Fisker Alaska pick-up

Looking at this picture of the upcoming Fisker Alaska Pick-up (top pic), it does seem closely related to the recently unveiled Ocean SUV. (bottom)

Which makes a lot of sense since they probably share a lot.

It also means the Alaska will not compete with other new full size pick ups from Rivian and others.
Since the Ocean is only 182.7 inches long. Just slightly longer than a Toyota Rav-4.
Which means the new Fisker pick up will compete in the mid size segment.
Like the upcoming Hyundai Vera Cruz or even the longer Honda Ridgeline. (And of course the mid sized crowd from Ford and GM)
Except, of course, the Alaska will be an EV.

Since Fisker has already announced a base price of $37 500 for the Ocean, before incentives. We can expect the pick-up version to be cheaper. At least by a few thousand dollars.
Which means, a sub- $30 000 price after various incentives.
The new Alaska could very well be priced at or under its gas competition.

If it ever comes out, that is...

New Fiat 500 Electric teaser

Fiat released this cute teaser for their new generation 500 hatchback.
Which will only be offered as an EV.
Mostly competing with the new Honda e and Mini Electric in Europe.

No news yet about possible sales in the US.

We won't have to wait long since the new car will be unveiled in a few short weeks.

All new Fiat Strada compact pick-up

As I mentioned earlier, I think this looks pretty good and there would be a market for it over here.

Sure, car makers one making huge profits on huge trucks.
But profit is profit. Even small. And I really don't think FCA would loose money by selling this Brazilian made small truck over here.

This would be perfect for pick-up fans who live in the city.

2021 Citroen C4

There is a new generation Citroen C4 around the corner. (The picture above is just an illustration)

It will replace the super cool Cactus. While at the same time, will also be anew generation of the "regular" C4 discontinued in 2018.
So it will be a C4 with Cactus styling...

I really liked the Cactus. This basically looks like a "4 door coupe" version of it.
Or a C4 hatchback on stilts.

Why not...

2021 VW Tiguan

As you can see, the 2021 version of the VW Tiguan (top photo) will not be all new.
It will be getting, mostly, a redesigned front end with headlights similar to the new 2020 Golf. And a deeper grille. because, "why not a bigger grille, everyone else is doing it..."
And of course, new tail lights and rear bumper. Not sure how new the interior will be. But judging by what they did with the 2021 Atlas, things could stay exactly the same for the Tiguan interior as well...

The 2 photos above show the European version of the Tiguan. Not the longer US version.
But changes should be similar in the US for next year.

Not sure what new engines will be offered in Europe. But the US will probably be getting the same old 2.0 Liter Turbo.
(The one that is really not refined when you slightly push it)

VW sold almost 110 000 of these last year in the US. beating the Jetta by over 9000 units.
So it is quite a hit for them.
It looks like a low price and a really roomy interior is paying off.
So, why would they spend extra money in a nicer interior and a more refined/powerful powertrain?

2021 Kia Sorento

These are the official teaser illustrations from Kia.
Showing the whole car, inside and out.
No big surprises since we have all seen it before (HERE, and HERE).

With hybrid versions available and 3 rows of seats, this should be pretty well equipped to do battle with the new Toyota highlander. And others.

2021 Fiat 500 EV Convertible

For the first time we have confirmation that the all new 2021 Fiat 500 Electric will be available as a convertible as well.
Since the regular car is a hatchback. The picture above shows the small trunk opening of the convertible version.
We should see the car soon since it is supposed to be unveiled in Europe next month.

Again, this is not the same car as the 5000 we have seen for about 10 years now. But an all new model, which will be electric only.

2021 Fiat Strada

Fiat is working on a new generation of the small Strada pick-up.
Which, as usual, will be mostly for the Brazilian market.

It does look alike  small version of the current (and larger) Toro truck.

I think it is about time for FCA to bring some of these small pick up trucks over here. Since they are already sailing them elsewhere.
It is only a matter of time until someone else does it.
The Hyundai Santa-Cruz pick up is around the corner. And I am sure others will follow.

2021 Chevrolet Tahoe pricing

The all new Chevrolet Tahoe for 2021 will start at $50 295, including transportation and fees.
Which is $1000 more than the outgoing model.
The Tahoe LT is priced at $55 095 and the Premier at $63 895. Ot $800 and $100 more than the previous generation models.

Since the new Tahoe is vastly improved, with an independent suspension. And even much roomier than its predecessor, (with 30% more cargo room)it seems like quite a good price.
It is now almost as roomy as the previous Suburban.
Speaking of which, the Suburban will be about $2 700 more than the Tahoe.

These giant SUVs are by no mean cheap. $50 000 is still a lot of money.
And these days, it is still quite a bit more than a loaded Kia Telluride.

But for those who are into them, I thing the pricing is right. They still sold over 100 000 Tahoes last year alone. (and almost 52 000 Suburbans on top of that!)

These seem to be crazy popular...

2021 VW Atlas

The VW Atlas is also getting a few changes for 2021.
The front ends is closer to the new 5 seater Atlas Sport. And why not...
Thinks look a tiny bit smoother.

In the rear, just a few small details.

And nothing looks new inside. (2021 on top) Which is where it needed to be improved the most.
Since it has always looked old and cheap in there. (Although they do mention a new steering wheel and larger screen)
But VW thought it was just fine, and not worthy of any improvement at all.

I wish them good luck with that. Competing with the Palisade/Telluride, new Highlander. A new Pathfinder is just around the corner. And many more.

2021 Chrysler Pacifica

I always liked the Chrysler Pacifica. Not only it looks really good and modern. But even with only a short test drive (in the hybrid model), I was able to tell it drives really well.

