2012 Kia Rio

Last Updated:

What a good looking small car this is.
Being cheap won’t be the only reason to buy one anymore.

This year and the next will turn out great for those looking for small hatchbacks in the US.
With gas prices rising, I am sure more people, even in our land of giant pick up trucks, will try to save money on gas.

More on the all new Rio very soon.

  1. It's a shame that the US version won't have LED DRLs. I'm trying to figure out why only the Sportage SX gets them. What's insulting is that outside the US they get cornering lights too!

  2. Nice VW… oh wait, that's just another Hyundai/Kia copycat design.

Also in proud Hyundai/Kia fashion, there is ZERO resemblance to the previous Rio, and zero model tradition.

  3. "there is ZERO resemblance to the previous Rio, and zero model tradition" ….But isn't this better? Would you actually ask the same of the Optima too?

  4. can you please stop taking pictures from other peoples sites! This photo and the chevy photo are from another site you happen to post them the same day.

Should we remove your watermarks and post them on our sites? I can easily do that with photoshop.

    Thank you

  5. "But isn't this better? Would you actually ask the same of the Optima too?"

… No, it's not. If I want a VW, I'll buy a VW, not a gaudy overstyled Korean imitation. Point is, Hyundai has zero concern about tradition, and their customer loyalty will suffer as a result, when each redesign of a model looks radically different than the last. If the new Rio makes the old Rio look so much worse, than resale values on used Hyundai and Kia models will continue to tank.

  6. wow…that's a lot of blah blah blah.

point: if i were looking for a car of this size, I'd check this out.

  7. "Nice VW… oh wait, that's just another Hyundai/Kia copycat design."

Funny how when Peter Schreyer worked for Audi, his designs were original and genius, and now that he works for Kia, his work is considered copycat!

Ha, take your juvenile blind hatred for brands elsewhere.

  8. "If the new Rio makes the old Rio look so much worse, than resale values on used Hyundai and Kia models will continue to tank"

What a corny commet. That was very very corny.

  9. "Funny how when Peter Schreyer worked for Audi, his designs were original and genius, and now that he works for Kia, his work is considered copycat!"

Actually, that's precisely the issue. Schreyer created this design on VW/Audi's clock using their resources. Designs which themselves were evolutionary of previous Audi/VW designs that he had nothing to do with. He had no significant designs to speak of before Audi. If he's such a great designer, he wouldn't need to create a carbon copy of his previous employers work. Other than the Kia grille, which I like a lot, this is an obvious VW knockoff.

It'll be interesting to see what the next generation of Kias will look like. Unless Peter Schreyer has VW/Audi bugged, he'll have to start from scratch. Something he's never done.
