Mazda's new EV Interior Teaser Video

Just a few seconds and very quick shots of the interior. but it already looks like a new design direction for Mazda. Which is a good thing.
Although all their cars look quite nice, it has been a while since we have seen something looking really new from them.
That console doesn't look like anything they've done so far.
And I also applaud this new "cloth trend". Instead of cheap leather everywhere these days.

This looks similar to what we have seen in the Volvo Polstar 2 and Audi E-Tron GT Concept last year.
And IMO, it always looks great.

I actually cannot wait to see this new Mazda EV Crossover. It should be competing with the Hyundai Kona EV in the US. And the upcoming Chevrolet "Bolt based" Crossover.

2017 Mazda3

Just a few changes for the new year.

And in true Mazda fashion, they didn't ruin anything. At all.
Which is great, since the Mazda3 is still, in my opinion, the best looking compact hatchback out there.
Inside it now gets the same steering wheel as the CX-9.
Which is just fine.
Otherwise it gets an LED headlights option.
Redesigned center console with electronic handbrake.
The whole thing is also supposed to be bait quieter than before.

But mostly, it is now available with Mazda's all new G-Vectoring Control.
So there....

2017 Mazda CX-4

Finally, official pictures.
And it does look great!

A pretty amazing design. I mean just look at it.
Inside too!

This seems to be the best rendition of Mazda's new design theme.
The interior isn't as fantastic as the new CX-9, but it's also much less expensive.
And, it is way better than the poor CX-5 it is based on.
A slightly raised up super good looking wagon like this would be super popular in the US.

It is powered by Mazda's usual 2.0 Liter and 2.5 Liter engines.

Mazda is still saying this is only for the Chinese market.
Which would be the worst marketing move of all times.

I bet we will see this in the US sooner than later.

2017 Mazda CX-4

More picture of the all new CX-4.
Basically, a sportier alternative to the CX-5.

Outside, there seems to be a bit of camouflage left on the chrome window surrounding.
Wheels are quite small, so this could also be a base model.

Inside, it does look really good. In line with recent Mazda designs.

So far, they claim China is the target market for this.
But I wouldn't surprised if it ends up in the US.

Let's hope...

Mazda CX-4

This is pretty interesting.
Basically a production version of last year's great looking Koeru concept.

It is smaller than the CX-5 for a bit larger and sportier than the CX-3. And, unlike BMW's X4 and X6 series, which end up looking bloated , this looks very nice.

So far, people at Mazda are describing it as something for people who want more than a Mazda3 hatch. But not quite an SUV, like the CX-3 or 5.

I think this might turn out to be a good idea.
Something sportier than the rather blocky CX-5.

Looking at the Koeru concept, the "toning down for production" is pretty obvious.
Windows are taller, the front end isn't as aggressive. (Lights especially)
Everything is a bit softer in the production model.

But so far, Mazda has been showing us great production cars.
This one shouldn't be different...

All new Toyota Yaris sedan

No, this isn't the Scion iA.
And it isn't the Mazda2 sedan either...

It is Toyota's new idea of selling the iA in Canada. So they just renamed it "Yaris Sedan".
Since it is still a Mazda2 with an ugly front end, it actually has nothing to do with the regular Yaris hatchback. Nothing, except the name.

Why not, I guess...

Mazda Koeru = Mazda CX-6/7?

Mazda just announced there will be a production version of the really good looking Koeru concept.
Which, we already knew, since these spy shots have been around for a while.

As you can see, It'll stay really close to the concept.
Mazda is aiming right at the Subaru Outback with this one. Someone for people who aren't that crazy about SUVs. People who prefer something lower, something more like a wagon.

As you can see here, they already have that. The Mazda 6 Wagon.
They could have jacked it up a bit. Just like the Outback is a jacked up Legacy wagon.

I guess they won't.

And why not. That Koeru looked really nice too. So we might not be missing the Mazda 6 wagon anymore...

AutoShow Quick note: Mazda VS. Fiat

I must be in the minority, but I do like the Fiat version better than the Miata.
I was a big fan of the previous version Miata. (Test drove it twice)

But I cannot warm up to the current (more aggressive) design.
So I do like the Fiat "clone" better. (except when compared to the still stunning 1966 original Pininfarina design)
It does have a different design, and the front is a bit longer.
Which I like.

The interior is exactly the same. But you can order this brown color. (I think the Miata now comes in black only. Except for that limited "launch edition")

It was also really fun watching all the long/boring PR BS introducing the car. And its "Italian heart".
The whole thing was about being Italian etc... Never, of course, mentioning the Mazda link. Ever.

It should also end up being the most reliable Fiat ever made. (Since it is built in Japan alongside the Miata).
Another plus...

What do you think?

AutoShow Quick notes: Doors.

Jaguar XF sedan. Boring outside, boring inside.
Doesn't look or feel like a Jaguar. This interior door design is as blocky/uninspired as they get.

 Meanwhile, inside the Mazda CX-9...

All new Mazda CX-9: the surprise

I have always been a fan of the current model.
And from the pictures, this all new one looked quite similar, which is fine.

But in real life, the whole thing looks much more muscular and refined.
(A Mazda rep told me they are moving it up the scale)

And the interior is downright luxurious.
Not only it is better than any to its competition.
But better than some luxury brands. The whole thing looks and feels more upscale than the $56 000 Audi Q7. (which I must say, is even worse in real life....)

Another great job from Mazda!

All new 2016 Mazda CX-9

Very early pictures.
But these are the first shots of the redesigned CX-9.

Looking, of course, really good. But I must say, not a giant leap compared to the still great looking current model.
Inside, it seems more inspired by the Mazda6 than the CX-5. (Thank God)

Much more very soon. And I will be seeing it for myself in a couple of days.

2017 Fiat 124 VS. 2016 Mazda Miata

Just though I would try to compare the two.
From these pix we have all seen these last couple of days.

At first (from grainy phone pix, I know) , they do seem quite different.
The hood of the Fiat seems quite a bit longer, taller.  Which I personally like.
So does the trunk. There might be a new crease line running along the side (Hard to see, but it could be an attempt to match the original design)

I haven't been a big fan of the new Miata, so the Fiat does look better to me.
I also really like the silver finish around the windshield.

But inside... It's just too bad. Both cars look exactly the same.
I mean, the new Miata does have a really nice interior. But I really wish Fiat had spent just a little bit of money to make their model  more special. Come on....

Here is the original convertible version of the old Fiat 124.
The Pininfarina design still looks fantastic.

You can see the new one is just a Miata trying very hard to look a little bit like this.
Maybe it'll work.
(We'll definitely have to wait for better pictures)

What do you think?
(You can take the poll on the top left of this page.)
