact sedan over here or not is still up in the air.
BMW claims that car is for China only. But who knows.
They could even import a few from there.
Since the CLA and A3 are not doing too bad in the US...

2017/18 Rolls Royce Cullinan

It looks like in the race for the ugliest super expensive SUV, a new contender has emerged.
Rolls Royce is actually working on a brand new SUV.  Something we should see next year.
It will be very tough to come up with something uglier than the Bentley Bentayga, but they might be up to the task.

If the picture above shows us the real thing, we can expect yet another swim in the lake of infinite blasphemy.

But.. It will sell, of course.
And probably more than any model Rolls Royce has ever produced.
So, why the hell not.

All Volvo S90 sedan production moving to China (!)

Yes... Volvo has announced that the production of the all new S90 sedan will move from Sweden to China.
Claiming the Swedish factory cannot produced enough cars. (The S90 has a 4 month waiting list in some European countries)
But they are not adding production to China to help the Swedish factory meet high demand. They are just moving the whole thing there...
ALL S90s will be made in China. And exported back the Europe and the US as well.

I can't help but feeling a little sad about this. Of course, since Geely bought Volvo a few years ago, we all knew this would happen some day.

Geely has also announced that 2 new factories will also build the current model of the S60. As well as the all new S60 and V60 due out next year.
And a 3rd Chinese factory will build the all new S40 and XC40 compact models.

They have not said if the S60 and S40 will still be built in Sweden as well, or if all the production is moving to China.

It looks like Sweden could only be making the XC90 and XC60 in Sweden soon.
And for how long? Is this the beginning of the end for all Swedish made Volvos?

Like I said, predictable, but sad...

2018 Toyota Camry

The Camry is still Toyota's best selling model in the US. And the best selling car in the country.
So this is one super important model.
All new pictures have emerged. Where you can really see the actual car.

Make sure you click HERE to see all of these new pix.
This is what we saw a few weeks ago. When Toyota unveiled their new racing version of the Camry.
So this is pretty much a more aggressive version of the next Camry.

Here are two new illustrations .
And they do look really close to the pictures posted HERE.

So again, the Camry design is a quiet evolution of the previous one.
Something that has worked very well for them so far.

But Toyota has already admit the next generation RAV-4 might be so popular, it could actually outsell the nextCamry.

The new model will also have to deal with an all new Honda Accord, coming out just a short time after the Toyota.

2017 Buick Avenir

Remember that great looking Buick Avenir concept from about two years ago.
Well, of course we're not getting it.
What we are getting is the name, not the car. "Avenir" will be used for a high end option trim on some Buick models.

The first one unveiled is the Avenir trim on this Chinese Buick GL8 Minivan.
(It's almost an insult to the gorgeous concept car of the same name...)

I guess here in the US, we can expect the Avenir trim to be offered on the new Lacrosse.
And maybe the Envision. (Which already comes from China anyway)

Looks like Buick is trying the same thing Lincoln is doing with their "Black Label" luxury trim.
The Black Label option package is great on the Lincoln molded I saw.
But I couldn't help thinking it should be standard. It would really make Lincoln stand out.

Same thing here. Except Buick cannot compete with the more expensive Cadillac brand.
It's been the same problem for GM for generations.

A problem Lincoln doesn't have.

More pictures of the New Honda Avancier

I thought posting pictures of what I see as one of the ugliest design ever was appropriate, for Halloween.

The all new Avancier crossover is now on sale. In China.
And (let us all pray) as far as we know, that's where it will stay.

It is powered by a 2.0 Liter Turbo. And fits in between the CR-V and Pilot. Seating 5.
Inside it looks more like an Acura than a Honda.(That interior is actually not bad)

I guess here it would mainly compete with the Nissan Murano.
Which is also a "luxury wannabe" crossover from a non-luxury brand.

2018/19 Alfa Romeo mid size sedan

These are still, unfortunately, just computer illustrations.
And that is really too bad.

I am sure an Italian luxury sedan looking like this could quickly find an audience.
Competing with the new Volvo S90, Mercedes E Class, BMW 5 series and next Audi A6.

Alfa is busy right now with finishing up testing on the Stelvio SUV.
But there are plans for a larger sedan like the one pictured above. And a larger SUV based on that longer platform.

So there is hope.

2017/18 Opel Insignia/Buick Regal

This is a sportier GS version.
And of course, a hatchback.
Which we are not scheduled to get in the US.

The all new, larger Insignia will come here next year as the new Buick Regal.
Just like the Cascada, it will be imported from Europe.
The US will get a sedan version, not the hatchback.
As well as the wagon model.

I always liked the current Regal. Still looking great.

I can't wait to see and drive the next one.
