2012 Hyundai Elantra

Last Updated:

Once again, this looks to be pretty sleek. Especially for something competing with the Corollas of the world.
MotorTrend seems to think the car will be fitted with a version of the new 2.4 Liter that comes in the new Sonata.
I don’t see why both these cars would get the same engine.

They also mention that, in the new Sonata, this engine is expected to be rated at 35MPG HWY.
I have never heard that either.
If true, that would make the Sonata a best in class as far as MPG is concerned.

  1. The only major thing that's really new about the new Sonata's 2.4 is direct injection, and the Elantra isn't getting that engine. There's a good chance that the Elantra will get either a DI version of the 2.0 World (which should be good for around 165-170 hp) or the non-DI 175 hp 2.4 like the Kia Forte does.

As for the Sonata's 35 MPG rating, where have you been Vince? That number's been out since the new Sonata's debut at the L.A. Auto Show.

  2. It looks great so far. I like that c pillar too, even though there is a black spacer there (it's small). Is the 2.4 going to have direct injection? If so and it's not to heavy and it has decent gearing, then I can see the 35 mpg. It should have decent pep too.

  3. Ford Fusion gets 41 MPG with the Hybrid powerplant; but only 34MPG HWY with the std. 4 cyl. Of course the Fusion / Milan are quite a bit bigger than a Corolla.

  4. I thought it was the next Lamborghini… well almost. Its profile is striking. It's almost a one-box(?) type. Love it.

  5. So when should I attend the Chevy Cruze's funeral service? I hope I can make the wake. Poor thing it might die at still birth. Lol.

Agreed. The Cruze should have been on sale two years ago. I don't think this will make much difference. I do think that the Focus will trounce both of them.

  7. Wow, all this and the Cruze still has not debuted. Man if it's aged now it will really really really age by the time Summer arrives. GM never ever reveal a new car 2 year prior to being debuted. I also hear people are not as hipped to the Volt and rather wait on the other manufacturers to come out with their own version as well.
