2012/13 VW Golf

Last Updated:

There is still time.
The “new one” isn’t even out in the US yet, an they are already testing mules for the next generation in Europe.
The lower picture comes from VW’s design dept, and the car could be the next Golf. Hard to say, they all look so similar…

  1. I'm bored with it already and it won't be out for 2 to 3 years here. Doesn't matter though, I would never buy another Volkswagen. Looking at the vehicles coming out from Hyundai, the new Fiesta, and with Fiat coming to the US, VW needs to step it up. This snails paced evolutionary styling is not going to get them very far ahead in the American market.

  2. I think this is a great new version of the Golf. VWs are never revolutionary but rather evolutionary in design. This is clean and handsome. I think it will do very well for them.

  3. Good design never goes out of style. I like the promise of the hint in the photo rather than the heavy-handed photoshop.

  4. The new one is actually here, my VW dealer has a new GTI. This might be the new Polo we get. Although those renderings are just the front of the latest roadster concept grafted onto a hatch body.

  5. I've owned a couple VW's and I would not hesitate to buy another one. And I think that this is a nice evolution of a good car. But it's a big mistake to have teaser pics out more than two years early. Why would I want an "old" 2010 Golf when VW is focusing my attention to this one?

  6. Make it look fresher or fiestaer? Some in Europe are predicting ford fiesta is going to knock the king off his thrown.

  7. That back end is hideous.

I owned one VW and it was enough for me.

VWs are junk and their dealer network is the absolute worst.

Whatever. I don't know about the dealer "network," as I'm sure you don't have a range for comparison either. But my dealer was really good. I've owned Toyotas, Hondas, Volvos, VWs and Fords. In my experience Toyota dealers are by far the most horrendous and ghetto. VWs are the most enjoyable cars to own. The most frustrating thing that I dealt with with my VW were the tales of inevitable problems that I was ensured I'd have, almost always by Toyota owners that seemed confused that I didn't just buy another Toyota or Lwxus. The breakdowns never occurred and now I'm driving an Audi today. I'm happy with my car. But if the unwashed masses all drove what I drive, I wouldn't want it.

  9. Looks sharp! (pun intended) Seriously, it's a nice update, but why so soon? We haven't even gotten MkVI yet!

    Good for you.

I had a 2005 A4 that was a piece of shit. It had numerous starting problems that left my wife and child stranded on multiple occasions. The dealer replaced the keys, and the ECU and still didn't solve the problem.

I assure you there are more VW horror stories than there are positive stories. Why do you think JD Power ranks them at almost the bottom?
