Ford/Lincoln “Active Park Assist”video

Last Updated:

Is this really what driving in the 21st century has become?
I mean, this is pretty impressive technology, but it is really sad at the same time.
Was anyone asking for this?

Really… If you can’t park a car, you shouldn’t be driving one….

  1. “Really… If you can’t park a car, you shouldn’t be driving one….”

THANK YOU! My sentiments exactly! I feel like this is training people to depend too much on computers to do the work for them. It’s kind of like going to Walmart and seeing all the overweight people on those scooters when they can walk just fine–they’re just lazy.

  2. MAybe if it is a MACK truck or a Boeing 747, I would find this application more practical, otherwise it is another useless gimmick like headlight washers.

A deer horn is more practical because it is cheap and save animals(even in urban areas) and the hood of your car.

  3. Should we not have power steering either? Only girly-man use power steering!

Ford just cannot win. They get slammed for not staying up with the competition in technology and when they do something that is actually USEFUL to some people, you slam it more.

  4. Douchbag,

Your comment did not make any sense. I tried to decode your message, but the only thing I can come up with is that you were trying to say a big U.S. company lead the way..Which is wrong; BMW Lexus, VW have the system already. Except Lexus was the first one to mass produce it on the ne LS.

So no U.S. company lead anthing, but your uninformed imagination.

  5. My nephew flunk his drivers test twice because he couldn’t parallel park!!!LOL Do you think I should buy this and let him use this car for the test? I guess I would have to disable the alert system so the tester wouldn’t catch on!!!

  6. can believe people are complaining about this like they are forcing you to buy it its an option for people who would like to have it…its a great piece of technology….dont diss because u guys wouldnt use it….if u dont like it dont comment on it…i personally wouldnt mind having it on my car….theres certain situation when u would definetly need such things to help u park

No, that’s not the case. Ford gets slammed because they keep coming out with and building huge cars that take huge gulps of fuel. They’re doing better than the other two companies, though, because they wised up quicker with the Focus and the upcoming Fiesta. The US companies did not do anything when trends were clearly leaning toward people buying more efficient cars, whereas Honda, Toyota and Nissan recognized it right away and brought over the Fit, Yaris and Versa (respectively.) Ford finally did recognize it and is bringing over the Fiesta and I hope it’s not too late for them.

  8. It’s a Lincoln, so it really should have every gadget you can think of.

On top of that, the average (nearly dead) Lincoln driver can probably use some help parallel parking, especially if I am in the long line of trafic behind them.

  9. Punchbag Jones is wrong again. Toyota has this system back in the Prius day (for Japan only) and then market it in the US for the Lexus.

someone said ‘headlight washers are useless’ must not live in the snowy states. It is godsend to be able to wash the headlights to rid of the road salts.

  10. Why are you slamming a Ford, when the Asians and Germany have already had this for years?

WHY is it only US companies always get slammed but foriegn gets a free pass?

  11. Kudos to Ford ….they are positioning lincoln as technology based american luxury. Very cool. Thats what its all about. And as far as it being too much technology? are u kidding me?….u guys are showing your age if you think this is too much..this is just the beginning….have you played with a Wii system lately? uhh, didnt think so. Ford will survive…..cant say the same for GM or Chrysler.

  12. I don’t have a problem with them coming out with this. Sometimes you rent an SUV and have never driven one before. No reason for the guy parked on the street to have to pay for you not knowing the rental SUVs dimensions.

  13. It may be useful, it may not be. But for Ford to be considered a leader in auto design, it needs to match the competition gadget for gadget, as well as matching them on quality and design.

  14. “WHY is it only US companies always get slammed but foriegn gets a free pass?”

Lexus was also criticized about the usefulness of such a complexed option in the LS. Especially once their self parking system proved to be prone to failure in many situations.
