All new 2010 Toyota 4 Runner

Last Updated:

I guess these pictures speak for themselves…

The auto industry seems to be in a rot as far as deigns are concerned. We are living sad times.
Unless retro 80’s is now becoming cool….

  1. Vince, what the hell is going on? Please post pictures of a nice car…oh, I forgot, there aren't any nice cars anymore…

  2. I guess since they are getting rid of the FJ Crusier, they decided to merge the designs of that and the current 4R to produce this? Anyway, if the Land Crusier is still around (and for the price they want for it these days) this isn't going anywhere any time soon, even if it sells at low volume.

  3. I like it. It looks better than the pictures in the previous posts.
It does have a retro look about it.
But since every other car makers have been doing it for years, why not.

  4. Well, the asian's auto designs has been relatively organic as of late. Maybe the only direction for them now is square ["retro"]. Maybe that's what chrysler did, didnt do to it to well at all, but maybe!

  5. This looks pretty good but not much different from the existing one. The doors on the side view look photochopped.

  6. Awful. Devoid of any inspiration whatsoever. They would do better to leave the old one in production

  7. it's not the "auto industry" being in a rot design wise. it's toyota. when is the last time toyota/lexus has designed anything worth getting a boner over??

  8. Has Toyota completely ceased any activity within their R&D department? The late 80s, early 90s 4 Runner was cool and it got progressively less cool since then. This completely sucks.

  9. Not impressed in the least.

Combine a boring design with Toyota's slipping quality and you have a real loser on your hands.

Did anyone see the article how Toyota's former legal officer is now filing suit against Toyota for withholding information for cases regarding rollovers? Pathetic.

  10. Wow. After all these years it took for us to see the next generation 4Runner, and this was the best design they could do?

  11. I don't like it. the only real change I see is the A pillars that came from the Scion XB, the tailights and they made the slanted c pillar skinny. The Antena is soooo out dated too. What does the inside look like now?

  12. I was at a Toyota dealership looking at the Rav4 when it just came out. I said there were things I liked about it but that backward swinging tailgate instead of a lifting tailgate was a real dealbreaker. The salesman said that a lot of people are too old to lift a tailgate and they like one that swings out. I said so that's your target market for your SUV's? People who are too old to lift a rear door. It looks like Grandpa would like this new 4runner too. Poor Toyota; if they keep this crap up they will get creamed.

  13. Vince, I couldn't agree more with your comments about this stale looking hunk of metal.

It seems both Toyota and Honda are following the same pruned, dried-out strategy of "down-designing" their latest vehicles.

What is happening here is that these two automakers believe they can manufacture and sell anything and U.S. consumer will just slurp it up since it has their badges smeared all over it.

And you know what? for the most part that's true BUT, they have not gained any new ground since the recession.

The only two auto brands, Kia and Hyundai have been selling metal and projected to have a combined market share of 7% in the U.S. and based on their latest model releases looks like they have found their design mojo where Toyota and Honda have lost theirs.

Seems a changing of the guard is in the offing.

  14. Maybe they are going back to the rugged look as what they are supposed to be. Instead of poofy designs from Kia and Hyundai.
If you want something for road use maybe buy a highlander.

  15. These pics are much better than the previous ones and do the new 4Runner justice. I actually like it, because it is an evolution of the 3rd gen 4Runner, which so many on this blog claim to love. I have owned BOTH 3rd and 4th gen Runners, and I wouldn't mind eventually owning this one, too. I hate the antenna, tho.

  16. This is Toyota's best design in a long time. The front is only a little wierd/childish and the back is……

  17. as a seller of a competitive brand, toyota always relieves the pressure with horrible styling.

  18. Hey

    I think it has been redesigned with current 4Runner owners in mind. I own a 2005 Sport Edition. I have also seen photos of the interior. I would have no issue getting this truck. It looks like what it is used for;
MTB, skiing, big dogs, camping, etc.

  19. I owned a new 89, and then later, a new 98.

Let's face it. Any SUV worth it's salt is a box on wheels. For me, it reminds me of the 98 version.

I like it for what it is-a 4wheel off road truck. Nothing more, and now, nothing less. I'll be getting one as soon as I can place an order.

The market is so small now for traditional SUVs it makes you wonder why they even bother.

98% of the people who buy a 4Runner will never even come close to 4/10ths of the vehicles ability for either off roading or towing.

Car based SUVs are a much better fit. If I had to chose, I'd buy a Pilot over the new 4Runner any day of the week.

How about in an off road contest.
The 4 runner will blow the pilot into the weeds.
The pilot would get stuck in a small mud puddle.

  22. This is a Toy for Boys only…keep driving your Pilot, Murano, MDX, RX, whatever wimpy SUV. If you're not a person who appreciates a tough-looking go anywhere-do anything SUV, then you won't appreciate this latest masterpiece from the mighty Toyota.

  23. So which SUV do you guys think look better, the Lexus GX or this?
I think the new Lexus GX looks better but not much.

  24. super rugged Macho look. Just diying to have one of these beasts in my garage.
    Kudos to Toyota.
I bet this will look way better in person then in pictures.
    Toyota all the wayyyyyyyyyyy

  25. Good question about the new GX vs 4Runner on looks. I think with this new generation, that Toyota/Lexus is intentionally creating more separation from the looks of the 4Runner vs the GX. The outgoing generation looks somewhat similar, but this latest Gen definitely separates the serious/layman off-roaders from the rich/status wannabe off-roaders. Both trucks are super-capable, tho.

  26. Yeah, I'd still rather have a Pilot.

At least it doesn't suck gas and is backed by a company that isn't producing crap products.

  27. Yes you can have a pilot so you cn do skids in a small puddle of mud.
Leave the 4 runner for the serious people.

  28. I am excited to the 4 runner when it makes it debut. I hope I can find the one I am looking for when the inventory is available.
