2023 Ford Explorer: new photos…

Last Updated:

Thus is what Ford is doing to the Explorer these days. But so far, only in China.
And I have to say, let’s hot it stays there.
I’ve never been a fan of the current Explorer’s interior, with that goofy-looking vertical screen. But the new interior seems like a nightmare. With the double screen in front of the passenger instead of the driver.
I know these crazy screens are quite a trend in China. And Jeep is starting to bring passenger screens too. As is Mercedes.
But the whole thing across just stuck on top of the dash looks ridiculous. On top of being very distracting in the first place.
The front end seems equally horrible And doesn’t seem to fit the rest of the design at all.
To me, the current design looks much better.
The new rear end seems a bit better. Actually has a bit more personality than the current very bland one.
Again, let’s hope these changes don’t come over here. Ford can do much better with the Explorer…

  1. I’m mixed on the exterior because it’s overstyled but still more than the very ugly North American model. The interior of this model is busy but still better realized and more upscale looking than the NA model even without the giant screen.

  2. Ok.

Ford’s screen sizes are really getting out of hand! Interior quality definitely looks like a step or two up.

The only angle I like on the outside is the rear. They did a good job there. The front just doesn’t work for me.

  3. Not sure how I feel about the new exterior styling, however the interior looks way more premium and cohesive. I like those changes.

  4. I prefer the new exterior updates…. Ford has quietly been downsizing the overall size of the Explorer over the last 5-6 yrs. I think it looks good. Now, the interior is very non-US. I get that they need to compete for the Chinese market. I drove the prior gen for years at work. And that interior was terrible.

  5. And when is Ford going to redesign the greenhouse of the Explorer? I can list 17 SUVs with slanted C Pillars besides the Mercedes M and Chevy Equinox.