I guess, after over 3 years, Chrysler though it was time for a refresh. Which is surprising, since FCA has been starving Dodge and Chrysler of any new models in years. (probably hoping these brands would die on their own..)
So in a way, it is really good to see some FCA money going to Chrysler.

But I really think that new front end ruins what was a very since, simple and modern design.
That big chrome grille looks like a cheap after market part.
It just does not fit the rest of the design, at all. It's not like they are trying (like Lexus) to make sure all their new models have the same face, since they don't have any new models!

Why? This is a big step backward. I guess the only reason was to make the friendly looking Pacifica seem more aggressive.
Which seems to be a trend these days. Making everything look like an obnoxious truck.

But I do like the new rear end (top picture)
Which is simpler and actually flows better with the rest of the car. it almost feels like this is what it should have looked like since the beginning.

Nice job there.

Nothing really new inside. Except a more luxurious version available and a larger screen.

The big news for 2021 is the availability of AWD.
Which is a great addition to the minivan. And something that will make the Pacifica even more popular.

And, at least, the Chrysler brand can say they have something new for 2021. Even if it is not "all new".
It's a small step towards keeping Chrysler alive...

2021 Hyundai Santa Fe

You can see the Hyundai Santa Fe for 2021 (top pic) will not be all new (current one above)

This will be a mid-cycle refresh, with, among other things, an all new front end.
So far, the new lights look a bit closer to the ones in the new Palisade.
Let's hope the Santa Fe does not inherit a similar grille. As the huge one on the Palisade is quite tacky.

The Santa Fe should, for the first time, be available as  Hybrid and Plug-in hybrid versions. Which will no doubt broaden its appeal.

2021 BMW 4 series

This is it. And truly the worst case scenario.
It was previewed in the 4 Concept a while ago, and that grille got a huge amount of very negative reviews and comments.
But never mind, BMW does not care. Between that grille and the huge tacky vents on the side, this could be one of their worst design ever.

Let's really hope this turns out to be a huge flop. Something that ugly should never be rewarded with any kind of success...

2021 Cadillac Escalade interior

This is the very first official picture of the great interior of the all new
2021 Cadillac Escalade. I am currently at the launch event and will post
Many more pix and I do soon...

2021 Cadillac Escalade

Cadillac is unveiling the all new 2021 Escalade tonight at an event in Los Angeles.
but it loos like someone already took some quick pictures of the cars already on display.

It seems to be a "Sport" model. With more black trim everywhere and no chrome.
I really think there should be no "Sport" version of any Cadillac model and all Cadillacs should have chrome (But that's another matter)

The total lack of chrome really does not fit the Escalade at all. And I am sure (at least I hope) other versions will be more impressive than this.
Except for the interior, the exterior displays a very serious lack of style...

By the way, I have been invited to the event and will take many pictures and videos of the new Escalade.

2021 Genesis G80 interior

Well, not the whole interior of course.
So far we only get to see the new steering wheel and small hints of the dashboard. Which, so far, seems a bit similar to the new GV80.

It is interesting to notice that the G80 will not use the same steering wheel design as the GV80 SUV (middle pic).
Instead, it looks like the one used in the new sedan will be closer to the design used in the GV80 concept (bottom pic) a few years ago.

Chevrolet Silverado Test Drive

Last year, I test drove the 4 door version of this truck. It was a loaded "High Country" model, costing over $52 000.

This one, a "1500 2WD" starts at a much more reasonable (And more "truck like") $26 000.
Mine had a few options, like a Spray On bed liner, 4.2 Inch color screen, Trailing Equipment.
Mut mostly a $1445 "Black out edition" package. ("Big Black")
For a total of $31 400. (Including a very expensive $1195 Destination charge)
As you can see, it is big. Very big. And high, very high.

And that Black out package gives it quite a menacing look.
A look that, I must say, was quite popular among most of my friends. (especially the ladies)

The bed is really roomy, with a heavy gate (This is not for girl scouts).
The whole thing would make John Wayne look effeminate.

Inside, things are pretty simple. As expected.
Which is just fine. Everything is well put together and feels really solid.
The small screen is not the best, but again, just fine for this. It even includes a welcome back up camera.
The stereo sounded surprisingly good.
There is not much storage behind the seats. Just a small space.
The armrest folds up to reveal a 3rd middle seat. With a real seat belt!
Nothing like the ones from the 70's with the old fashion "airplane style" seat belts.

Even in this base model, the doors have a really nice finish.
The drive in this particular model is, well... Very, very truck like.
Very different than the smooth "High country" model I drove last year.
(It is also much higher)

It is quite smooth on a flat stretch of highway. But as soon as the road isn't perfect, watch out.
It is a constant mix of shaking, shuddering and jumping around. The suspension basically absorbs nothing. It can actually be quite scary at times.

The 6 transmission is super smooth and very responsive.
The big 4.3 Liter V6 works quite well in this truck. It is so quiet and smooth I thought it was a V8.
It also has enough power. And is rated at 18/24MPG.
I was only able to get about 16/17 around town. (Which is still fine)
But easily got 27 on the freeway.
Which seems really good for such a giant.

It might not be comfortable, but it sure is quiet. Amazingly quiet, at all time.
I would even say, "Lexus quiet".

After almost getting used to the super rough ride, I really enjoyed my week with the big truck.

Sure, I have zero need for this.
But this is a really nice vehicle for people who need a truck.
It is not that expensive. It feels like it will last forever. Mileage isn't that bad.
The back up camera helps a lot with parking (Although I still couldn't fit in any Trader Joe's parking lots around my area...)
So why not?

And. As you can see. This is the best place to have a picnic under the stars with a good friend...
