Volvo Recharge Concept: Volvo's EV future...

The all-new Recharge concept is showing us Volvo's new design language. Basically, the next XC90 could be a production version of this. With, of course, plenty of changes in the translation.

Which is fine. The concept has a very pure and modern design. And a toned-down production version could still look great. And much more like a wagon than their current SUVs.

The next-generation XC90 will be unveiled next year, and we'll see how close it looks to this. It makes you wonder if there will be any room for any sedan in Volvo's new lineup of EVs...

2022/23 Lexus EV: new illustration...

The top image is an illustration of what the new Lexus EV could look like. It will almost certainly be based on the Toyota one (bottom pic)
So expect similar proportions.
I think the illustration looks really good and modern. Although the spy shot (middle) of the real thing does look more angular. And all that camo is trying very hard to make it look really ugly.

So things can only improve from what we see.

2022 Subaru WRX: 1st teaser...

From this teaser, it seems the next generation 2022 Subaru WRX might actually be about 5 to 10% better looking than the current model.
Which is a big deal for Subaru. Who really doesn't care about design. The back now looks a bit like the previous-generation Corolla.

As far as the WRX is concerned, it seems buyers don't care how it looks like anyway. As long as it goes fast. And it will.
The STI version is even expected to get around 400HP.

I personally knew someone who drove a WRX. A couple of years ago, he missed a turn in the Angeles Crest Forest (A famous "driving fast" road around here) and plunged to his death.
These things are quite a handful to drive. And can be quite dangerous. Most people I see driving them cannot really handle them. Even if they think they can.

Since super fast accelerating EVs appeared, it seems almost everyone is now expecting crazy fast cars.
Automotive writers routinely bash cars for being too slow.  Which is not a good trend at all. 99% of drivers cannot really handle a car that does 0 to 60 under 4 seconds.
And most of us don't need or even want that.

2022/23 BMW X8: new illustration...

Although the illustration above seems pretty crude, it actually looks pretty close to the spy shots we have seen of this new BMW X8 monster.
Although I suspect the grille could be even larger...

It seems to be quite a challenge these days for BMW to come up with something that doesn't look horrific.

New Toyota Land Cruiser: GR-Sport version...

I am not a fan of "blacked out" versions of big trucks. But I think this new GR-Sport trim of the new 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser looks really good. Still not a fan of black wheels, but that special grille looks pretty cool. With that big Toyota name on it.
I really think this could compete well with the Tahoe over here. But Toyota doesn't think so...

Maybe they have a new Sequoia coming our way instead?

2023 Hyundai Palisade: new illustration...

This looks like it does match what we've seen on the recent spy shots. (HERE)

Which means fancy lights from the Tucson, and a bit less chrome. Let's hope the real thing tones down the chrome even more. I also wonder what they have in mind for the Kia Telluride. The front end is about as good as it gets right now. I cannot imagine them updating it...

(Thanks to a reader for this)

2022 Ford Evos: out and about...

I know Ford has already said the new 2022 Evos isn't coming to the US. But it's really too bad.
Years ago, they also said the ranger wasn't coming to the US. And the Ecosport wasn't for us either.
So who really knows...

If they see a way to make some money from it, they'll sell it to us.
I think they should, and offer it as a standard plug-in Hybrid. Something different.
Even though the front end is super busy, the overall look seems pretty nice for some reason.

Also nice to see a fastback design that is actually a hatchback for once...

2022/23 Lexus UC: no way...

It seems everyone is talking about these spy shots showing a Lexus version of the new Toyota GR86.

I don't think these are real, and I don't think Lexus is planning such a car. With less than 2500 units sold last year, I was already surprised to even see the 2nd generation. For both Toyota and Subaru.
With so few units sold, it would be ridiculous to add a 3rd model

Also, Toyota has always been very careful to give all Lexus models their own designs and interiors. Even if they are based on Toyota platforms and use similar powertrains. No Lexus model has just been a Toyota with a Lexus grille. Like the spy shots above are showing.

These spy shots are either a joke or a test mule. Maybe for an upcoming Lexus model using that platform. (Which would actually explain why they did produce a 2ng generation) Or just a different version of the Toyota/Subaru models. With camouflage making it look like a Lexus.

The newest rumor is about the powertrain, which would be a hybrid using the 2.5 Liter from the Toyota/Subaru versions. That does make sense for a Lexus coupe. A hybrid with more power.
But that also could be an upgrade/option for the Toyota/Subaru.

Still, I am not sure why Lexus would be spending money on a new coupe, since they only sold about 3800 units of their current coupe, the RC, last year.

2023 Hyundai Palisade: some changes already...

New lights and new wheels are pretty much all we can see of the revised 2023 Hyundai Palisade on these pix.
Let's hope there's more Like a toned-down grille. Without the huge lipstick chrome surrounding. Otherwise, the Palisade does look quite nice.

