Alan Mulally drives a Hybrid Escape to Congress

Last Updated:

No more private jets.
I guess the Fusion Hybrid isn’t ready yet to make the 500 miles trip to DC. Or it might have been seen as an advertising for the car.
And spending over 8 hours in an Escape might really help him decide to bring the Euro Kuga over here…

Mulally will be talking about switching US production from Trucks to Euro Fords. Which they have already started.
But also about the upcoming all electric version of the small Ford Transit commercial van. As well as a new All electric sedan.
All these coming out within the next 2 years.
Plus, he just cut his salary down to $1.
Looks like Ford is taking this very seriously and has a good proposal for this week’s hearing.

I wonder what the suits from GM and Chrysler will drive….

  1. I’ve been saying this since the whole debacle started, but I think out of the big 3, Ford will be the one most likely to come out alive and breathing. They have already started to slow down production of their gas guzzlers and bring over their smaller European cars (Ka, for example) before all this began. I’m not too optimistic about GM, they’re so far in the hole it’d take a miracle for them to come out intact. And Chrysler? Yeah, I don’t think anyone should get attached to that brand.

  2. He already showed up to one of the Congressional Hearings in a fusion Hybrid. I guess this will show Congress that Ford has more than just one real Hybrid unlike GM and Chrysler.

  3. Since nobody is going to buy those little cars these guys are going to be sucking the taxpayer tit forever. Only stupid people pay taxes.

  4. Who cares what the hell they drive to the hearings??!?? Once our tax money is sunk into these UAW controlled, failing businesses the executives will just start using their private jets again. They should give them one more loan each and tell them that they better use it wisely and just let them go bankrupt if they cant do better.

  5. The F-Series and the Escape are the only cars Ford makes that are selling right now. The salary is bogus cause they have a couple million shares of stock that if/when this ‘loan’ is approved will net these execs about 20 million dollars in stock gains as their stock price skyrockets.

  6. Yeah…Taxpayers and voters are about the most stupidest animals on the planet…like dodo birds or willing slaves.

  7. Agree w/ Craig, Ford seems like it has the greatest chance to survive. And hey, Mulally’s following in Lido’s footsteps!

I don’t have a problem with their having jets, it makes the trip faster. But, maybe they could jet-pool…

Ford, bring us those Euro DIESELS, god damn you. I want my diesel Ranger.

  8. I guess we can see a Chrysler Aspen hybrid and an Escalade hybrid, heh. lol.

the uaw needs to be kept under control. i am all for the union but when it gets too powerful and greedy, it is the problem.

now, why didn’t they not carpool together? they could have cut half the resource used for this odyssey.

  9. re organize in bankruptcy is the answer to their problems. Although the ford family will forever loose their control

  10. Ford and GM are selling off their jets.

Guess what, it’s meaningless. They’ll just start chartering jets in the future.

As for Red Ink Rick, he said today that he’s going to drive a Malibu Hybrid.

  11. But the corporate jets are symbols.

It’s ok for senior management to use them, or buy a share in a Gulfstream. Or send the kids to Paris to shop for prom dresses in them. But dammit, don’t take the jet to Washington. The chattering classes just won’t have it.

Things will continue as usual after a few months to a year. The $1 salary is just a temporary appeasement measure to keep things moving. My grandfather is a corporate exec; he lives in a totally insulated, protected, wallpapered-and-perfumed bizarro world. It’s really like another planet.

It seems ridiculous how Congress actually expects the CEOs of these companies to make personal changes in their lives that are supposed to affect their companies…it doesn’t work like that. It’s a nice gesture for the media, but these people really do take great pains to afford a level of privacy and security never before seen in history. If (and some say ‘when’) things get really-really-bad, and the educated unemployed get really desperate, I am certain of one thing: the 1% will have barricaded themselves into ‘Richistan’, then they will clap their hands and change the channel.

People like Alan Mulally just do their jobs. The ones who really do something…are the ones we need to help out.

  12. “But, maybe they could jet-pool…”

The parasites in DC would probably throw them in a cage for ‘price fixing’ or collusion.

  13. Ford is the only solvent one of the bunch and is asking for $9billion in loans be made available to them if they need it down the road. They’re good on cash through 2009. GMs plan is out now…..they are looking for $18 billion in loans! of which they need $4 billion by the end of this month to stay in operations. In their plan they are selling Hummer, SAAB, Saturn, and downsizing Pontiac to a “niche” vehicle..whatever that means…and just focusing on Chevy, Cadillac, GMC and Buick. Buick?? Maybe in China as a rebadged Chevy? but in the US? Anyway, GMC is in baaaaad shape. Cant wait to hear Chryslers plan.

  14. im goin to comment here because as of yet you dont have a post about GM… I just heard on the radio that their new plan is to focus on Chevy, Buick, Cadillac, and GMC… WHat the hell… GMC?!?!? yes this is a great time to focus on a brand that ONLY sells trucks.. rebadged trucks at that…. kill GMC, there is nothing there that is not offered already by Chevrolet… And what about Pontiac?? there just goin to let it die? pontiac has enough of its own personality to sustain itself… saturn unfortunatly does not… dont get me wrong they have done an amazing job of turning itself around and gettin great products out there.. but there just is not enough to differentiate itself from other GM brands… Kepp pontiac… get rid of GMC

  15. So, the guy will drive a hybrid on the freeway, where it gets worse mileage, eh?

Also, a $1 salary is pretty meaningless when he still receives millions in compensation and a golden parachute.

  16. “Anyway, GMC is in baaaaad shape.”

GMC is their most profitable brand and sell second only to Chevrolet…Is that what you call bad?

  17. Driving is going to eat up 20 hours of his highly valuable time…It is cheaper to take a private jet at $1500 per hour.

    Do the frickin math!

  18. “Yeah…Taxpayers and voters are about the most stupidest animals on the planet…like dodo birds or willing slaves.”

Possibly true but they are the ones with the credit cards and chequebooks!!
I bet you are a taxpayer!!

  19. “Anyway, GMC is in baaaaad shape.”

GMC is their most profitable brand and sell second only to Chevrolet…Is that what you call bad?

YES, I meant GMC, as in General Motors Corporation, not GMC trucks. $4 billion by the end of the month baaaaad.

  20. Got to appease the little people before you can rob them of $34B…Taxpayers/voters are retarded.

  21. “It’s ok for senior management to use them, or buy a share in a Gulfstream. Or send the kids to Paris to shop for prom dresses in them. But dammit, don’t take the jet to Washington. The chattering classes just won’t have it.”

On a similar note, it is okay for your poor kids to attend the worst dc public schools in the nation becuase i will not support school vouchers but my kids will attend the most expensive school in the area (sidwell friends) for $28k per kid to be with my vice-presidents’ grandkids.
