  1. Wow, it's sad how I think this is overpriced, but it's still under the competition, so logic makes my head explode. Does this mean that the Santa Fe can top 30,000? I know the Veracruz tops in the 40s so it only makes sense.

  2. the more i see of this little Hyundai, the more i like it. i think it's the best looking little cuv out there. can't wait to see them driving around. the price/equipemnt ratio is great too.

CRV is definitely dead now. 🙂

    Yeah, not so much.

    CR-V is bigger
    CR-V has more horsepower
    CR-V is bulletproof reliable
    CR-V laughs at depreciation

    Let your head explode.

The current Tucson comes close to 30K when you check all the boxes.

The current Santa Fe can EASILY pass 30K when optioned up.

The Veracruz can be optioned to over 40K

What is so hard to understand????

  4. I don't see the price advantage. Any company can strip a car to nothing and say it's cheaper than the competition. When you add things like automatic and the popular equip pkg there's not much difference. Also, at the higher end the differences are negligible. Also, you're comparing a brand new Hyundai model to two aging models from Honda and Toyota. I don't think the advantages will hold up so well against the new models. Still, kudos to Hyundai for what "appears" to be a job well done.

  5. The 2010 Hyundai Tucson has a lot of standard equipment, bluetooth, side repeater exterior mirrors, air cleaner ionizer, etc. However, here is one stat that stands out in favor of the CR-V:cargo volume:

    CR-V
    Rear Seat Up:35.7 Cubic Feet
Rear Seat Down: 72.9 Cubic Feet
Overall Passenger Volume: (varies by trim level)LX: 103.8| EX & EX-L:100.9 Cubic Feet

    Tucson:
    Rear Seat up:25.7 Cubic Feet
Rear Seat Down: 55.8 Cubic Feet
Overall Passenger Volume: 101.9 Cubic Feet

On the plus side the Tucson has slightly higher MPG* (not EPA Certified) Combined 26 MPG.

As much as I like the new redesigned Tucson, I wonder if it is enough to unseat the class leading CR-V?

  6. glad some people like it…i think it's an ugly and overpriced korean car which will depreciate fast.

  7. I'm in the minority, but it's too bad you can't get a stick on the upper trim levels with AWD.

BTW, what's "Soft touch interior paint"?

Paint that gives when you press it?

  8. It's a really unattractive vehicle. From a design perspective, it's a disaster. For $19K there are plenty of other vehicles you could get that would be better looking. And the resale value on Hyundais is lousy compared to Honda or Toyota. There is no free lunch – you pay for it somewhere. The Honda might cost you more up front, but you get it back later.

  9. junk is junk . trailer park trash is trailer park trash, it doesn't matter how much money or expensive clothes Brittany Spears has.

  10. Impressive. After visiting the Los Angeles Auto Show last Friday, I have to say Hyundai was one of the most impressive brands overall on display. Rather than resting on their laurels making uglier and uglier designs, e.g., Honda, Hyundai is making giant leaps with each new generation of cars. Honda and Toyota should be afraid. Very afraid.

    CRV is OVERPRICED
    CRV is U-G-L-Y !
    CRV is D-E-A-D DEAD

Honda is being eaten alive by Hyundai. WAKE UP & FEEL THE WINDS OF CHANGE!

  12. CRV or TUSCON
    CRV or TUSCON
    TUSCON or RAV4
    TUSCON or RAV4

In Canada (and Mexico, and most of South America) Dodge Journey outsells them all. Go figure!

  13. interesting….

20 years ago the koreans had began a foothold in the market. the japanese, who also took nearly 20 years to secure their marketshare, went upscale (acura, lexus, infiniti, and, for a while, mazda (remeber millenia?).

now, with the emergance of the chinese automakers entering the markwt, the koreans appear to be nearing that next level…

will genesis not being branded under a premium set of dealerships make a difference? in hindsight, with the lack of growth in the economy, could the cost of the network been possible?

  14. Hyundai says the fuel economy would be 23/31 mpg which is surprisingly 10% better than CRV/RAV4 in both city/highway.

