Mazda's new EV Interior Teaser Video

Just a few seconds and very quick shots of the interior. but it already looks like a new design direction for Mazda. Which is a good thing.
Although all their cars look quite nice, it has been a while since we have seen something looking really new from them.
That console doesn't look like anything they've done so far.
And I also applaud this new "cloth trend". Instead of cheap leather everywhere these days.

This looks similar to what we have seen in the Volvo Polstar 2 and Audi E-Tron GT Concept last year.
And IMO, it always looks great.

I actually cannot wait to see this new Mazda EV Crossover. It should be competing with the Hyundai Kona EV in the US. And the upcoming Chevrolet "Bolt based" Crossover.

Cadillac Escala Concept

I think this is pretty surprising. ( at least to me.)
Not sure what I expected for Cadillac's new concept....

But after looking at these pictures for a while, I do like it a lot.
I think the front end is a great, more subtle design for future Cadillacs. The rear lights are 1000 times better and classier than anything they are doing now (That poor CT6 rear end...)

And, surprise, it's even a hatchback!

I think a hatchback is a great idea. Since people are now so used to them in SUVs. It might be a great way to get people back into sedans (at least some)

The interior is also much nicer than any of their production models. And quite a bit retro.

It uses the same platform as the CT6, but is 6 inches longer.

And the concept is powered by a 4.2 Liter Twin Turbo V8. Yes, a V8!
GM calls it "a prototype of a new system in development for future Cadillac models".
Which sounds like "Next Escalade engine", or "Upcoming option for the CT6" to me.

But.... We've been had before. Cadillac had great concepts with the Ciel and Elmiraj.
All we got after that was the CT6. Which is a huge let down.
So, let's hope a lot of this designs ends up in the next ATS sedan (CT3?)
Since it seems to be the next sedan inline for a redesign. Before the next CTS.

Meanwhile, we will see an all new compact SUV and a larger one based on the next Buick Enclave.
So maybe these guys will have some "Escala touches" as well.

But this, basically, should have been the CT6.
I mean, just imagine...

2018 Kia GT

Kia has been testing a production version (top) of the 2011 GT Concept (bottom)for a while.
As you can see, it looks fine and pretty much ready to go.

And, pretty close to the concept.
But it's been 5 years. Five-years....

So nothing futuristic here.

Seems like it could be based on the Hyundai Genesis sedan. Which will be rebadged the
Genesis G80 or G70 very soon.

Which I guess would then , be... competing with Genesis.
These guys don't really seem to have a clear separate path for both brands.
Kia and Hyundai.
Looks like Kia now competes with both Hyundai and Genesis.

The good part is, it will probably be yet another really nice design from Kia.
So I really can't wait to see the final model.

Another day, another VW concept....

VW can't seem to be able to come out with new models, but they sure can introduce plenty of concepts...
So here is yet another one. For the Beijing auto show.
Another SUV/Crossover concept. While they still have not introduced the production version of the 2013 Crossblue Concept. And the new Tiguan is still over a year away for the US market.

A company ran by hamsters....

New Genesis Concept coming up.

Hyundai will show a concept version of their "3 series fighter" at the New York auto show in a few days.
No doubt it will look nice.
Since they usually have great looking concepts (Like that super good looking Coupe a few months ago)
Unfortunately, they also have a history of turning these concepts into super boring/uninspired production models.
I guess that coupe concept was supposed to be a preview of the new G90/Equus. And look what happened there...

So we can only hope...

As I mentioned before, they will first rebadge the existing Hyundai Genesis sedan as the G80 for the new luxury brand.

Opel GT Concept

From the teaser video we saw just a few days ago, I was expecting "Opel is reinventing itself". And "don't miss what happens next".
Well, that GT Concept is not happening next, I can tell you that much.

There are some interesting things here, for sure. Like the colored windows on the outside, the way the door opens .
But red tires? Really? And that grille where there shouldn't be one.

This is pretty disappointing. Not because it is not a cool design. But because it's pretty much a goofball of a car. Something we will never ever see.
And I can't really imagine this inspiring any future models for Opel.

Acura Precision Concept

Acura will be showing this all new sedan concept at the Detroit Auto Show this year.

They say it " shows the styling and proportions of the next generation of Acura sedans".
But the only sedan model they have scheduled (or should be) for a new design would be the RLX.
That big super boring Legend replacement.
(The one nobody knows it's still around.)

So this could be a preview. As their other models are still too new. Except the ILX usually follows the Civic by a year or so. But this looks larger.

And please, (while you're t it), bring back the name "Legend".
And "Integra" a year after that.

Right?

BMW 1 series

As you can see, the upcoming small 1 series sedan will stay pretty close to the "Compact Sedan Concept" we saw just a few weeks ago.
Which is fine.

It will compete with the boring A3 and the "almost weird" CLA.
So this might fit right in between.

Being based on the same platform as the new Mini Clubman, it could every well be using the same engines. Which are the 1.5 and 2.0 Liter.

This could be interesting. And no doubt, really popular...

Mazda Koeru = Mazda CX-6/7?

Mazda just announced there will be a production version of the really good looking Koeru concept.
Which, we already knew, since these spy shots have been around for a while.

