2010 Kia Sorento Interior

It looks pretty nice.
And upscale.

If they have a decent 4 cylinder to put in there, it could be good competition to the RAV4 and CRV crowd. But it still needs to be quite a bit cheaper.
Most buyers aren’t ashamed of getting a CRV. I know a few people who have them and rave about them.
But most will still have to explain to their friends and neighbors why they bought a Kia.
It might be wrong, sad, unfair. But it’s true.

They still need to be quite a bit cheaper than the competition to sell. Even if the quality is up.

  1. This Kia looks absolutely fantastic. This is definitely the top model though and would be more money than even the top spec CR-V.

Would I buy it over a CR-V? Probably not. I have a 2003 CR-V EX myself with over 145,000 miles and not a single problem to speak of. My last CR-V had over 230,000 miles and was bulletproof.

There is a really good reason why the CR-V is America’s best selling SUV.

  2. junk is junk, yup, you can buy nissan quality for the same price as most Kias. let’s be honest with each other here.

  3. after seeing the crash tests of the last kia suv, i’d like to see how this one fares. Don’t see them improving as fast as they should for crash tests!

  4. What you said about the brandname issue Vince is so true. This weekend I helped a friend on a tight budget buy a Kia Rondo at CarMax. She ended up returning it the next day, not because it wasn’t a great car at a great price, but because she couldn’t deal with the fact that it was a Kia. It it was a Honda Rondo or Toyota Rondo, she would have loved it. This is probably a typical irrational response to the brand.

  5. Yeah, I wouldn’t want to sit in the middle of that rear seat. Those hinges look like they’re designed to keep the seatbelts from cutting into the seat fabric in a rather clumsy way. Otherwise, though, the interior “looks” nice. But how does it feel?

The problem is not that Kia cars aren’t nice. It’s just that Honda and Toyota were doing this stuff ages ago. I noticed this after owning a Subaru (yes, Subaru of the vaunted AWD system and good quality and awards and boxer engines…) and then driving my friend’s ten year old Honda.

People constantly reassure themselves when they’re in their cars out on the road – especially the insecure folks who “need” to feel validated in some way by their vehicular significance. That’s why brand identity means so much to car companies (and why the Ford Edsel…and Ford Five Hundred failed!). If an idea looks good on paper they can’t just go and do it. But the usual market-research practice, consumer clinics, can get it wrong too. This car was surely “clinicked” – witness the 1998 Lexus RX/2002 Nissan center stack, and the Nissanesque gauge cluster. We see the same thing with the Kia Borrego – if they want to do this for $6,000 under the big guys, they need to watch everyone carefully and then copy them five years later.

I guarantee you that thw 2015 Kias will resemble the current trend of awfulness exemplified by 2002-2007 BMWs.

Nissan quality??? You better check your latest consumer reports… Their products don’t exactly have a sterling reputation buddy.

All of their SUVs do relatively well, I don’t know what you are talking about. Might want to check the IIHS facts.

OK….but why would I want to buy a Nissan when they are also considerd below avg as well?

dual sunroof a copy ( 100%) of nissan Maxima and Murano, shameless I teel ya!”

Do you realize that almost every single manufacturer has their OWN models with dual sunroofs?

Nissan certainly wasn’t the first with dual sunroofs, and certainly weren’t the first to make them popular.

What an ignorant comment. Typical Nissan fanboy.

  9. I would buy a Kia over a Nissan. Why well, first, I don’t want a Nissan Altima, Murano nor Maxima when everyone is driving the same car. If I bought a VG or this I would get more attention meaning I pay about the same price but I’ll get attention. I know this after I purchased my 2004 Kia Optima back in fall of 2003. At the gas station I was getting lots of attention and people just couldn’t believe it was a Kia. That’s why.

  10. i have a crv too and i absolutely love it to death. 2002 and it has been across the country with me three times now and never a single problem.

would i buy this over a crv? i don’t know, this looks pretty good. id probably stick to honda though. from alaska to virginia in that car was amazing.
