All new Fisker Ocean EV

We finally get to see more of the all new Fisker Electric SUV.
Now officially called "Ocean".

No pricing  yet. But Fisker has said it will be much cheaper than the $700 "care by Volvo" lease on the new Volvo XC40 Electric. With a longer EV range.
A while ago, pricing was rumored to start at around $40 000. Not sure if that is still the case, or if this will be a "lease only" offering.

As for specs, the base model should be getting an EV range of 250 to 300 miles.
The solar roof is said to add about 1000 miles of range a year. Which actually seems a bit ridiculous.
But at least, it seems to be clear and you can actually see through it. (Unlike the one in the Karma)

This could be quite interesting. If it really happens...

Mazda's new EV Interior Teaser Video

Just a few seconds and very quick shots of the interior. but it already looks like a new design direction for Mazda. Which is a good thing.
Although all their cars look quite nice, it has been a while since we have seen something looking really new from them.
That console doesn't look like anything they've done so far.
And I also applaud this new "cloth trend". Instead of cheap leather everywhere these days.

This looks similar to what we have seen in the Volvo Polstar 2 and Audi E-Tron GT Concept last year.
And IMO, it always looks great.

I actually cannot wait to see this new Mazda EV Crossover. It should be competing with the Hyundai Kona EV in the US. And the upcoming Chevrolet "Bolt based" Crossover.

2020 Volvo XC40 Recharge

Volvo has chosen a very subtle look for its first EV model. Just like the Hyundai Kona, the main visual difference between the gas and electric model is the lack of a proper grille.
Otherwise, this new "Recharge" version looks the same as the regular XC40.
Just a bit cleaner up front, which is always good.
Same thing inside, where the interior is carried over from the gas models.

Volvo claims a range of "at least 249 Miles" (400km). With 408HP.
That all sounds pretty good.

The new EV is just the first of many. Since "recharge" will actually be a whole lineup.
Volvo plans to launch a fully electric model every year for the next 5 years.
Apparently, the "recharge" name will also be used for plug-in versions.
Which means there will be a "Recharge" version of every model they make.

No pricing yet. The regular XC40 starts at around $34 000.
I would imagine the Recharge model to be at least $10 000 more.
That would be in the same range as the BMW i3 in the US.

2021 VW ID.4

While we are not getting the cute ID.3 hatchback in the US, VW will be selling us the upcoming ID.4 Crossover.
Which will be slightly larger than the ID. And based on the exact same platform.

The photo on top is a pretty realistic illustration of what to expect.
Since it matches very closely the covered car VW showed at the Frankfurt Auto show a few weeks ago (middle pic) and prototypes of the real things (bottom)

At least, this is already looking pretty nice and really modern. Something VWs have not been for a long time.
And much nicer than the Tiguan or Atlas.

The main problem for VW will be to convince US buyers to trust them.
Not only because of the obvious Dieselgate nightmare. But also due to decades of poor reliability ratings.
Due mostly too...electrical/electronic problems.

New Honda Avancier

That's right. Another SUV/Crossover thing from Honda.
Another ugly one.

At least the part where it says "for the Chinese market only" is good news.

The Avancier is a 5 seater that will be priced above the CR-V.
Powered by a new 2.0 Liter Turbo engine. Which will probably find its way under the hood of the next Accord.

There is nothing like this in the US lineup. Where Honda jumps from the CR-V to the 7/8 seater Pilot.
Nissan has the Murano while Toyota offers a 5 seater version of the Highlander.

This looks like a mash up of a bunch of designs from a few other manufacturers.
It has zero personality of its own.
It is so bad it's almost weird...

If the name sounds familiar, it is because Honda did produce a car named Avancier before.
It was a tall wagon based on the Japanese Accord and sold over there from 1999 to 2003.
A bit boring, but not ugly like this poor guy above.

Now, let us all get on our knees and pray for this thing to never make it to the US market.
Please....

2017 Mazda CX-4

Finally, official pictures.
And it does look great!

A pretty amazing design. I mean just look at it.
Inside too!

