2018 Hyundai Accent

Just like most new Hyundai Designs, there is nothing original here.
But in the case of the Accent, it seems just fine.
The current model starts at under $15 000.
So we are talking about entry level here. Nissan Versa territory.

This already looks 1000 times better than the Versa.
(At least the top of the line version pictured here)

It also has more power. 130HP from a 1.6 Liter engine. A 6 speed Auto instead of the CVT.
And a much (much!) nicer interior.

Still, I am not sure how many people would pick a basic Accent over a basic Elantra, which costs just about $2000 more.

And, in general, I would really recommend 2 or 3 year old car for that money.
If you are into getting a Hyundai, you can get THIS CAR. (and many others)
A 2017 Sonata with about 20 000 miles for $13 500!!!

Really. Why would anyone get  a new Accent for more money...

2019 Porsche 911 Interior

So far, it looks like a cross between the current car and the newer models like the Panamera and Cayenne.
As expected.

Unfortunately, it also looks like most of the gauges, except the tach, have been replaced by digital screens.
Not sure how that will fly with sports cars purists...

More pictures of the all new 2019 Porsche 911 are HERE

More pictures of the Chinese Buick Excelle wagon

The more I see this, the more I actually like it.

I think this would make a great little brother to the upcoming Regal TourX in the US.
Competing mainly with the rather popular VW Golfwagen.

It looks pretty good, has a very nice (Opel Astra) interior. Why not?

Subaru Viziv Performance Concept

Looks like Subaru is running out of names for their concepts. Seems like everything is Viziv "something" these days.

I guess this is supposed to give us an early look at the next WRX. Or something like it.
Some small sporty sedan with bulging fenders, skirts, wings etc...

Subaru has a very long history of pretty nice concept designs that never ever make it into production models..
So the production cars have nothing to do with their concept counterparts.

So even though this doesn't look futuristic at all, I would expect the real thing to retain about 10% of this design...

2018 Citroen Cactus

it looks like, not only the Cactus will loose its cool/original air bumps on the doors. But it will get a more conservative front end design as well.
With chrome lines surrounding the Citroen logo. Mimicking a thin grille. More in line with the C4 Picasso.
Wich is too bad. ( I hate fake grilles...)

I am not sure why they make such effort to make the Cactus more mainstream and conservative.
That was not the point of it in the first place.
If they want something boring, European buyers have plenty of VW modes to pick from.

Here is the current, more fun looking Cactus.

I drove one a couple of years ago, and loved it.  (HERE

The 1100 miles Electric Bus!

I know it sounds pretty crazy.

But Proterra has been able to squeeze 1100 miles on a single charge while testing their new Electric Bus.
it is really amazing.
Even if the real world number drops to around 900 or even a bit less. This is quite an achievement.
And it takes about 5 hrs to charge.

These should be replacing every single bus in the country. And how about the noisy garbage trucks!

Not sure what technology they are using. (Or maybe just the huge 660-kWh battery is just enough by itself)

Good for them!

All new Volvo XC40

I think this looks really good!

Actually much more original than the XC60 or the old fashion XC90.
I just hope that you can order a different finish inside. That "metal look" is a bit cheasy and cheap looking on these pix. (The mat finish wood on their other models looks so good, this is quite a step down...)

As far as engines, we only get a few bits of news.
Europe is still getting diesels. As well as a "T5 Drive-E" 4 cylinder. I guess that's a plug-in hybrid version. Later a pure Electric will be added.

Also available at launch are 3 versions of the 2.0 Liter 4 cylinder engine.
T3 with 156HP.
T4 with 190HP
T5 with 247HP

In the US, the 247HP AWD T5 will be available first for $35 200.
Later, the FWD T4 will be priced at $33 200.

A base Audi Q3 is $32 900. A base BMW X1 is $33 750. A bases Mercedes GLA is $33 400.
So the Volvo is about the same price than the most expensive brands.
Which, I think, is too much.
they just don't carry the same image as the big luxury German brands.
The XC40 should start at a bit under $30 000.

But, that's just me...

They also mention this is the first Volvo to use their new 3 cylinder engine.
I guess that's for later?

And, unlike the 90 series, this will still be built in Europe. In Belgium.
(We'll see how long that lasts....)

More pictures of the new 2018 Buick Verano/Excelle wagon

The new Chinese market Buick Excelle is what we would have had over here if Buick had decided to keep selling the Verano in the US.
it would have been the second generation for us.

