All new Toyota Prado/Lexus GX

Last Updated:

That really doesn’t look better than the current version. Which has been around for a while.
The exterior is pretty much a mess, and the interior looks like what you could find in a Chinese car.

Just a reminder, the current GX starts at $ 48 000. I don’t think this one will be any cheaper.
Quite a bit of change for something that looks so bad…

Thanks to a reader from Panama for the pics.

  1. Clearly, Toyota is running out of ideas. That blocky dashboard looks like it came from the 1980s…

  2. There is NO way that the god awful interior will make it over to the Lexus. Mark my word, it will be redesigned.

    This is just awful.

  3. This vehicle is a perfect example of what's wrong with the styling teams at Toyota. This thing IS a mess. Vince, you hit the nail on the head when you said the interior looks like it was designed in China. I'd like to say, designed by a crappy Chinese car design team at that. The exterior is even more of a disaster. The front end looks like they hit a wall at slow speed, AND THEN put the bumper on it. The back….the taillights look like they were basic rectangles and then they added little triangle pieces to them to give them some….ahem….style. That's a cheap accountant move there and you know what….IT LOOKS CHEAP! And that spare tire cover……WHAT THE HECK IS THAT!!!! I realize it's the easiest place to access the spare tire but I'm willing to bet all the tools to replace the tire are inside either underneath or next to all the potential cargo one would have stuffed in the back. When was the last time you saw a spare tire mounted on the outside of a medium or full sized suv like that? Usually you see that on the smaller suv's because there's no room inside or they're trying to save costs by just mounting it to a frame on the outside…..in other words IT'S CHEAP!!!

This vehicles ONLY saving grace is it's (hopefully still) good mechanical engineering and the little Toyota emblems they'll slap all over the vehicle.

  4. I fail to see how this is worth $20k, let alone $48k. It looks like a sad Chinese knockoff of the last-gen GX.

  5. They dont have any problem selling in other countries.
They are very good and are also used commercially as well including work in mines.

  6. This isn't likely the Lexus GX version. The Prado has always been ungainly and utilitarian looking next to the GX. The mechanicals are great, so with Lexus interior and exterior, it could be a good vehicle.

  7. Gawdy garrish Grill. Opy rear-end. Stark hard plastic-looking dash. Keep it undet $20k and mabey no one will notice that toyota's trucks are CONSISTANTLY bigger polluters (with worse gas mileage) than similar-sized GM vehicles.

  8. To you people of the west (America) the new Prado might look horrible. But the matter of the fact is very simple. This is NOT FOR YOU. 😕

I own a PRADO and that doesn't look crap and most importantly doesn't feel crap. I don't understand how you say that it is crap when you haven't touched this car, or even seen in front of your own eyes? You don't even know how this car drives.

Man your comment shows you guys are racist. Why don't you just buy a GM made car?

Tell me how many of you have actually driven a Lexus GX (not available in the East)? I bet you just shoot blank in this comment area.

  9. Great all Hyundai/kia has to do is work on their resale value and continue bettering their reputation. The Borrego shouldn't have anything to worry about for Toyota's designs. The Borrego's main issue left about Toyota is it has to better the brands reuputation and have a good resale value. They have to continue bettering their quailty every year and looking better every year. Make good hybrids and fuel cell cars in the future. I can't wait until Kia's new plant opens up in the States.

  10. In regards to what Dunerboy said, WOW!!! I've never been called a racist before because I did'nt like a particular vehicle. hahaha That's freakin' hysterical!!! Also the title also says Lexus GX so, UNFORTUNATELY, we will be getting it here.

Uh…one more thing…according to your post, I should see in person and drive each vehicle before I make a comment about it in a blog site. Well, that's not very practicle, besides I have a job and a life so looking at and driving all those cars may be a bit of a burdon to my schedule.

I'm not trying to be mean or ridicule you. If you, or anyone else, own or like it then I wish you all the luck and happiness there is with your purchase. Personally I think I'd rather have a 5 mile wide meteorite land on my head than have to look at it myself though.

I've driven an RX. It feels EXACTLY like a softer riding 4Runner, which is not impressive to say the least. I certainly wasn't impressed with the interior either. There were two wood trim pieces that were cracked for no explainable reason.

Sorry, this thing looks like crap. If you want/need a body on frame SUV buy a Borrego.

  12. Right on!!!! Buy a Kia Borrego. I drove it and love it. Best of all, it's rare and a bof SUV that is good to own. Plus it won an award from Edmunds over the Landcrusier that has been out what 12 years?

Kia have a long long way to go yet.
They are still plagued with problems.

    Really?

Consumer reports and JD Power don't seem to think so.

Care to back your claim up with FACTS?

  14. So what if Kia still has problems. So does Nissan, Mercedes, Pontiac, Chrysler, Suzuki. The only reason why you said that is because Kia is Korean. If I said get a Chrysler Aspen or Tahoe you wouldn't had said that. Why? Because it's not Korean. And for your information, Kia has finally reached above average. It's always Kia vs. Honda and Toyota. It's never Toyota Vs. Honda What about Subaru Vs. Suzuki.

  15. It looks like an old Suzuki SL-7 when it had bof from the side. People where quick to say the Kia Borrego looks like a Lexus. Lets put Lexus out there now. If this was a Hyundai/Kia people would have said that tire in the back is so outdated. They want to blame China for this design. Why not blame Japenese for the design isn't Toyota from Japan? If this was a Hyundai/Kia then China wouldn't get blame it would be Korea to get the blame for the ugly designs. But since it's Lexus blame China for the cheap looking design.

  16. Wow. This thing looks very third-world. Is that a deli cash machine on the top of the dash? It might sell well, but so does the Camry. And they're both $hitty vehicles.

  17. "…. korea do have cheap and nasty looking designs thats why" Yeah back in the Kia Sephia years. That was over 10 years ago. What about the 2010 Kia Sorento, Veracruz, Santa FE, Borrego, VG, new Sanata, facelifted Sonata, Forte, thoes weren't out back in the Kia sephia years were they? And since you see the interior of the next GX, what do you call this?

  18. HellO

i am very much keenly waiting for the 2010 Prado to come in the middle east,

even though it looks weird in the photos, i challange it wll look good in practical, and also with lots of steering controls and other gadgets, i wll love to drive it and own it ASAP,

any one who has seen this new Prado or driven or any one who has this new prado 2010, i request you to kindly shower more info on it,

i will be thankful to u