This seems to be the best rendition of Mazda's new design theme.
The interior isn't as fantastic as the new CX-9, but it's also much less expensive.
And, it is way better than the poor CX-5 it is based on.
A slightly raised up super good looking wagon like this would be super popular in the US.

It is powered by Mazda's usual 2.0 Liter and 2.5 Liter engines.

Mazda is still saying this is only for the Chinese market.
Which would be the worst marketing move of all times.

I bet we will see this in the US sooner than later.

2017 Chrysler Pacifica

Yes, we've all see this before.
But after posting stuff about ugly cars, I thought it would be nice to see something good looking, for a change.
I just saw these pictures of the new Pacifica Minivan I hadn't seen before. So I thought I'd post them.

This looks better and better to me. I wasn't crazy about it at first (Maybe I was expecting too much)
But this looks like the most stylish choice in its segment.
Good for them.

It's too bad Chrysler is still a company in turmoil. With crazy/greedy Sergio trying to merge or sell off to another company.
Publicly announcing the death of the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200 and then be surprised when sale numbers hit the floor.
(His decision to publicly criticize the 200's design and killing it early just cost 500 jobs, by the way)

And, there is still zero new Dodge models on the horizon. And not much else for Chrysler for that matter (How old is the 300 now?)
Everything is going to Jeep...

But for now, let's forget about that dummy and enjoy the nice work of some good designers...

2017 Buick Envision price

The first Buick imported from China isn't cheap!

For now, 2 models will be available.
Priced at $43 000 and $45 600.
They all get GM's 2.0 Liter Turbo with a 6 speed auto (Not even the newest/better 8 speed)

They both come pretty loaded, although the big sunroof is still an option on both (?)
Apparently, a couple of cheaper models will be available at the end of the year. (weird...)

At $43 000, it's obvious the benefits of cheaper labor cost in China have NOT been passed  on to the consumer!

Let's compare to he competition. With other "pretty loaded" models:

-An Audi Q5 with Premium package is $43 700. (And that includes a sunroof)
-A Mercedes with a couple of packages is $45 000.
-The new and much better looking Lincoln MKX "Reserve"is $46 300.

We'll see if the Envision turns out to be popular in the US.
I am sure "made in China" will never ever be mentioned. So customers will have no idea.
And basically, anything that is raised up and has a hatch in the back sells these days...

But to me, this looks pretty boring already. It really has no personality.
I mean it's not "Acura ugly" or "Lexus weird". Just blah.
And that interior is borderline vulgar (At least in pictures)

I sat a few times in the Lincoln MKX and was really, really impressed.
I think this would be my choice if I needed something like that.

All new 2017 Acura CDX

As you can see, this one is also for the Chinese market.

It seems Honda has been making a push for Acura in China lately.
Trying to compete with European brands like Audi, BMW, Mercedes. But also Buick and PSA's DS brand.
So they are basically coming out with Acura versions of everything Honda makes.

This is supposedly based on the Honda HR-V.
Although it looks closer to the next generation CR-V.
(You can see some CR-V spy shots HERE)

It is rumored to be powered by a 1.5 Liter Turbo. Which sounds similar to the current Civic.
And, again, what the next CR-V might be getting.

An HR-V based model sound pretty small for a luxury brand.
(Although I guess it would compete with the all new Audi Q2.)
It seems a CR-V based one would attract a larger audience. Competing with a bunch of other crossovers from Audi, Mercedes, BMW and more.
Plus, the size would fit better the US market.
It would really compete with the Lexus NX over here.

Whatever it is, it does look pretty boring.
And really, is that new grille an improvement over the old shield?
I don't think so.
It has a weird cheap 80's look to me.

Acura is another brand that needs to stand out a bit. And they don't. Year after year getting lost in the shuffle. Coming up with one invisible car after another.
Look at the Mercedes GLA.
A truly modern looking crossover from a luxury brand. It looks like nothing else yet sells like hotcakes!

Acura does need more. And it all starts with great designs.

Another day, another VW concept....

