2016 Mazda CX-3

This looks really nice.
It is smaller and cheaper than the CX-5 (obviously), but I think it looks better.
Plus, it even uses the same 2.0 Liter engine. Which should make it a bit quicker than the larger model.
Automatic is standard on all models.

I think this might end up stealing sales from the more boring CX-5...

2016 Mazda Models at the Los Angeles Auto Show

A pretty good showing for Mazda.
We will see the US version of the all new Miata. The revised CX-5 and Mazda6.
But the big news is the all new Mazda CX-3. (Bottom right)

It will do battle with the Honda HR-V and Chevrolet Trax, mostly.

And it already looks pretty good on this teaser...

I will be there and will be taking and posting pix of everything.

VW Golf R Variant

So this is the crazy 300HP version of our upcoming 2016 Sportwagen.
This will get tons of people excited I'm sure.

Yet, how many will actually buy an expensive 300HP compact wagon in the US...

I will be introduced at the L'A Auto Show, so I am assuming it will make it over here. But really, who knows...

2016 Toyota Mirai

No matter how much people will hate this car, it is a very big deal.

One of the very first Hydrogen car available for a normal price.
By "normal", I mean $57 500. ( Actually closer to $45 000 with incentives)

Still not cheap. But the lease is $499. And that does includes free hydrogen.
So if you fill up your car once week, you could deduct about $200 from that lease price.

Now its pretty similar to a loaded Camry. Which is quite amazing for such new/futuristic technology.
The range is about 300 miles, and refueling takes 5 minutes.
Toyota will even build fueling stations in the Boston/New York area as well as southern California.

I think this could be really cool.

Now for that design.... It's pretty sad. I mean the greenhouse looks fine. The general shape is just OK.
But the details everywhere are so awkward and overdone. Why?

I do like the idea of such a special car standing out in a crowd. But being weird and ugly is not the right way to stand out.

Mitsubishi considering Mirage sedan for the US

For some reason, Mistubishi is now making a profit in the US.
I say" for some reason", because it does seem pretty weird to me.

As they don't have much to offer. The Lancer has been the same for years. It's an OK car, but it's not really on anyone's radar.
Same with the Outlander and smaller Outlander Sport.

But somehow, the ugly and cheap Mirage seems to sell. Another surprise since it's not THAT cheap, (compared to how cheap it looks) starting at $13 000.

Now they are bringing this more "upscale" sedan version.
I guess the competition for that would be the Nissan Versa.

And they will also bring an EV version of the Outlander next year. I can't see that be a big seller...

Weird...

2016 Renault Laguna

First, these are, of course, just illustrations.
Second, we don't get the Laguna here. We never have and never will.

But the current generation shares most of its platform with our Nissan Altima.
I do think it is time for the Laguna and the Altima to basically become the same car.
Just like what Ford is doing with the Mondeo/Fusion.
Or what GM is doing with Buick and Opel.

It also just happens that Renault's new front end design could easily be replaced by Nissan's new front end. (Previewed by last year's Sport Sedan Concept.) Both similar shapes.

I don't know. It's just an idea.... Why not?

2016 Cadillac ATS-V

I guess we knew it was coming.

In their obsession to compete with Mercedes and BMW, Cadillac is now producing high powered V models of almost every sedan they make.
I drove a CTS-V (The cool wagon one) a while ago for a week. Sure, it was great.
The power, the 6 speed. But no one bought it.
This is another car no one will buy. A compact sedan with 450HP.

But I guess "they have to compete". Not sure anyone in the world associate Cadillac with super powerful small cars yet. Or even if they should.

As you can see, it also has the usual add ons. So now it looks more like a SEMA project than a classy car Cadillac should be known for.

And if you want a proper 6 speed manual, you can already order one with the "regular" 2.0 Liter Turbo version.
Which is probably as much fun as most  Cadillac ATS buyers would want.

I just don't see the point....

More pictures of the new Aston Martin Lagonda

Where we can finally see the lines of the car (previous pix were of a very dark car)
And I think it looks quite amazing and stunning.
I can only imagine the presence of that thing on the road.

Imagine, yes. Since it is not on sale in the US or Europe. At least for now, it is only available in the middle east.

Geely GC9

This looks pretty nice.
And I am not adding "for a Chinese car". It just looks pretty good.

This is an all new large sedan from Chinese car maker Geely.
They has been a new rumor about Geely selling cars in the US as soon as 2016.
But they have claimed the same thing since 2008...
Most of all, they are famous for owning Volvo.

