More pictures of the real thing.
So far, this is the Korean version.
We might see small trim differences once it gets over here next year.

  1. I'm really surprised at this car- It looks just so dated. Not modern at all. The front is so reminiscent of and old Toyota Solara. With all of the hype Hyundai has been generating lately, I was hoping for more of a modern statement.

  2. Still with the gated shifter! It looks butt ugly in the Genesis and it looks just as pretty in the Sonata. When will car companies learn to stop making these ugly shifters?

Acura got smart and changed their gated shifter in the TSX and TL when they updated the models for the 2009 model year. Hyundai should copy them on this and make a nice, Acura-like shifter.

  3. People bitch about aping designs from other companies.. It is called inspiration and Toyota certain isn't known for originality.

Maybe this looks like a confused Solara or Passat CC but i'm sure it will not drive like an oversteered soap box like every Toyota does nor suffer the electrical woes of VW.

Now for the interior of this car, it's just damn sexy!

  4. This car will be the best looking in it's class. Other than the grille which looks too heavy and fussy, the lines are beautiful. The interior is better looking than a Lexus. The Japanese (with the exception of Mazda and Infiniti) should take notice and step up their game.

  5. It really pisses me off when people say this looks like a Solara just because of the sweeping front headlamps and front 10.

Nearly EVERY SINGLE MANUFACTURER shares design cues from other vehicles. There is NO SUCH THING as a completely original design anymore.

If you knew anything about design you would shut your mouth.

  6. Honestly, I'm not a Hyundai fan or family sedan fan, but this thing looks amazing to me. No other car in its class comes close!

  7. i think it looks quite good-i think it will play in it's segment quite well. i'm not sure what people are expecting. owning an Infiniti, i find the Infiniti-inspired center stack beautiful! when you look at all the other cars in this class, i don't see how anyone can call this car dated. avant garde design is not appreciated in this price class/segment. i'd rather see them play this card that strike out with some post-modern design that only 'experts' find attractive.

  8. It'll be a perfectly fine generic car for people who buy generic cars. No matter how derivative and unsexy this car is to me, it will appeal to the masses.

  9. solara all the way baby, what a mess, even stupid toyota stopped making that ugly useless dud of a car, all hail the defunct solara now reborn in an even worse brand.

  10. It works. (The styling , I mean) …unlike some of the atrocities from Lexus, Dodge, Acura & Honda. What the Japanese were to the 1980's, the Koreans are to the new millenia.

  11. Overall, I really love the car. I think it looks fresh and upscale, get used to seeing a lot of these on the road.

But as a current Infiniti owner, I'm offended that they copied the centre stack from the G37.

  12. WOW! This looks better than I thought it would. The grill is still big but it's kinda not that noticable with all the nice sculpted lines on the front end. Great job Hyundai!

  13. The best thing about this new Sonata is that everywhere on the web where pics of this vehicle have been posted, the comments are running 3 to 1 in favor of the car unlike the ill fated Honda Crosstour's photo debut.

Toyota's playing it "safe" designs and Honda's awkward, regressive looking sheetmetal, makes the all new redesigned Sonata a more intelligent choice for value and quality conscious consumers.

Regardless of whether you love or hate the design of the new 2011 Hyundai Sonata, this vehicle is going to be a very strong seller for Hyundai.

  14. Nissan interior is nice but un-original and the Gillette grill is over the top. For it's price this will give the Camry a run for its money although i would much rather drive a new Taurus

  15. I think this thing looks fantastic.

I don't see a Solara anywhere in this design except for the sweeping headlamps which MANY vehicles have now.

Automotive design takes another giant step backwards.

    OTOH, the interior looks nice.

Vince, these three commenters are all the same people. Can't you stop stuff like this?

  16. These guys are on a roll. They are coming up with more attractive designs than either Toyota or Honda. Hm….

    Yeah. Way to aim low.

  18. "Nissan interior is nice but un-original and the Gillette grill is over the top. (Didn't buy it cause I'm on the road a lot and have allergies and refuse to buy anything without air filtration. That was the ONLY reason I didn't. Mabey I can get a friend to buy one and borrow it now & then.) I may wind up with a Genesis.
