2023 Kia Sportage: official photos…

Last Updated:

Kia has just unveiled the US  version of the all-new generation 2023 Sportage. Nothing really “new” since it has been around in other parts of the world for a few months now…
The new generation is over 7 inches longer than the current model. Which is quite a big change since it is now a bit larger than a RAV-4 or CR-V.
Way too many versions will be available and will probably make the buying experience too confusing.
We are talking about:
– LX
– EX
– SX
– SX Prestige
– X-Line
– X-Pro
– X-Pro Prestige.
This is crazy. They really need to simplify things the way Honda has always done it. For now, only the 2.5 Liter with 187HP is available. Unlike its cousin, the Hyundai Tucson.
(Turbo and Hybrid models will come later)
The design is pretty striking. But also getting quite busy and almost weird. The interior seems pretty clean. All versions come with the same screens. But the floor doesn’t seem to fold flat.
The new Kia Sportage will be on sale in the US in early 2022.

  1. I really wish that Kia would get rid of that archaic looking shifter handle. It cheapens the interior of the K5, Sportage, and Stinger imo. Other markets get much better.

  2. The model line up is less confusing if you remember that it's basically a 2 track system: on road and off road trims.

  3. I hate that it lost the distinctive greenhouse of the last two generations, but it seems like it can now be a class leader in size and capability if not style.

  4. I'll never understand why some SUVs make the liftgate part of the rear bumper. One tiny ding is an expensive repair. Actually, all exterior parts are becoming cost nightmares in accidents or even merely tapping with a shopping cart. I often wonder why people love what is essentially a minivan without sliding side doors. Being a child of 60s and 70s, giant station wagons are nothing new but for the name and height. That aside, this SUV is over-styled and gaudy. Interior is rather nice, though.

Now, get off my lawn. 😉

  5. Way too much. The front and rear are way too busy. The rear shinny plastic on the rear is so cheap looking.
The worst part IMO, is the anemic engine paired with that awful tranny, same a the one used on the new Hyundai Tucson. I test drove the Tucson about 2 months ago and the tranny felt confused at times.
The new Nissan Rogue, in my opinion is nice, but what a piece of crap the powertrain is, awful. I don't get it with these automakers, no innovation or just cheap on staying on top of their engines.
I also owned a 2020 Subaru Forester, beautiful design and really safe, but that anemic engine is awful. Even worse if used on places like Colorado (High Altitude). SUBARU, just use the same engine used in Japan already (1.8 Turbo).

I'm getting the2022 Honda CRV (last year design) in the next day or two, reliable with a decent powertrain. And the resale value is decent too.

I think Kia/Hyundai come along way but their products depreciate more than a Toyota or a Honda.

The interior on this new Kia Sportage is nicer than the Rav4 and the CRV. A new small turbo engine would have been perfect.
