BMW 2 series Gran Coupe

Last Updated:

BMW has released a teaser (top) for the upcoming 2 series Gran Coupe.
Which is basically a sedan version of the new 1 series hatchback recently released.

It looks like they are trying to squeeze the 8 series Gran Coupe design onto a much smaller car. We’ll have to wait just a few days to see if it works…
This will be competing with the much sleeker looking Mercedes CLA.

The interior is expected to be the same as the one used in the hatchback. Pictured above.

Which isn’t bad… Maybe a bit simpler than what Mercedes is ding with the CLA these days.

The 2 series Gran Coupe is, so far, not planned for the US.

  1. Stupid choice not to sell it in the US, considering Mercedes is marketing TWO nearly identical small sedans in the segment, and stupidly, neither of then has a hatchback. This will sell very well to those lemmings currently buying/leasing decontented and underpowered 320i sedans just for the precious roundel.

  2. Wrong.

The 4 doors FWD Gran Coupe pictured here will not be the one at the L.A Auto Show and is NOT scheduled (so far) to be sold here.

What we will see the L.A Show is the next generation 2 door coupe.
Which will retail its RWD architecture.

  3. That is some clever camo – the rear door glass is one piece in the teaser pic, but the camo divides it up into two pieces. Unless the teaser is of a concept and the real one will have the tiniest rear door glass on the sedan market. I hope BMW sells it here and I hope they keep offering the 2-series with a stick!

  4. Try and roll that one piece window down with the wheel well intrusion and let me know where you get. Concepts and renderings often leave out these compromises made in the name of practicality. Much like how you see huge wheels and the tiniest mirrors on concepts

  5. Vince, provide a source for your assertions. Numerous reputable sites report that the Gran Coupe, not the 2 door coupe, will debut in November at the LA auto show and that it will be sold worldwide. Don't just say it's wrong with nothing to back it up; provide some reason for it. Sources here:
