2013 Toyota Corola

Last Updated:

Maybe, maybe not.
I dont think Toyota will come up with a “must have” design for the next version.
So this could be close.
The current, slightly revised, model is about the most horrible looking compact sedan on the road.
They need something . Anything….

  1. Looks to good to be a Corolla. More like an entry level model below the IS 250. Call it the Lexus BS 180. Priced at 20K it will sell like crazy to all those badge snob wannabe's.

  2. One thing we know: it'll be based on the same old Corolla structure they've been peddling for decades. Just change the body work and call it 'all new'. This is why Toyota fails.

  3. I hope Toyota wil be careful not to make it look too attractive. Otherwise they will take away the …..national pastime of whiners and Toyota bashers.

    Well said.

  5. If you think there is too much Toyota bashing you should see all the "comments" I am getting on a daily basis.
    The ones I don't publish.

About half of all the comments I get every day are either bashing Toyota, Korean cars, myself or the site.
Or just plain hate for something or someone.

But still, thanks to all of you who do have something to say, and a valid opinion on my posts.

  6. Good on you Vince.
I guess alot of people use blog sites to vent their anger of feelings which arn't even relavent to the actual subject.eg they are having a bad day.
At least you are a good moderator.
Keep up the good work, i have been reading your posts for 4-5 years now.

  7. I actually think that looks pretty good. It will age better than some of the other compacts on the market right now.

  8. lopsided
    disproportionate.

toyota loyalists will love the familiar akwardness.

probably corners like a 1957 IH dump truck (aka a 2010 Corolla)

  9. Vince you are doing great job with your site. As far as bashing and angry comments, if they do not come from juveniles, they come from those that are not going anywhere in life anytime soon. It is too bad they visit your site, but personally I take them with a grain of salt. They are the examples of who I should not be. Keep up the good work.

  10. Vince, I'm going to have to disagree with you about the Corolla's style. I like that it's a neutral and conservative, understated design. Where it needs updating is in the mechanical systems (better suspension, 6-speed auto tranny). And I think a Corolla station wagon, with rear seats that fold totally flat, would be a great addition to the lineup.

  11. I agree with you about the current Corolla. At best, its exterior design is an odd mix of bland and bizarre. VW is actually doing the type of exterior designs that Toyota should be doing, which are conservatively handsome, yet well balanced and attractive.

I actually think the car in the picture is much better looking than the current Corolla. It would definitely be a step up from the current exterior design. I don't think anyone expects the Corolla to have a class leading revolutionary design. I do think the market expects it to have class leading reliability and features, though.

  12. This actually reminds me of a mini Avalon….which isn't bad because any major change for a Corolla is good in my eyes. However, the "lets put an old design from one vehicle on the redesign of another" is alive and well. Take the rear of the current Sienna and last gen Lexus RX….also the rear of the last gen refresh of the 4Runner and the current GX.

Still love this site btw…I lost track of how long I've been here, but I've been around since "The Hollywood Extra" era.

  13. Thank you, for finally recognizing that illustrations and photoshops DO NOT represent new models, and are purely speculation/rumor. I hate it when people make definitive claims off of unsubstantiated internet B.S.

  14. The constant "Toyota bashing" is a direct result of the extreme dissapointment experienced by individuals who once viewed this company in a positive light. Having the ability to hire the best designers in the world, as one of the largest auto companies in the world, just compounds the frustration.

  15. I quite like the illustrations and photoshops. But yes, people should know that they are not the real thing. Have seen some good ideas, some bad. Wait for the spyshots for a better idea.

ON THE OTHER HAND…. Blogs are ALL about opinion, and opinion is ALL about emotion. Without it, this blog would read like a tech manual. And very few find that entertaining or interresting for very long.

The good gets boring without some bad for contrast. Variety (valid or not) is the spice of life.

Vince, you are alright. Your comments/review of the 2008 Focus, imho, was 100% on target(meaning… the car is good).

About people posting hate filled comments… it happens all over… sort of like "road rage"….. people taking out their personal issues, on others they don't really know, for no good reason at all(except they can't handle life/are miserable, so they want others to be miserable, too. Misery loves company).

    Remember:
    "Nothing says quality like Burlapp".

As for this car. It looks better than that 2012 Sentra.
This sort of reminds me of the 1990's(before 1995)…. Sentra, in some ways… the body of the car… (iirc, Motorweek said something about the 1990 or 1991 Sentra as a "small car with a large body design/look"/something like this. The car looked good..like a shrunken large car, or a larger looking small car, due to the lines/design).

It might not be as radically designed as the '12 Focus or new Elantra… but it is the best selling name/car(Corolla, iirc) ever…
and there may be a reason for that. 😉
