Next Opel Astra Coupe

Last Updated:

Even though it is just an optimistic sketch, it looks like the next Astra coupe will be quite a looker.
The current version already looks great.

I just hope GM finds a way to bring this over here.
It would make a great small Pontiac coupe, if the brand is still around when the car comes out.

There is a rumor that GM might be forced to become a 3 brand company. With Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC being the only ones left.
If that is the case, they need to build the next Astra over here (just like Ford is doing with the next Focus), and replace the aging Cobalt with it.

  1. I agree with that last comment if they are reduced to only three brands. I like the astra a lot more than I like the cruze. Maybe im the only one, but I hate its rear.

I think the best move (if they keep buick) is to make the astra an entree level one. It would be a great golf, rabbit fighter, and it would give us young people something from that brand that we woiuldnt mind driving.

  2. These sketches are so out of touch. They are always aggressive looking and raise expectations for designs that eventually look nothing more than ordinary.

  3. This car looks awesome! It would be a great addition in the US. As far as the 3 brand thing goes, I think they should go down to 2. Chevy and Caddy. Why do they insist on keeping GMC? It’s redundant and they don’t need it and it’s a waste of money. The only way I can see GMC continuing is if it had all the trucks and Chevy had none. Otherwise they don’t need GMC.

  4. GM should have become a two brand company 10 years ago. Instead, they wasted time and money trying to push the 60’s sales model of rebadging everything to death without making any profit. I feel terrible for the thousands of GM employees that will be effected by the upcoming bankrupcy. As far as I am concerned GM no longer exists and I would never consider another GM even if they do pull through, RIP GM….too little, too late!

  5. As much as I want to see Buick go, I really hope they would bring Opels over here under buick. I just dont see the point of GMC, why are they so desperate to hang on to that brand if every truck is already duplicated at chevrolet?

General Motors have made some bad decisions but what car company hasn't. Rebadging for GM was a cost effective measure…I personally hated it, but it saved mooney than having to create new platforms that costs hundreds of millions of dollars. GM a two car brand. NO!

They made a good decision killing off Oldsmobile.

    >>>Chevrolet. It's an American Classic you can't get rid of it. Out of all of the General Motor brands it should have the most offerings/products.

    >>>Hummer was a good idea at the time, and still would be if they could give it great gas mileage. Americans still love size, its just the got damn gas consumption!!!

    >>>Saturn was creative, and was getting much better with the imported Opel products and a perfect basis for this new small car trend.

    >>>Geo (GM/Toyota) could have stayed around, a perfect answer to Toyota's Scion Brand or either a Green car brand….hell, it sounds earthy!

    >>>Pontiac could have become a niche brand along time ago…they had way too many clones of Chevy models.

    >>>GMC…was always useless in my eyesight just do Chevy trucks, and create a package thats more extravagant.

    >>>Cadillac should have been pushed to the leagues of true luxury such as Mercedes, Jaguar, Audi and BMW.

    >>>This would have made Buick a great brand to compete in the near luxury category like Acura, Lincoln, Volvo and Infiniti. Instead they badged Buick as an American Lexus (LOL) not even close at the time. All the the Enclave and 2010 LaCrosse gives it a fighting chance at that title.

So GM become a 2 brand company unh unh! GM was always know for its diversity. It wasn't the number of models that made GM go down the crapper it was the management the the quality, which has gotten better and the over producing of vehicles.

True and it is profitable, keep it.

    >>>Hummer was a good idea at the time, and still would be if they could give it great gas mileage. Americans still love size, its just the got damn gas consumption!!!

Can't give them away anymore, couldn't sell it either. Kill it and put it out of it's misery.

    >>>Saturn was creative, and was getting much better with the imported Opel products and a perfect basis for this new small car trend.

WAS creative but unprofitable, Unfortunately the cars are no more reliable than previous models and are as expensive or more than Honda or Toyota…their target competitor…..pull the plug, the patient is braindead.

    >>>Geo (GM/Toyota) could have stayed around, a perfect answer to Toyota's Scion Brand or either a Green car brand….hell, it sounds earthy!

Bad move, GM could have made it work…I agree….yet another bad business decision…next!

    >>>Pontiac could have become a niche brand along time ago…they had way too many clones of Chevy models.

Pontiac died years ago, no one told GM. The G8 is a decent vehicle but no one cares anymore. How many have you seen on the street? Too late….

    >>>GMC…was always useless in my eyesight just do Chevy trucks, and create a package thats more extravagant.

A pointless brand, all rebadges and all could do just as well as Chevy's. Kill it.

    >>>Cadillac should have been pushed to the leagues of true luxury such as Mercedes, Jaguar, Audi and BMW.

It does compete with those brands and is still sucessful. Worth keeping.

    >>>This would have made Buick a great brand to compete in the near luxury category like Acura, Lincoln, Volvo and Infiniti.

Buick is unprofitable and sales have been skidding even with new models. Not worth keeping.

Tally: 2 brands….you still can't add. Not that it matters that much, most of the company will be liquidated in the next year. Go America!
