Acura ZDX

Last Updated:

Acura says this is based on the MDX.
But it looks pretty small to me. And with this interior, it looks almost like a hatch version of the smaller TSX.
It does look pretty nice.
Let’s hope they don’t price it too high.
This should be priced in between the TSX and TL.
But somehow, I think they’ll charge us more than the TL for it…

  1. Hmmm.. It almost seems restrained from what I’ve come to expect from Honcura. The front isn’t overtly heinous. In fact, it’s tastefully reminiscent of the CX-9 only with edges.

I’m perplexed at the hip-dysplasia theme for the rear flank though. Looks somewhat like an aging arthritic cat.

  2. The dash and stack look a load better than the current Acura/Honda mess. Still, even if the outside is okay, that stupid beak on the front of this and every new Acura will send me walking to any other manufacturer every time. I have to see that every day when my garage opens, and I have no desire to cringe every day when I see my car. Since the rest of Honda’s line-up is ugly, they are simply off the list.

  3. Yaaaaaaaaaawn. If I’m ever in the market for an ugly little hatchback that looks like it’ll barely seat 4 maybe I’ll give this eyesore a look.

  4. Wowwww!!!

That is a LOT nicer than I expected!!! If it has that SH-AWD system it will perform well too!

Vince, this is supposed to be a range topper from what I hear, so expect it to be priced as such.

  5. wow what a blatant rip off of the BMW. I really love the bimmer, you would think Acura was a chinese company cosidering this copy.

  6. Okay I can see this sporty CUV will get some haters. But in all honesty this is really nice. I might be partial because I own an BMW X6 and I love it my only issue is that it just seats four.

This car will appeal to those who love sports cars, but need a bit of utility space so its not for everybody. I hope this market segment grows beyond BMW and Acura to brands like Audi, Cadillac, Landrover, and Volvo. This segment could be interesting.

This has to grow on you. When I first saw the BMW X6 online I was like what the f***! Went to the dealer with the intent of buying an X5, saw the X6 standing next to it….and it was so awesome in person.

The moral of the story don’t judge by internet or magazine see it in public then make that decision.

  7. If it’s meant to compete with the X6, why would they price it below the TL? I would imagine it would be a little less than the MDX, and quite a bit more than the RDX.

But, in these hard economic times, what makes them think they can sell an SUV Coupe?

  8. Acura didn’t say it was based on the MDX, did they? It’s not in the press release. Exterior dimensions are similar but that’s where it ends I think. Cargo space is much smaller.

Seems almost everyone guessed this was X6 competition but it turned out to be rather an A7 sportback model.

  9. Yep, it’ll be more than the TL…probably more than 300 hp, but I don’t know. Acura’s market research people might be going the Infiniti route: make it expensive so people think it’s exclusive. They’ve convinced themselves that’s the lesson of the old Q45s…all that lux + tech for “only $52,000” makes it seem like a cheap car, they say. Even the Acura RDX seems steep in this economy – a tarted up Honda for $39,000? Puh-leeze. I’d rather have a two-year-old Lexus.

  10. Kind of silly because the style defeats much of the purpose of a lift-back.

OK, this Acura is certainly a good car as are all Hondas and Acuras. But the tear-drop roof design limits interior space and makes rear visibility nearly blind.

When you think about it, the ZDX is sleek, but stupid.

  11. I don’t care what any one says, if you don’t like Acura say it, but there is nothing in here that will make it look like an X6copy clone. So give credit to Acura. If it were Lexus, they would have xeroxed the X6. So please get off the nasty Kool-Aid, that ain’t no X6 look alike.

  12. I remember reading it as above the mdx – toe to toe with the x6. No matter. It looks like a bitched up Chrysler Crossfire. No diesel engines, but we get this thing. Oh Acura, is this really the best you can do??

  13. I checked it out in the Acura site. Reminds me a bit of the Accord coupe. The grille may end up being a drag. Too bad, because otherwise it is above average.

  14. Even the Acura RDX seems steep in this economy – a tarted up Honda for $39,000? Puh-leeze. I’d rather have a two-year-old Lexus.

…so you’d rather have a two year old tarted up Toyota instead of a new tarted up Honda….

  15. Fugly! Why even bother comparing it or say Acura’s copying the BMW X6? It’s a redo of the Pontiac Aztek, it’s hideous!

  16. This is just the 1st stage of new and upcoming reaccuring crossovers from Honda. Rumor has it that the next generation CR-V and RDX will also more closely resemble a hatchback/hybrid as well as a smaller Accord based wagon/hatchback style platform to fit in between the CR-V and the Pilot. If all goes well, Honda plans on selling a Hybrid CR-V in 2012, so this design would make for a more fuel efficient aerodynamic platform.

  17. Images deceive.
This car’s 78.2″ wide, same as the MDX.
192.4″ long, longer than the MDX.

Interior is pretty much unchanged, which means 61.6″ wide inside.

    This coupe-over is really big.

  18. Check out the rear split half glass window Vince. It sure looks like a Hybrid is just around the corner for Acura here. They really need one if they expect to stay in business for the next decade.

  19. I really like this and I HATE the X6. Just because someone comes out with a similar vehicle doesn’t mean they copied anyone.

Chinese make clones, this is not a clone.

I’d rather have the RDX than ANY Lexus other than the LS with the sport package.

  20. is Skoda still making cars? this may harken back to the 80’s as a retro Skoda Dance Party, What? anyhoo…..honda and acura really suck. Acura’s grills are a joke.

  21. All of you are morons. It is not to compete with the X6… more like Infiniti EX35, Mercedes GLK, Volvo XC60 and maybe even the Audi Q5.

Seriously, you are calling us idiots when the Acura RDX is direct competition to each of those vehicles you listed?

    YOU, sir, are the moron.

Acura already stated that this is going to be priced higher than the MDX, how would it compete with any of those vehicles you mentioned in any category???

  23. Why didn’t they just design and produce a sleek 4 door sedan? What’s the point in having a hatchback with no cargo room?

    Is this guy serious?

I want to scream RDX in his face…

    BTW the Q5 is awful.

Hey Bozo, did you forget that the RDX is the one competing with the models you mentioned? The X6 comes up simply because of design similarities. Acura will never match the performance numbers of the X6.

Maybe not in acceleration but I’d say it will handle as well…

  27. when I first saw the X6, there was something badly familiar. With the reveal of this..it hit me..cause ya know the AMC Eagle was such a hit, we need a designer imposter.
