Cars we don’t need for 2010: MErcury Montaineer

Last Updated:

Really….
This is the 2010. Most people don’t even know that one is still being produced. How many can they be selling?
A retro car in a very bad way…

  1. WOW!!! That's APPALLING!!! I had no idea they were still making this….thing. In fact I was trying to forget about it and almost succeeded until now. Thanks a lot Vince:) Man that thing is HIDEOUS! This thing is'nt going to help Fords profit margin. Infact I believe it could single handedly wipe it out:) ….if they had a profit margin that is.

  2. Vince, you're really starting to sound like a 'bully' at times.

    Tho you might enjoy picking on various vehicles/Brands;
remember the Mountaineer's platform-mate – the Explorer – is well-liked enough that it's unibody replacement is a major topic of discussion/contention with SUV fans…

…whatever Merc** may or may not get in the NEAR Future,
Fomoco's "bit nicer" Brand has TONS of Potential!!!

    ** note:
"MERC" is an All American Brand – one of the highest rated for dependability and dealer satisfaction
    (&
has nothing to do with "MB", who raped, pillaged, & sold Chrysler into slavery)

  3. I don't like it. But it's no better or worse than any other SUV on the market. I consider other bland mainstream SUVs like the Highlander and the Pilot just the same… kinda dumb.

  4. ya know…
I rather *like* that steering wheel

in fact that pic of the interior looks pretty darn good 🙂

  5. BUT on the other hand, toyota is still making that crap-tastic 4Runner.

At least Toyota have a new 4runner coming out shortly.
Ford are flogging a dead horse with this one.

  6. I have THREE co-workers who drive them, one of which also has an Explorer, and all say and concur that the Moutaineer is just better than the Explorer despite being identical. It's all about the look, the price/standards/options, etc. Complete badge engineering, but for the time being, it's like Ford's Yukon-Tahoe…

  7. I agree. As good-looking as it is; the ride is almost as rough as a Toyota Sequia. Sure, it may sell better than the Sequoia or Four Runner (yes, both are still in production) but the days are numbered for all of these 1990's body-on-frame truckettes.

  8. Here is looking on the bright side of things……at least ford is concentrating on the important things for its future, namely Ka, Fiesta, Focus, Kuga………..

The Mountaineer has different suspension tuning and slightly retuned steering. It also has higher quality leather and some other features that set it apart. It isn't a total badge engineered vehicle since there are some differences.

Ford's Yukon/Tahoe? Don't you mean GM? If you don't know, then just give up.

  10. Mercury needs to go away. Ford is in no positions for an entire division of badge engineered cars.

yada yada KEEL MERC yada yada…

Mercury is on short shrift at the mo,
    but
    when the Eekonomy improves,
MERC will be a KEY Player in picking up the neo-wealthier shoppers!
    &
that^ isn't all that far off anymore!!!

  12. The Mountaineer will likely be dropped when the Explorer is redesigned – so, if you still care, get yours soon. Like Pontiac.