Will be interesting to see if Honda/Toyota reacts to it and improves their next model.

  15. I dont' get it, the Dodge Journey is a steaming pile of ass. Even an Accents interior has superior build quality than Dodge.

  16. The Journey only outsells the rest because the marketing TELL YOU that. I sure as hell do not see it. Infact where I live, I see tons more last generation Tucsons around than Journeys.

That being said, I live on the west coast, and it seems the west coast prefers to buy import cars anyways.

    I don't think it is.

The CR-V dominates its class. It does everything very well, it isn't great at everything, but it is perfectly competent though.

    It has a perfect balance.

Honda dropped the ball big time with the CRV and let Hyundai beat them to it. Oh well.

    December 9, 2009 10:21 AM"

    Really? Honda dropped the ball????

The current CR-V IS IN ITS 4TH MODEL YEAR!!!!!!!! The G2 Tucson hasn't even been released yet.

The new CR-V will be released in 2012, then you can start saying they dropped the ball.

It is still the best selling SUV in America and it has been for going on four years now.

    Get real.

  18. Designs and quality are much better than what they used to be. But, they are no better than HONDA, TOYOTA, etc. With the discount disappearing, Hyundai needs to be careful to continue pricing its cars lower than those guys.

Yes, Honda has dropped the ball by not doing enough with the CRV line and for the most part letting it wallow in mediocrity. Is it acceptable for Honda buyers to know that they will be buying a three year old model that's more costly and steps behind most of the competition's newer models? Plus, as you mentioned, Honda will not be offering a new generation CRV until at least two years from now. As you also pointed out, this is only Hyundai's second offering of the Tucson; and it's already surpassing Honda's FOURTH generation CRV. I can only surmise that the Honda name is the only card Honda holds. Why down play and reward such a lack of effort? Honda is relying too much on name alone and this is one area that may cost them if they intend to rise prices.

  20. Honda buyers as a group; are notoriously daft when it comes to negociating price. Over HALF of the CRV's leave the showroom at almost LIST! That's not as true with Ford, GM, Hyundai, Dodge & Kia brands. I think the difference between the ACTUAL "out the door" price and List makes the TUSCON an even better deal than it appears. Add in better gas mileage and it's a no-brainer compared to CRV (which is arguably the uglier of the two). The Rav4, Journey, Equinox, and Terrain all are better looking than the TUSCON so their higher "out-the-door" price may be justified. Personally I like the GMC best; and would pay the extra cash to get it over any of the others.

    Seriously?

Wallow in mediocrity??? It places either first or second in EVERY SINGLE comparison test it has EVER been in.

You already know what Honda has in store for two years down the road and you are POSITIVE that it isn't going to be better than this second generation Tucson? What a ridiculous comment. No one but their product planners and engineers know what they are bringing to the table. Honda, as well as Hyundai usually have five year production runs, completely normal in the industry.

If the CR-V was such an awful car, it wouldn't get such great reviews and be the BEST SELLING SUV IN AMERICA for going on four years. Even the past two generations were best sellers in their segment, don't include the Escape because of ridiculous fleet sales.

You have NO clue what you are talking about, GTFO of here.

  22. "The Journey only outsells the rest…"

…According to actual numbers, provided by various financial & investment firms.

"Yes, Honda has dropped the ball by not doing enough with the CRV line and for the most part letting it wallow in mediocrity…"

    -I couldn't agree more.

"don't include the Escape because of ridiculous fleet sales"

–on the contrary. People who buy for fleets actually RESEARCH the vehicles. And keep REAL records on reliability (unlike the opinion "surveys" that Consumer's Digest totally relies on). People who buy for fleets will lose their job if they're wrong about a car's reliability, performance or quality. I have more respect for fleet sales than I do for some consumer's biased & ignorant OPINION. A consumer will keep making the same mistake over & over because they can't admit they are wrong– a fleet buyer WON'T. Car companies like to call it "customer loyalty". I call it a flaw in human behavior.