Better integration of the screen would be a welcome change inside too. Since all newer, Hyundai/Kia designs seem to do better these days. That would probably mean a new dash design.

 And why not.

2022 Hyundai Ioniq 6: new spy shots...

We still cannot tell much from this highly covered prototype. Except that it won't be as fantastic looking as the concept.
But the interior does seem really nice. Very minimalist and super simple. Which could be a breath of fresh air in the business.
As we know, the new Ioniq 6 will be an EV sports sedan based on the same platform as the Ioniq 5.

2022 Toyota Prius C/Aqua: new generation on its way...

That's really weird... The Prius C was canceled in the US a couple of years ago. With no direct replacement. Now we get these photos of a new generation model. With no camouflage and ready to go.
The Prius C was sold under the name "Aqua" in Japan. And they were both pretty much the same car.

Not sure yet if the new generation will make it to the US or not. Also no specs yet. The previous generation was rated at 48MPG City and 43MPG Highway.
A new one would need to improve on that by quite a bit to be relevant. Or be a decent plug-in hybrid. (Which could actually be very nice)

2022 Honda Civic hatchback: finally...

After all this time, we finally get to see official photos of the new-generation 2022 Honda Civic hatchback.

As predicted, it does look nicer and more modern than the rather stodgy sedan. (At least in my hatchback fan opinion) And a huge classy improvement over the current messy-looking generation.
It is also shorter than the sedan. ( by almost 5 inches). With the new flatter and longer hood, the hatchback now looks a bit too short. For some reason, Honda also claims the rear seat has almost 1.5 inches more legroom.
Engines are the same as the sedan. But "Sport" and "Sport Touring" versions can be ordered with a 6-speed manual.

The interior is exactly the same as the sedan, except, of course, for the cargo area.
Which doesn't seem to have a flat floor (At least from the pic above) and is weirdly narrower right behind the rear seats. So it doesn't seem as practical as it could be.

At least (from the bottom pic) you can tell it is quite easy to load up the big screen 4K TV you just stole in a dark alley at night.
(Good to know!)

On another note, I will be test driving the new 2022 Civic Sedan in a few weeks.

2022 Infiniti QX60: official pix...

The new 2022 Infiniti QX60 is finally out. And it looks quite nice. It almost has a Range Rover feel to it somehow. Except for that huge grille. The one that looks really bad on the smaller QX50. maybe it does look better on the larger QX60...
Otherwise, this looks pretty clean and modern.

Inside, I am really getting tired of that "quilted leather" stuff everyone puts in everything these days. Once you can get that in a Sentra, any sense of luxury about it is gone.
That orangy/brownish hue also seems the same as in the Sentra. You'd think the luxury division would want to get their own interior colors.

As usual, this is the pathfinder cousin. And it uses the 3.5 Liter V6 and 9-speed auto from the new Pathfinder. So it is not breaking any grounds. Its main competition will probably be the new Acura MDX. Itself an excellent choice. Also the "still great" Buick Enclave.

New Lexus Coupe: weirdo spy shot...

There seems to be a new rumor about Lexus getting its own version of the new Toyota GT86.

Which makes zero sense. Until you see this weird grainy spy shot of what looks like a GT86 with a Lexus grille. So what could it really be?

1. Indeed a Toyota with a Lexus grille.

2. A mule for a new Lexus based on the Toyota/Subaru platform.

3. Some private conversion to make some guy's Toyota look like a Lexus.

4. A joke on all of us...

(Thanks to a reader for the pic.)

2022 Peugeot 308 SW: maybe Peugeot's last wagon...

I think the "regular" new Peugeot 308 Hatchback is quite a mess visually. I was hoping that maybe the longer wagon version could be a bit better. Unfortunately, this is still quite a busy, overdone mess. A gruesome festival of scoops, vents, and side skirts.
Same thing inside. Where things are quite busy as well. Maybe it's one of these cars that do look better in real life?

This is just too bad. I do like the new retro Peugeot logo on the car. Otherwise, this is no "Pininfarina designed" Peugeot of yore...

2022 Kia Niro: a look inside...

Here is a look at the new 2022 Kia Niro's interior. Not much. Just a bit of the door panel and seat.

Not sure if it looks better or even more modern than the current one (Bottom pic). Of course, it's hard to say. The door might be the worst-looking part of the interior for all we know. (Or the best)

Thanks to a reader for this .

2022/23 Mercedes SL: almost here...

These are the best photos we have seen of the all-new generation Mercedes SL. And so far at least, it does look great.
Since it will be marketed as an AMG, it will be quite sporty. I do wish at least one version could go back to what the older SL used to be. Which was more luxurious than sporty. Maybe they could come up with a "non-AMG" base model. I don't think all SL buyers want an AMG car...

But no matter what, it'll be quite a pleasure to see these driving around once they come out...

Mercedes has been coming out with so many new models lately, they've almost been as prolific as Hyundai.