VW can't seem to be able to come out with new models, but they sure can introduce plenty of concepts...
So here is yet another one. For the Beijing auto show.
Another SUV/Crossover concept. While they still have not introduced the production version of the 2013 Crossblue Concept. And the new Tiguan is still over a year away for the US market.

A company ran by hamsters....

2017 Buick Encore

Since we saw it's European Opel clone a few weeks ago, there are no surprises here.
As predicted, it is an Opel Mokka with a Buick grille.
Which is just fine.

The new interior is a big improvement. It makes the old one look quite cartoony.

As for the engine, I am not sure what's new.
Here is the official PR:
" A unique 1.4 L Turbo with direct injection, more power, more torque and stop/start technology is available on most trims"

So I guess there is more power?
And MPG must be improved with stop/start.

They sold over 67 000 of these last year. Which is pretty good.
While Nissan sold a bit over 27 000 Jukes.
(The Juke's best year was 2014 with just 38 184 units)

This revised and even more attractive one should do quite well.

Audi Q2 on the road.

Looking... cute.

Actually a surprising design for Audi. I think.
As it does have a few original lines here and there.
So maybe the next Q5 won't be as much of a disaster as the Q7?

Too bad (Or too late) for the new A5. Which, on all spy shots, already looks as boring/terrible as the new A4...

2017 Mazda CX-4

More picture of the all new CX-4.
Basically, a sportier alternative to the CX-5.

Outside, there seems to be a bit of camouflage left on the chrome window surrounding.
Wheels are quite small, so this could also be a base model.

Inside, it does look really good. In line with recent Mazda designs.

So far, they claim China is the target market for this.
But I wouldn't surprised if it ends up in the US.

Let's hope...

Upcoming Genesis SUV

I know this is NOT a good picture.
(This was sent to me from Europe and I am trying to get a better version of it.)

Hyundai has mentioned a couple of SUVs for the all new Genesis brand.
One full size and a mid size one.
On top of the new G80 sedan (A face lifted Hyundai genesis), a new coupe and an all new RWD compact sedan.
It all sounds pretty good.

I cannot tell if this is supposed to be the big SUV or the smaller one...(looks like it says XG something...)

We should see the real thing sooner than letter, since the large luxury SUV market is much more lucrative than the large luxury sedan market.
Jus ask Cadillac...

2017 Mazda CX-4

Remember that all new SUV based on the Koeru concept from last year?
The one that has been spied many times in China.
Looking really good too.

Well, it will mostly stay in China. As it will not be sold in Europe.
No news about the US yet. But Mazda would be crazy not to bring this over here.

Ss for the name. Some people thought it was going to be called the CX-6.
Well, no. Here is the proof. It will be the CX-4.

Which means it could be cheaper than the CX-5. A good deal!

2017 Audi Q2

This looks really nice!
Actually surprising from Audi. It doesn't look like a clone of the other ones.
And much, much better than the aging Q3.
So yes, there is hope in the world!

Not sure, but it doesn't look that much shorter than the Q3 either.

And also not sure if we'll see this in the US or not....
But it goes on sale in Europe this fall.

2017 Toyota C-HR

After a few years of showing us cool concepts (even one as a Scion), Toyota is finally showing the production version of the small C-HR SUV/crossover thingy.

Of course, development of this started back when the Nissan Juke was the only game in town. And it shows.
Since, we now have more more tasteful design available in that segment. Like the Fiat 500X, Honda HR-V or Mazda CX3.

So I think this will still be mainly a Juke competitor.
The main attraction here will be the Hybrid power train.
It is smaller than the all new Kia Niro, but could still compete against it.

I guess it might use the power train from the tiny Prius C. Or an updated version of it.
It might actually be killing the Prius C. Since Toyota has been saying they don't see much future for a whole Prius family anymore.
And the new Hybrid version of the Rav4 could very well replace the Prius V.

Here is what it looks like ext to the 2 previous concepts versions.

Even without the big wheels, it's been toned down. Way down...
It looks quite heavy and clumsy now...