Not sure where this was designed, but it looks like a nice alternative to the Toyota Avalon and similar models.
If sold here for thousands less than its competition, I thing it could have a chance. (If the quality is there that is...)
Poer comes from a 2.4 Liter with 160HP. Or a 1.8 Liter Turbo with 180HP and a 3.6 Liter V6 with 270HP. Pretty much in line with what we've got over here.

Would anyone here consider this if it was, let's say, about $5000 less than an Avalon?
What do you think?

More pictures of the Fiat 500X

Looking really nice.
I think, no matter if any of us like it or not, this will be a hit for Fiat in the US.
This is exactly what they need here to grow the brand.
Let's just hope they price it right.

Among the engines available overseas (US specs have not been announced yet), are a 140HP and 170HP versions of the 1.4 Liter Turbo.
As well as the "old" TigerShark 2.4 Liter with 187HP.
I would guess that all 3 might make it over here.
The 140HP model is FWD and available with a 6 speed auto.
While the other 2 engines are matted to 4WD and 9 speed auto.

I can't wait to see the US version soon.
This will be quite a hot segment for 2015, with the Chevrolet Trax and Honda HR-V coming soon as well.

2016 Mazda CX-5

Still no interior shot, but a better picture of the new front end.
Which actually, when you compare it to the current one, isn't that new.
It seems only the stuff within the grille has been revised. Headlights and the area where the fog lights are.
Looks like the actual bumper part is the same.

Here is the current model.

2016 Mazda CX-5

No big changes outside. But I don't think they should have done anything.
There was nothing wrong with the front end.

It seems that, across the line, they are toning down that cool chrome line that was running from one headlight to the other.
Now the new grille looks like anything else on the road.

But the main news could be inside. Since they give an all new dashboard to the 2016 Mazda 6, the older CX-5 will most certainly get similar revisions inside.
And they are needed.
As of now, it os one of the saddest interiors around.

Let's face it, the CX-5 was never as good looking or modern as the CX-7 it replaced.
But a nicer interior would go a long way...

New Audi Concept teaser.

This looks interesting.
It is claimed to be a flagship for the brand. Which means above the A8.
Yet it does look like  hatchback. (even better).

It also reminds me of a Tesla. At least from what we see here. Like a squared off Audi version of a Tesla.
I remember, a couple of years ago, hearing that Audi was working on an all electric high end car competing with Tesla.

So maybe this is it.

2016 Acura ILX

The picture on top is the revised ILX for 2016.
It does look more aggressive. With the mandatory LED headlights.
We also know that it will get a new engine with more power.

I guess Acura is making an effort to better compete with cars like the Audi A3. Which is good.

2016/17 Ford Taurus

I got a message from one of these "anonymous" people, directing me to a site called "2016 Fordcars".
Telling me this is a tip.
So here are the pictures from that site.
(Not sure where they are from, and it this is just a way to promote some new site.)

But here it is: the next Taurus. The prototypes I had seen so far still and the enlarged Fusion body as a test mule.
But this is the real thing. And it looks like it will end up being pretty slick.

So, thanks to whoever sent me the link... I guess.

2016 Mazda6

Looks like the Mazda6 will be getting a few changes for next year.

The front end is all new, and looks a bit softer. Not sure why they did this, since it looked great before.
And least it doesn't seem ruined.

Inside, the dash and console seem all new. Which isn't bad.
I always thought the small GPS screen on the current car looked pretty cheap. So now it has the pop up looking one from the other Mazda models.
The whole thing looks more angular and edgy. Kinda strange since they made the outside (at least the front end) a bit softer...

Here is the current car. So you can tell the differences.

All new Honda Grace

The new Grace is a hybrid version of the City sedan.
Which is basically a sedan version of the new Fit we have now here.
Not sure why the Hybrid version has its own name (Probably because some suit thought the name "Grace" was so great)

I've heard before about the City coming to the US as the Fit Sedan. So this hybrid version could also make it over here.

It is powered by a 1.5 Liter engine with an electric motor and a 7 speed transmission.
The whole thing is good for 135HP. Which is fine for this small sedan. (remember, it is still smaller than a Civic)
They claim it gets about 86 "US equivalent"MPG. Which would be quite amazing if true.

I think, for once, this looks better than the hatchback Fit. And could actually threaten the Civic if sold here.
I mean, the interior alone is one of the best I've seen from Honda in quite a while.