As you can see, It'll stay really close to the concept.
Mazda is aiming right at the Subaru Outback with this one. Someone for people who aren't that crazy about SUVs. People who prefer something lower, something more like a wagon.

As you can see here, they already have that. The Mazda 6 Wagon.
They could have jacked it up a bit. Just like the Outback is a jacked up Legacy wagon.

I guess they won't.

And why not. That Koeru looked really nice too. So we might not be missing the Mazda 6 wagon anymore...

2017 Subaru Impreza Sedan

So, there was yet another Impreza Concept at the autoshow last week. ( You can still see it in L.A)
And now, we can see a prototype of the real thing.
And, as usual, it is quite a let down. As you can see.

Now when you compare it to the current one (above), it even doesn't seem that modern either...
I mean sure, it is better. But we are taking about 2017 here.

And by the way, this is the "old" 2010 Impreza concept.
Which still looks a million times better than the production car.
But also, to me, still looks more modern than this week's concept.

BMW Compact Sedan Concept

They're not calling it the 1series sedan, but that's pretty much what it is.
We all know by now that a new 1 series hatch is due out pretty soon. Based on the same platform as the Mini and BMW Active Tourer.
And a new sedan style will be added to the lineup (After years of rumors). So they can finally sell it in the US.
(Where, you know, we apparently don't like hatchbacks...)

It looks cute. Exactly like it is supposed to be. A smaller 3 series.
Just like the Audi A3 looks like a small A4.
Even inside, once you get past the crazy "Show car bits and lights", it's pretty much the same but smaller.
So it'll work. People want their BMWs. And it they can get one for less money, they will.
And, being FWD, it might actually be about as roomy as the 3 series.
This is the real thing testing in Europe.
Which looks pretty much the same as the concept.

Lexus LF-FC Concept

This is supposed to preview the next LS sedan.

It does look quite nice. Even with that (bigger than ever) giant mouth.
Or maybe I am getting used to it after all these years...

It actually is trying. Attempting to give a big sedan design some personality.
Unlike the 7 series. Or the A8 (And just wait for the "even more boring" next A8...)

We'll have to wait and see how much of this ends up in the actual car.

Lexus Luxury Concept

Lexus will have a concept version of the next LS sedan at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Show.

Which should be quite interesting. The big Lexus sedan is what started the brand in the US.
Not it faces competition from new comers to the segment, like Kia and Hyundai.
So this better be attractive...

But unlike Honda or Mazda, Toyota/Luxus concepts usually have little to do with what the production version will actually look like.
There seems to always be something missing in the translation.
That little something that ruins everything....

Subaru Impreza Concept

 Another Impreza Concept.
Again, let's hope this actually becomes the next Impreza.

At leas the sketches look great. We will see the actual concept dry soon, and it probably will look great as well.

So gain, there is hope for the Impreza. But we've been fooled before...
This is what they showed us right before the current Impreza came out.
A concept that really looked production ready. So much so that pretty much everyone expected the production car to look almost exactly the same.
We got this instead.

With enough changes to make it one of the lamest offering in its segment.
So sad.

Last year, Hyundai sold about 3 times as many Elantras.
( I am not even mentioning he best sellers like the Civic and Corolla)

A great design like the one pictured in the sketches above (or even something close) would really help Subaru.
Right?

Subaru Viziv Future Concept

Let's hope this becomes something.
Unlike most Subaru's past concepts. That were all really good looking, and became nothing.

I mean, look at their current line up. It ranges from boring to ugly.

They have been doing really well in the US lately, and they do make really good cars.
But they really need to have more appealing and modern designs. Not many people think of Subaru when they want a Camry or an Accord.
Subaru is for people who want something different. And that shouldn't mean "ugly".

The concept pictured here looks great. And ready for production!
Add 2 more doors and turn it into the next Forrester!

Andi e-tron quattro Concept

So this is supposed to be the Tesla Model X fighter we've been hearing about.

But, this is only a concept. And it looks like one.
I really don't think Audi has the guts to actually produce something like this.
It makes the new Q7 looks even crappier than it is already.

The stuff they actually produce is the new "looking 99% like the old one" A4 and the pathetic new Q7. Wich looks like a wagon from the late 80's.
Nothing like this.

The good news is the powertrain. The battery pack allows for a range of over 310 miles.
With a charing time of 50 minutes from a special charging column.
This is getting really good. And better than Tesla.

If the production model actually looked close to this, it would kill the Model X.
The Tesla looks goofy and almost stupid. And the "falcon" doors are a showy gimmick.
Something like this would really steal sales.
And, being an Audi, the interior equality would also be miles ahead of the Tesla.

But.... I really don't think we will see anything close to this concept in the streets anytime soon...

Hyundai Vision G Concept Coupe

Besides the stupid name, this is actually quite stunning.
And quite amazing for a Hyundai.
I think this is the 1st Hyundai design that truly looks like a luxury model to me.
It even has a British car feel to it. Almost old fashion.
Quite surprising.

There was a rumor last year about the next Genesis coupe becoming more of a luxury coupe.
This would definitely fit the bill.
Except that Hyundai concepts have never, ever become production designs.
They have been teasing us with great concepts for years.

Let's hope it changes with next years all new Genesis Coupe.
