2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5: pix and spex!

Last Updated:

At least to me, this thing keeps looking better and better. Inside and out, this is a futuristic and classy package. Tesla could really learn something here… (But they won’t)
How about a few specs:
– 2 battery packs are available. 58kWh or 72.6 kWh. The maximum range of around 295 miles.
– 2WD or AWD.
– Supports 400-V and 800-V charging.
– 10 to 80 percent chare in 18 minutes with a 350 kW charger.
– It is about an inch longer than a Honda CR-V with a longer wheelbase than the Hyundai Palisade. (by over 3 inches)
– 7 colors available in the US.
No info on pricing yet.
Not only this is good looking, although many won’t think so. Probably preferring the new Mitsubishi Outlander. (Yes, some will)
But it also seems to be an amazing package. Something not too big with a huge interior. This could be THE perfect camping companion!
More very soon…
(Meanwhile, please send all your generous contributions directly to me so I can actually buy one)

  1. Fantastic looking. Futuristic, with its own personality, and not overwrought like many current car designs with their oversized grills. Looks a bit like a futuristic Lacia Integrale, which I always liked.

I love boxy shapes with high roofs and flat sides; I prefer to be able to see when I'm driving. I despise the narrow side windows on so many cars (e.g. Camaro) and SUVs.

  2. I think it looks great. I'm hoping my next car will be a BEV and this is the best looking one yet. Looking forward to seeing it in person eventually.

  3. I am a fan of this as much as you Vince. Clearly they have spent a lot of time designing a very functional vehicle for families. It will all come down to one thing: PRICE !

  4. -10 to 80 percent charge in 18 minutes with a 350 kW charger.
The charging network outside of Tesla still sucks. The vary in different apps, speeds and connections. And not all the time do they work fluently.

  5. – It does have a frunk. A larger one on the RWD and a smaller one on the AWD model.
Although, apparently, the US is only getting the smaller one. With both versions.

  6. My feeling is that pricing will be $35,000-42,000. Instead of tax credits, the incentive should be $7500 rebate off MSRP.

  7. I like the design, but how can this have a longer wheelbase than a Palisade and still be packaged like an i30? Seems like a lot of car for not much boot or additional passenger space. Also, the little nicks on the wheel arch trim look like the driver's had some issues parking.

  8. Love the pre-dented doors. Great for parking lots.

I assume from the reclining chick in the dental chair with her eyes closed that its fully autonomous. Oh, Ioniq, or should I call you 5, wake me when we get there!

  9. I'm sorry, but for all the glowing opinions of this, I am thinking that the photos are a bit deceptive. Yes, it is clean, with an 80s retro-chic aesthetic, but it is quite scaled up from what we all think we are looking at. Once you see this next to other vehicles, it will be obvious how cartoonishly large those wheels are. The styling works great for a small economy car, but as someone else has said, I don't think it will age well.

  10. All cars age well. Gremlins, Pacers and even Azteks are now far cooler than when new. The Ioniq 5 won’t always look modern, but cars of the future of the past like the Citroen DS, DeLorean or Ford Bullet Birds (3g Thunderbirds) just look better as time goes on.

  11. The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV looks very futuristic and Audi like! I like it! Cannot wait to see see it in person. I think Hyundai has a hit with this Ioniq 5.

  12. I suppose with those dentist chairs you could have your teeth cleaned whilst waiting for the Bat-Ahh-Wees to WeeCharge.
