Will this end up being the 1st “Chinese Volvo”?

  1. Cool car, even the color. Volvo is strange company, they make nice looking cars, not terribly reliable, kinda pricey and they have a hard time making a profit. I don't think any of those things will change under the new owners.

  2. Great-looking car, but…

    Enough already with the cell-phoning-while-driving!

Some marketer at Volvo thinks it's futuristic and cool to show bluetooth-enabled phones. The thing is already standard on entry-level Kias.

It's as much "in" and "cool" as the Miami Vice sunglasses the driver is wearing 🙂

  3. This Pontiac Grand Prix look alike is already aged before it even comes out. As the original poster states, Volvo's are over priced, ackward, cars with poor mechanicals. The current V50 is the only car in their line up that has an overall good loooking and well balanced design.

  4. This video is not a good way to see this car. Too much BS and not much of the car. In fact, it looks underwhelming. And what is up with the dude wearing an earpiece? I guess that means there is no such thing as bluetooth?

  5. not terribly reliable? my 2005 S40 has given me zero trouble. zero. wish I could say the same about my Toyota…

  6. Why does the guy have a bluetooth headset on? Isn't this car available with bluetooth integrated already? Looks a bit douchbaggey.

Anyway, good or bad, I don't think we can credit the Chinese with this car. This car is essentially being given to them already completed. It'll be the next generation that will show what they can do.

  7. When people talk about reliability or problem in vehicles or whatever, they are talking about per hundreds or thousand they produce. Of course any one vehicle in one brand could be better that one vehicle in another brand, we are talking about on average. Volvos is far less reliable than toyotas. Do some research, and spare me toyotas current problems, they have been making cars forever.

Agreed. I bought my mother an S40 T5. It's proven to be nearly flawless in five years. It's getting pretty high on the odometer, but she really doesn't want to give it up. So I'm happy for her to drive it as long as she wants to. My family has always had at least one Volvo and I like supporting Ford, who I think has done a great job with Volvo. But I'm afraid this might be the last one. There are too many reasons not to trust Chinese products. Nor do I want to give China any more money than I already do now. We shall see I guess.

Nice car. I already give China enough money though. So no thank you.

Well, if you live in the US, Washington will just borrow it back anyway, so hey….

Look, people. Volvo is a Swedish company that is a wholly owned subsidiary of its Chinese parent. Volvos will never be ALL-Chinese.

And I bet if this car was a Honda, everyone would drool over it.

You must work for Volvo. By the way, did you know that your S40 is just another Mazda 3?

  11. not reliable? do your homework. well, I did. results? more likely to die from sudden acceleration in a Toyota than a Volvo. supposed to be the pedal mechanism sez Toyota. I do not believe them.

  12. "You must work for Volvo. By the way, did you know that your S40 is just another Mazda 3?"

Sure. I bought an S40 and I'm fully aware that it shares the same platform as a Mazda and a European Ford. All very good cars. My little brother has a Mazda 3 and loves it. They look totally different and the Volvo is a little larger. It's not like a tarted up Camry with a Lexus logo. When Toyota platform-shares, it kills people. And that's really sad.

Toyota and Lexus cars are the best. Everyone else is trying to play catch up by bringing them down. What a bunch of losers….

  14. I'm on my third Volvo wagon and I've had an S60. They have all been very reliable. My current wagon one is a 2008 XC70. Not only is it reliable, it is the nicest, most luxurious car I've ever owned. Fit and finish is great. The car is incredibly quiet and great on long trips. The seats are the most confortable seats of any car I've ever sat in. My other car is BMW 3 series (2005). I prefer driving the Volvo.
