Next BMW 3 series?

Last Updated:

It sure looks like it to me.
And it might even be the all new hatchback GT version that is planned for the next 3 series.

The base engine in the US won’t be the usual 6 cylinder anymore.
We are supposed to be getting a new 4 cylinder turbo in the base model.

  1. Looks great to me. Though I feel that Chris Bangles design is what sparked each car company to make more radical designs, I do like that bmw is going back to its more simple designing.

  2. Ehm, guys. OPEN YOUR EYES! That´s a regular 5series GT testing on the ring. Nothing more, nothing less.

  3. Sorry this is NOT the 5 seriers GT … I repeat NOT the 5 series GT. As reported it is 3 series and a 3 Series GT. The 3 sedan will have a shorter trunk than the current model. This is a picture of the 2012 3 Series sedan for the 2011 model year. Also the 3 series coupe will be a fastback design think of a smaller 6 series, with a 3 series face.

  4. i have very little faith on BMW delivering their promise of high reving high performance 4 cyl engine that can match the performance of the 200 something to 300 something hp/torque output v6. and i am even less confident that the downsizing of the car/engine will actually translate into cheaper MSRP of the vehicle. i have been surprised and impressed by the outputs of some of the new v6's lately, but for a very long time the overall development of 4 cylinders for most brands have been disappointing. seems like a last gen I4 found in a 10 years old car can still be competitive today.

You have never been to Europe or outside of the US have you?

See what some of the D/I or F/I four cylinders are doing as far as outright output and fuel efficiency.

A turbo'ed four cylinder with sufficient output would motivate a 3-er nicely.

  6. So, Mr. "IfIwouldtellyouIhave2killyou", sorry but YOU ARE WRONG!! I repeat it only one more time: THAT`s THE 5series GT!! I am one of the photographers who´s sitting 16 weeks every year at the Nürburgring (where this picture was taken too). And I saw THAT CAR passing me by about A HUNDRET TIMES and so I KNOW what I´m talking about. THAT´S NO 3 series!!!!! ARE YOU BLIND???

  7. Hey GH Pixx, If that cars is a 5 Series GT, then why does it have differt mirrors to the official pics and the earlier spy pics?
If it went past you A HUNDRED TIMES, you missed the new 3 Series A HUNDRED TIMES!

  8. It does NOT have different mirrors!! Why do you think so? AND: If that´s the only changed thing in your eyes, then you are standing on very thin ice. Look at these pics, they also show the same 5series GT, and the mirrors are the same.
