2022 Honda Civic: the hatchback…

Last Updated:

While the new 2020 Honda Civic sedan will be a more conservative design than the current version,
the hatchback will be a welcome change. A simple, classy (if a bit boring) design that is a vast improvement over the overdone mess we have now.
Fake scoops, spoilers, and cheezy black plastic trim everywhere are all gone.
The next generation looks more like a smaller/cheaper Audi A5 Sportback. I think it looks really nice (at least on this illustration) And really hope it will become the most popular version.
As it is better looking and more practical than the sedan.
It actually has a retro feel to it. It reminds me of older Honda models. Like the original 2 doors (hatch) Accord. Or even a modern version of the 1st generation Integra 4 door hatchback…
What do you think?

  1. I am not a huge fan of the current Civic hatch design, and like the sedan much better. That said, at least in the last 2 illustrations you have posted Vince, I think the 11th gen hatch is going to look better this time around.

  3. ugly, soulless, and completely redundant. I can't tell the hatchback and the sedan apart. the civic stopped being interesting 25 years ago.

  4. If they're aiming for complete irrelevance in Europe, this is the right way to go about it.

The current Civic hatchback might be utterly juvenile in its styling, but at least it's distinctive. This new one is nothing more than an appliance, and the family resemblance to the Accord that might help it sell in the US won't be a factor in Europe, as the Accord isn't sold here.

  5. I agree 100%!!! I liked the current sedan (once i got used to it) but never got used to the grotesque hatch. now, i'd consider the hatch, at least based on this pic.

  6. It definitely looks cleaner and classier. I can see early Honda design in it, actually.
My quiet hope is that hatchback gets to keep a manual transmission… totally extinct in Civic sedan.

  7. Not a fan of hatchbacks. Here in the Bay Area everything with a hatch gets broken into by laptop thieves. But if you’re going to have a hatch, at least make it boxy and distinctive like a GTI. If the current Civic hatch had all the dumb plastic frippery removed it would have been my favorite of the line. But I still wouldn’t buy it because calling the glass guy all the time to get your rear side window replaced gets old fast.

  8. I actually don't hate this.. looks pretty Euro classy, if a bit too unadorned. Reminds me of the super-clean 2006-10 Civic hatchback (not sold in US) that gave way to an overstyled, fender-swooped mishmash for 2011-2015. Then the current model took that look and stretched it out to American proportions. This feels like a back-to-basics "We Make It Simple" push and I'm all about it. It even has proper rear quarter windows and a beltline you can actually see out of!
