R.I.P

Last Updated:

All these models have been recently killed.
And that’s on top of everything Pontiac and saturn make.

GM says the Corvette is safe. But what else will go away before the dust settles?

Any idea? Bets?

  1. Let’s clarify a bit, the “regular” versions of the STS, Impala and Cobalt will still be around for 2010. At least.
They only killed toe STS V, and SS versions of the Impala and Cobalt sedan.

  2. The Cobalt should be the first on the chopping block since it is as old as the last generation Saturn ion and sucks just as bad!

  3. Weird, because half the Cobalts I see on the road are SS models. I can see cutting the STS-V and Impala SS though (for now).

I knew the Viper was close to death…but I just didn’t know it would be so soon, just as the 2010 ACR was revealed.

  4. I only saw one STS-V on the road anyway. It was a joke of a performance vehicle. Anyone who bought one over an M5 or a E55/63 is an idiot.

The Cobalt SS sedan was great, aside from everything that is Cobalt (interior, body panels, etc). GM did a great job on the SS and I would have killed the coupe first. This is every white trash redneck kids dream!

The Impala SS was a joke as well. Went fast in a straight line and had a terrible interior and no handling prowess whatsoever.

I’ve always hated the Viper, couldn’t care less.

  5. The crapbalt is going away sort of, they are changing the name to Cruze. It will be just as ugly and outdated as the crapbalt was when it was released.

The only difference is that the Cruze is going to be built offshore and will rollout of a daewoo factory.

  7. Any car with one of those ugly and useless wing things on the trunk lid deserves to be discontinued. No car looks anything but stupid with a wing, style-spoiler, or whatever that thing is supposed to be.

You’d have to drive at least 125 MPH for a wing to do any good for aerodynamics if that’s the issue. Yeah, a Cobalt regularly cruises at 125 MPH!

Over-styled wheels don’t help, either. Flashy wheels on a Cobalt or Impala look out of place.

Gingerbreading a CTS is a bad idea because the CTS is a handsome car that’s ruined if made to look like a car for teen agers.

  8. The Cruze is being built in at the same Lordstown plant that currently builds the Cobalt. The engine is coming out of Europe for now.

The Cruze is built in Korea too but those built in Korea are for sale in Korea, where it is sold as the Daewoo Lacetti Premiere. None of those cars are being imported to the US.

It is the Chevy Spark that is being built by Daewoo for export to the US. However it is expected that about half of those built are going to also be sold in Korea.

Hey Vince, looks like the Chevy HHR SS got the ax too. I’m not surprised that this or the Cobalt SS are being killed off. The Soltice GXP and Sky Redline use the same engine. It looks to me like there just isn’t enough product to justify the existence of that engine. It is too bad too. That 260hp turbo four still gets 29mpg in the HHR.

    More like the Silverado SS…

  10. And therein lies the problem with taking the Federal Government’s money and therefore having to pander to their econocar desires. The Cobalt SS has been regarded by all of the major automotive magazines as the best bang for the buck at its price point. And now it’s gone. Must we all drive Priuses? When the dust does settle on all of this, they will find the rotting carcass of every car lover in America, as we’re left to choose between re-badged Fiats, Chinese Buicks, and turbo-4 Mustangs. From here on out, they’re all just… transportation.

  11. this is a shameless showing of all the garbage that was sold to unwitting sheep. They were told buy American, be patriotic, support your country, to the point of embarassing people who didn’t. They wanted all americans to commit their hard earned cash to buy crapola garbage and they gave you nothing in return for your loyalty other than heartache! Junk is junk and every american car maker will die soon.

  12. The STS is due for a replacement with an interior that can actually fit four American adults. How is it the Chinese get the longer wheelbase and we don’t?

Time for something different with the Viper. Same basic design from the 1989 concept won’t cut it the next decade.
