2021 BMW M3: that big mouth is back!

Last Updated:

It looks like the new 4 series giant grille is invading the 3 series soon.
At least the upcoming M3.
Which will be very controversial with the M3 fans.
The M3 is quite an icon for BMW. Unlike the 4 series (a newish rename for the old 3 series coupe)
I have to admit, I have grown to be OK with the 4 series design. But I am not sure about just sticking it onto a 3 series design.
I also wonder if this means the giant grille will migrate to the regular 3 series with an upcoming mid-cycle “facelift”.
It seems like BMW is really proud of its new grille design. So proud they are even using it on their upcoming EVs. You know, the ones that don’t even need a grille in the first place…
What do you think?
Does the 3 series look good what that huge mouth?

  1. It's actually starting to grow on me a little. Audi, Lexus, and now Genesis do large grills, so why not BMW. I prefer something smaller on all 4 of the makes, but it is what it is.

  3. I’m sure we’ll s all get used to it as we will BMWs continued decline in design. The hoffmeister kink is almost gone, the Z4 is mess, the 3 looks like a Lexus from certain angles, and the 8 gran couple is totally unrecognizable as a BMW…and what’s with those backwards digital gauges. Oh, and no more manuals, so I’ll pass on these driving machines

  4. If anything, it's even cruder than the 4-series grille. Again, it must be a consequence of all of their "star" designers leaving for other established brands or startups. Jozef Kaban, Anders Warming, Kevin Rice, Benoit Jacob, Pierre Leclercq, Nicolas Huet, Karim Habib (ok, he doesn't count. After all, he's partly to blame for the current crop of abominations coming from Bavaria. It's a good thing that he's gone.), Richard Kim, Kris Tomasson… the list goes on and on. BMW might have the worst record of employee retention in the industry. If they're just bleeding designers like this, something must be seriously wrong within the company.

  5. They've really lost the design distinctiveness they had for decades. I mistook one of the SUVs for a Hyundai recently…
