More pictures of the Prius Aqua

Last Updated:

These are pictures of the Japanese market version.
We’ll have to wait a few days to see what the US version, called “Prius C”, will offer.
But it’ll be pretty much the same.

If its price undercuts the Honda Insight, they have a winner. They’ve already claimed the MPG will be better than the larger “regular” Prius.
Which would be much better than what the Insight is getting.

PS: I know hear that the Prius Aqua is priced right above the Honda Fit Hybrid in Japan, but well bellow the Insight.
Translated in US dollars, the Hybrid Fit starts at about $16 500.
Which could mean a bit above $17 000 for the Prius Aqua.
With a superior gas mileage that could be above 55MPG.

If Toyota can price the Prius C well under $20 000 in the US, and get a 55MPG rating, this will be a hit over here.
No matter how many people love to hate it…

  1. As ugly as it may be, the Aqua's MPG/price combination is exactly where Honda should have been in the first place, with a more economical Civic or Fit Hybrid, instead of trying to out-Prius the Prius with the underwhelming, insufficiently efficient Insight and CR-Z.

  2. Now that there are Prius c and v models, any clue what the regular Prius will be called? I'm guessing the "alpha" suffix (α)will eventually be applied.

  3. I was hoping that the FR-S was a sign that Toyota was done with making appliances. I can see that I was very wrong.

  4. I think it will sell. The target for these is stupid people (& "intellectual morons") If you do the math as to what 55mpg saves (in dollars) per year and subtract loss due to depreciation you immediately see that any number of 35-45MPG used cars are a MUCH smarter buy (they cost less to own). But as PT Barnum once said, "there's a sucker born every minute". So… I think they'll sell just fine–especially to Toyota-o-philes! Toyota's current reputation for spotty quality & questionable safety won't even figure into the equation for these customers.

  5. I agree intellectual morons will be interested in this car since they care about carbon footprints no doubt. regular morons can get by with 35 mpg.

Therefore by your logic, this car will be the best possible deal when purchased used in a few years.

    Yes, assuming technology stands still.

  8. Even Regular morons aren't dumb enough to believe that carcinogenic Hybrid batteries have a positive effect on the carbon footprint when they wear-out and start leaching cyanide, Mercury, alkaline, cadnium, lead; and the king of environmental toxins–Lithium–into the ground water & food chain. Cleaning up carbon dioxide is a walk in the park compared to dealing with these bad-boys we affectionately call "Hi!-breds"

  9. The best looking Prius to date.

Of course, that's like saying your girlfriend looks less ugly than she used to before the cosmetic surgery.
