Lincoln MKZ Concept

Last Updated:

Just when Lincoln desperately need a great production model, they show us yet another concept.
A good looking one, sure.
But there has been many good looking Lincoln concepts in the past few years. (Whatever happened to the great looking MKR, or the Continental Concept???)
None of them has ben translated in great looking cars.

Once watered down for production, I fear this will just look like a revised Fusion.
Which the MKZ has been for years.

Lincoln needs more.
And, now the grille has horizontal slats? They seem so lost….

  1. I definitely disagree, Vince. This car literally took my breath away (perhaps because I'm so shocked it is a Lincoln.) The profile is spot on and I think it's just what Lincoln needs to separate itself from the pack.

The greenhouse is gorgeous, the rear is something truly new and the front (even when real world head lamps are installed ) is definitely unique among luxury marks. Okay, the the dash is nothing special, but the rest of the interior looks up to date and luxurious.

One thing is for sure: this car will give Lincoln an identity of its own. After seeing what Acura did with its products and what Cadillac did with the ATS and XTS, I think Lincoln has pulled ahead of the competition.

  2. What's the point of showing another concept that will never be built? Lincoln has a bad reputation of making nice concepts and production cars that look nothing alike. This "concept" is only on par with many cars that are already in production, so that doesn't bode well for what the real thing.

  3. Agreed Vince
Nice enough looking, horizontal grille is less distinctive – big a mistake. Lincoln must put MKZ into production as is without watering it down. To make it pop, must reinstate vertical grille and add coach style centre opening doors.

  4. Wooowwwwwwwwww that's gorgeeeoouusss!!!!

Vince, this is essentially the production model. Just tone down some of the things like the overly large wheels, missing door handles, and tiny mirrors and headlamps and you have the production version.

  5. The real thing will be in Chicago minus the retractable glass roof and will have door handles. This is a thinly disguised concept. The showed a concept version of this so they wouldn't steal any "thunder" from the Fusion introduction. Still too little, too late?

  6. I'll reserve judgment until I see the production car. I'm tired of being let down by watered down versions of a good thing.

  7. At first this didn't do anything for me, but the more I look at it and different angles of it I think it is going to be stunning in person. The profile which you don't have pictured is very Jaguar like. I am anxious to see this, and also can't wait to see the Fusion. I do wish they had kept the waterfall grill or the eggcrate from the last MKX.

  9. The Lincoln ES350??? I like how they have total copied the ES350's overall shape, bottom of A-pillars, headlamp shape and glass roof. No wonder everyone loves this design!!

  10. Only 1 reason I wouldn't but it — the dash. You spend most of your time looking at the dash, so it's pretty improtant that it be interresting to look at. This isn't. Needs more wood, more aluminum trim, less empty area.

    Sorry Lincoln; so close.

  11. Looks like a Cadillac XTS in the greenhouse. But this looks like the production model, even down to the size of the wheels. Lights maybe a bit thin and the glass roof probably won't make it, but the rest will.

    I'm more angry this isn't rear-drive.

  12. The people at Lincoln are stuck in the 70s. The interiors of Lincolns are so laughably stupid that only 70s old people could design them.

  13. Wow. not sure what to say. I had hopes for Lincoln, but now….? Maybe Ford WOULD actually be better off without a luxury division if this is their kickoff to better designed products. This says 'its time to clean house' design wise. Who signed off on this?

  14. I think this car looks great inside and out. It also doesn't look anything like its Fusion platform mate.

That said, I think some tweaks are in order to advance the design:
1)I agree that the horizontal grille elements need to go; they just don't say "Lincoln" to me. Using the brand's establshed vertical elements isn't going to stifle Lincoln's transformation. Besides, the vertical elements would provide some much needed visual contrast with the horizontal character line that runs directly below the headlight/grille area and the other horizontal details in the lower fascia.
    2) The headlights are too small when compared to the grille and the overall size of the vehicle. Hopefully the production version features larger headlights.
    3) I would like to see the Lincoln badge on the front fender. I really like that particular design detail.

Hopefully the 3 tweaks that I mentioned above appear on the production version. I also hope that the production version has very stylized exterior mirror housings and door handles; injecting some style into these 2 components goes a long way into further elevating the overall design.

  15. Lincoln proves ONCE AGAIN that they can make a great looking concept. I was expecting to see a production vehicle, NOT A CONCEPT! However, if the production version is 90% of this concept, then I think this is going to be a winner. I would'nt buy it myself as I'm more of a sport sedan type of guy and I look at this as kind of a Lexus ES type of car, albiet much better than the Lexus. I'm sure we won't see the fancy glass roof, the small side mirrors and the small headlights on the production version. Hopefully we'll see the rest though and maybe with a panoramic sunroof.

  16. Interesting greenhouse and rear 3/4 volumes. The sculpted rear reminds me a bit of the first generation Infiniti Q45 from the late 80s
