Sounds fun. I just saw one Veloster in the streets and I thought it looked good. And fun.
It’s not for everyone, but most fun cars aren’t.

This new version sounds like good news.

  1. Okay.

I thought I was going to prefer the grill on the Turbo version over the normally aspirated one. But – I don't. I think it's ugly.

  2. After driving a new veloster, I am totally disinterested in Hyundai. Crap drive, douche-bag sales people.

  3. I think this looks much better, and more aggressive than the NA model.

I hope that pricing is under $23,000. If it is, I'll have to take a serious look. 38MPG is hard to ignore, as is 206HP in a vehicle weighing 2,700 pounds.

  4. You can find bad sales people at any marque. I'm not even sure that the car's abilities are as big an issue as much as Hyundai/Kia's proclamation (by making the Turbo), that they intend to push into territory traditionally held by other brands. They got their foot into small and midsize sedan market… this is a challenge that they're out for the reputation of cars like Honda. It didn't take them long to get to this point… I wouldnt count them out with a comment like 'crap drive' … it might be, but they'll probably be working on that.

  5. Great looking car in person… in spite of the stupid third door. It is the same kind of youthful image that the 1st and 2nd generation CRX used to be. The turbo is their SI, which makes it even better. They are going to sell a ton of these things.

  6. I saw one of these on the streets and thought it looked interesting enough to get me into the showroom. I walked right out though as soon as my head brushed against the sunroof once I had found a comfortable seating position. I'm only 6'0" tall! I don't know why Hyundai bothered with the third door either. Neat idea in theory, but in reality a bit flawed. I usually DD for my friends and I know my (short) rear passengers would be confused. Or asking annoying questions like "Why is there only one door?" all the time. When I think of coupes that have tried the rear door thing, nothing really successful comes to mind. Saturn, Pacer, RX-8 (good car but still no cash cow), Clubman. I'm holding out for Alfa's glorious return to the US but for now seriously considering a Fit or a Chevy Sonic. Vince, you should review these cars!

It must be said though that "Veloster" is one of the best names for a car I've ever heard. It makes me think of a velociraptor. Still not as good as the Daihatsu Naked, Honda That's, or Mazda Bongo Friendee, but pretty good.
