2011 Jeep Compass

Last Updated:

The “late” arrival of 2011 Chrysler models continues.

Like most of these “new” models, the compass is the same car as last year, except for the front and rear, and a new interior. (Which it shares with the 2011 Patriot)
And like most 2011 revised Chrysler models, the big news are up front. That’s why they don’t like showing us the profile, where the car looks pretty much the same as before.

Still, there are a lot of improvements here. Although I am not sure the Grand Cherokee front end fits with the goofy profile…
And inside, the console still has an 80’s Chrysler look to it.
It comes with a 2.0 Liter engine with 158hp which gets 23/29 MPG with a 5 speed manual.
A CVT is an option.
You can also order the larger 2.4 Liter with 172hp in all models. The larger engine gets the same MPG ratings.
( So I’m not quite sure why the 2.0 Liter is even available…)

Let’s hope they don’t jack up the price too much for 2011.
They did it with the Chrysler Town and Country, by almost $5000.

  1. They jacked the price 4k, they already announced this starts at 19,995k and used to start at 14,995k sooo good luck with that one, you can buy a used compass real real cheap right now !
I also agree , new front end on old body seems odd, and all the changes Fiat has made seems cheap and not well defined or refined, and it looks like the chinese bought chrysler and made these changes to all there models …

  2. I think this thing looks great. The revisions are absolutely fantastic.

While the old one was an ugly turd – there were no complaints about reliability / etc – so there is no reason why this shouldn't sell!

    Well done boys & girls!

  3. Where does this leaves the Patriot ?

Before, when you compared, the Patriot looked good and the Compass looked bad.

Now they have two similar vehicles!

  4. I would much rather have seen these improvements on the Patriot and done away with the Compass.
Where DOES the Patriot model stand in the line-up?

  5. "great little car just got a whole lot better", you're kidding, right! Do you read automobile reviews and reliability ratings?

  6. Vince –

I see you've complained about the price increase on the T&C – that's because they have now eliminated overlap with the Grand Caravan. Basically, if you want a cheap van, you must buy a Dodge, and if you want a loaded up one, you have to go to Chrysler. That increase in price on the T&C is simply because they eliminated the base models. The new prices actually are cheaper than equally equipped 2010s. And yes, I work at a CJD dealer….

  7. Thanks for the info on the T&C and Caravan.

But it still seems the revised Compass is about $4000 more than last year's model.

  8. I like it, but I don't think this car is "car" enough, unless the purpose of this car-ute is to provide Jeep customers another with alternative to the Patriot…

which is pointless, and you've got models cannibalize one another. I think Jeep could benefit from a wagon the Audi Avant wagon or the older Subaru outback.

  9. this compass comes with standard air conditioning, power everything, i think that the price increase is justified with the content you receive on the base model.. and with the avail. of the trail rated package, this should be a really formidable player that it should have always been

  10. This is an embarrassment for the Jeep brand. It's a fake off roader and should be scrapped completely. The front is an improvement, but the rear is still really bad. This will have to compete on price alone. And that's not a good position for the Jeep Compass to be in.

  11. I love it! The reason for the increase in price is – just like GMC, they are loading up the base models with much more content, so there simply arent any more stripped down versions.

An incredible midcycle refresh. Chrysler is doing some incredible work – I look forward to selling my Acura and Volvo and buying Chrysler products that meet my need for style, substance, capability and budget.

WHATEVER YOU DECIDE – BUY AMERICAN! WE ALL BENEFIT FROM IT!

I always laugh at these types of comments….Chysler is NOT an American company
    1) Partly owned by the Italians
    2) Run by a Canadian
    3) Platform parts from Germany and coming soon Italy.
    4) Best selling products are made in Canada.

Ya – I'm curious to see how these guys are American….

  13. Yeah, $4,000 price increase and they will sell NONE.

They weren't selling any when the base price was $16,000. If I recall correctly they sold less than 15,000 last year, that is PATHETIC.

    Exactly what I was thinking.

I think these people have never heard of JD Power, TrueDelta, and Consume Reports.

  14. Did the old one sell enough to be profitable?
    YES.
    Is this better?
    YES!
Will is sell better even if priced higher?
    YES!

    End of discussion.

    Way to go, Sergio!
    -future stockholder.

  15. always laugh at these types of comments….Chysler is NOT an American company

    1) Partly owned by the Italians
    CORRECTION:
They have an option to increase a 20% stake.

    2) Run by a Canadian
Totally IRRELEVENT to the Nationality of the corporation.

