2022 Jeep Grand Wagonner: one big glass roof coming up.

Last Updated:

Jeep released more teasers of their all-new Grand Wagoneer, which is finally coming out. Some day…

They have a big “Grand Wagoneer event” next week, but apparently, they will only show a concept version. So basically, that roof might very well not make it to production. Just like Cadillac with the Lyriq, we will have to wait even longer to see the real thing.

Same thing inside. These vents look pretty cool and retro. Even a bit reminiscent of the 1930s and 40s Streamline Modern designs. Which is a great idea.
This will be a giant truck-based SUV. Competing with other giant trucks from GM and Ford. Just like they used to in the ’60s and ’70s.

  1. Difficult to gauge at this point, but wonder if Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are truly going to be different wheelbases, or just trim levels?

  2. The different wheelbase idea seems logical. Since this is what the competitors have been doing (Suburban/Tahoe etc…)

  3. Hopefully that dumb glass roof is only for the concept. We got stuck with a roof like that in my wife’s car and it’s a pain. From the front row the only effects are noise when open and too much light through the sunshade on bright days when closed. People in the backseat love it so we open it about twice a year. The rest of the time we wish it wasn’t there.

  4. The only issue with Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer denoting the wheelbase/LOA is that the Grand Cherokee is also going to come in two dofferent sizes, and there is already a Cherokee…

  5. @Drew, simple solution would be to take a page out of the Wrangler playbook and call the 7 passenger version of the GC… Grand Cherokee Unlimited.

  6. Maybe this could be the end of the Cherokee? (I know this may be unrealistic, but I feel like there is a ton of overlap between the current Cherokee and the Compass)

    Wagoneer / Grand Wagoneer
Cherokee / Grand Cherokee (SWB/LWB replacement to the current GC)

I do wish the Cherokee was still a rugged, boxy SUV – place a modernized body of the 90's Cherokee on the wrangler's power-train/platform. (Let me dream!)