A popular car in China, the compact sedan is now getting a wagon version.
Which I guess would have competed with the VW Golfwagen here.

2018 Audi Q8 Interior

It looks like the production version the Q8 (top pic) will stay pretty close to last year's concept.
Not surprises here, since that "concept' was just the already designed production car with a few "wilder" bits added.

The exterior design was just what to expect from Audi, which is a larger version of the A4 wagon.
The usual.

This will probably be quite expensive. yet will blend in traffic like a much cheaper, or older car...

More pictures of the 2018 Audi Q8 prototype HERE

Mitsubishi E-Volution Concept

Of course, they are "playing" with the legendary Evo name here.

This looks to be a 4 door SUV type thing. Seems that, within the giant Nissan/Renault/Mitsubishi conglomerate, Mitsubishi will be the SUV company. At least they should all be sporty.
This concept might be showing the company's new direction, sporty electrified SUVs.

Why not...

2018 Volvo XC40

Looks like Volvo did quite an amazing job translating last year's concept into the production XC40.
(Production model is the top picture)
I though the camouflaged prototypes were still hiding a concealed rear door handle but I was obviously wrong.

So far, this looks really good, and should be quite a hit for Volvo.

More on the all new XC40 very, very soon...

2018 Genesis G70

It does look nice and upscale.
But also like a blend of everything else.

Mostly a cross between Infiniti Q50 and Lexus IS. With a few lines added here and there.
Interior is also very generic.

And I am getting tired of that "satin" finish everywhere. I think it's time for something new.
Also the tablet style screen is still the laziest design idea in the past decade.
A few brands include it successfully into the dash design. Why not even try?  Again, time for something new...

Overall, for my taste, I prefer the Kia Stinger a lot more.
I understand Hyundai needs to fill the Genesis line up with more models, so I guess this works in that respect.
Not being from a "luxury" brand, the Kia will probably also be quite a  bit cheaper...

Mazda CX-8

The new Mazda CX-8 is, so far, still for Japan only.

It is not a slightly sleeker CX-9. But a longer 3 row version of the CX-5.
(Which could work for Europe as well. Better than the larger CX-9)

So basically, interior is very similar to the CX-5. With more seats.
It is also available (Like the Buick GL6) with a 2 seat 2nd row. For that more luxurious feel some of us crave.

I don't really moss this. Since we have the CX-5 and the CX-9. The one we should have here is the CX-4. Really...

Buick Verano Wagon

Another Opel based Buick for China only.
Buick sold the previous generation verano in the US. But never replaced it.
Chine got an all new model a couple of years ago, still based on the Opel Astra, but this time with a much more different design.
As it didn't really look like an Astra sedan anymore.

This year, it looks like the Verano is getting a wagon version, pictured above.
Not bad looking, if a bit lumpy...

This is the current Verano.
The grille will be redesigned for 2018 to match US Buicks. And that new wagon. (As well as Opels)

Buick GL6 Interior

This is interesting. I though the new GL6 was a version of the current Opel Zafira.
But the Opel got a few revisions last year, and they didn't include the new style Opel dashboard featured on the GL6. (Similar to the new Insignia/Regal)
So it looks like the Buick is actually a preview of the next Opel Zafira.

But that won't happen. Since now Opel isn't owned by GM anymore.
(The next Zafira, if there is one, will be based on a Peugeot platform)

I really wonder what will happen to Buick for their next models.
In China but also the US models.
Since the all new Regal and the Cascada are 100% Opel.
So is the popular Encore. I know Peugeot has a commitment to produce the current Buick models past 2019. But what about new models?
(I bet a brand new Encore/Opel Mokka was already in the works when Opel was sold)

Will the brand become a chromy Chevy, like they were in the 70's?

Kia Proceed Concept

This looks great. A really nice design.
But calling it a ProCeed is a joke. Really.

This looks nothing like the current (or future) pro Ceed model sold in Europe.
The Ceed (and sporty Pro Ceed model) are competing with the Golf.

This concept has the proportions of a RWD hatchback hatch/wagon.
Not a small FWD hatchback.

It's really too bad, since this is a really nice design. A can see a lot of people being disappointed when they see the real thing next year.

Talk about the real thing, here it is.
Still a small FWD hatch. With "small FWD hatch proportions".

Seems like a weird marketing idea to call this really cool concept a ProCeed...