    3) Platform parts from Germany and coming soon Italy.
So parts are world-sourced; just like GM, Toyota, Ford, Honda, BMW, Mercedes, VW/Audi, etc.etc. Welcome to manufacturing in the 21st century.

    4) Best selling products are made in Canada.
Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge have always (and still are) extremely popular in harsher climates (Canada, Alaska, Mexico, South America, etc).

The MAIN relevance of a company's National Origin is improtant for 1 reason only: The taxes and Profits all go to the benefit of that country. Chryslers Profits (and Taxes–of which there are LOTS throughout the process) primarily wind up in the USA and support the standard of living IN THE USA. (UNlike the Honda Plant in Ohio or other transplants where the "lion's share" leaves the US even before the car is sold!).

    UNDERSTAND??

  16. Loved the Lipstick on a pig comment. Sadly I remember when this joke for a ute came out, now do remember this thing is called a Compass….it didnt even come with a compass nor was one even optional.

Pig? For sure. Joke? Definatley! Does it need the lipstick? No. It doesen't matter how you disguise a turd, a turd is still a turd. And this is a biggie.

    Oh – I understand – you're missing my point.

That being, blinding patriotism rewards marginal performance. Why would a consumer spend their hard earned $'s on something just because it's 'American'…I read somewhere that the new Sonata is has the most American content in it versus any other manufacture…so to that community (factory jobs, transportation jobs, all the assorted suppliers, etc) – should those people buy exclusively Hyundai over Chysler?

As well – there really is no such thing as an 'American' company anymore – all companies are global at this point. Take Apple – they have the best selling iPod / iPad and are the largest music retailer in the world – yet, all their hardware is made in China.

Yes, I understand what you're trying to say – however it is a sentiment based upon 1980 logic.

  18. The Sonata has high US content? I won't buy one then!

This thing looks a lot better than the current freak mobile…And looks better than the Patriot.

  19. DEC 16 4:30am: "Yes, I understand what you're trying to say"

No, you really don't get it.

    1) When you but a Honda made in Ohio; that's 1 less Chevy made in Detroit. So Honda didn't create any jobs–it just MOVED jobs from Detroit to Ohio (and from an American-owned company to a foreign-owneowned company.

    2) A foreign-owned company takes ALL the PROFITS bach to headquarters. Where the HIGH_SALARY SUITS LIVE and SPEND that income. (I used to be one of those guys.) And pay income taxes and sales taxes and FICA/SUTRA taxes capitol gains taxes and a LOT more to the COUNTRY OF OWNERSHIP — NOT the country of final assembly. And when they buy homes, club memberships, boats, toys, etc. they spend most of it in their own country. Creating jobs in their own country. The Renisance Center in Detroit was paid for from the profits of GM/Ford/Chrysler including the profits earned off of Ford in Europe, GM in Australia, Chrysler in South America. Likewise, the fastest way for an American consumer to send $4000 to Korea is to buy a Hyundai (even one assembled in the US). And when Hyundai (or Ford) makes a big profit and donates a few million to charity where do you think that money get's spent? Not where the assembly plant is. IT GETS SPENT WHERE THE SUITS LIVE (The country where the Headquarters is).

The only people who ever try to claim otherwise are the foreign companies that sell to Americans and the foolish Americans who try to rationalise drinking the advertising koolade and bought the foreign name plate.

    It DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
    A REALLY REALLY BIG DIFFERENCE!

  20. Public companies are owned by Shareholders and not by "countries"…Try to grow up. Buy the most for your money. Period.

  21. Hahaha! What a joke. Looks like when the Chinese take the front end of one vehicle and slap it on another and make it seem like a whole new creation. SMH.

    Mabey you need to "wise-up".

The more cash we send out of the country the further our standard of living drops. (Speaking as a previous CEO of a "C" Corp.; and also as the CFO of an "S" Corp. (Same applies to larger LLC's.)

  23. Sorry – I'm buying the best quality and value for my money.

If that happens to be an Escape or Equinox or a Compas – great. If it happens to be a sportage – then great as well.

I've been burned WAY to many times by Ford / GM or Chysler to blindly hand them my $30K just because of the geographic location of the company. If they want us to buy their products – make good products….seems like a fair thing to ask of a manufacturer.

  24. Sorry – I'm buying the best quality and value for my money.

I agree completely. I've had the best luck with Buick, Cad, Ford, Dodge and Jeep. So that's what I instruct our buyers to purchase; and it's also what I drive myself.

Unfortunately for most of the 90's and a lot of the 2000's – this wasn't a reality. I'll hand it to them – in particular Ford….they really turned it around. Prior to 2006 – I'd never have considered one – now they are the company (IMHO) to beat for value and quality.
