2008 Focus video

Last Updated:

From one of the guys who knows it best, Ford chief engineer Marcio Alfonso.
Watch him describe the “European styling” and describing the 2 door model for the “More youger buyer”.

You would think a big company like Ford could find a more interesting guy for their promo. Or at least someone who’s awake…
Amazingly boring video about one of the blandest car on the market.

And watch: still no rear headrests! In 2008!

If you want, you can place the computer next to your bed, watch this and fall asleep pronto.
Or if you’re that lucky, place your brand new iPod touch on your pillow.

  1. Oh Boy jones is putting his 2 cents in again…

The car is not bad, but why can’t we just have the other Europeans provide us with their design from across the pond instead of Alfanso.
I did watch this on my new I pod touch by the way…

  2. nobody need s headrest in the back
we didn’t have these in the 70 s and cars were safe back then
most cars on the road were good old us cars
safe. solid and good looking with class
head rest block the view anyway they are proven to be not safe
ford is is right again we’ ll see the end of that
n but this cannot be the all of it
    be it oanu

  3. ahh umm ahhh umm we have a ahhh high mounted brake lite umm that is ahh lower than the ahhh normal tailamps ahhh ummm so if ahhh your 2 or ahhh 3 cars back ahhh you wont see ahhh it..

  4. The more I see this car, the uglier it gets?

Euorpean Styling–Where??? Am I missing something?

And the all-metal dashboard–what the hell are they thinking there???

It’s funny that they have the Chief Engineer to describe the car’s styling, not the Chief Designer. This is probably why this car is so fugly…

  5. Vince – instead of worrying about the lack of headrests, your energies might be better spent on the lack of a popcorn maker in the trunk.

  6. …sometimes I really wonder if Ford America is just ignorant or has some greater vision in mind. They spend all that money on this car that looks… well like something from 1970s Popular Mechanics car pages, instead of just listening to the public and automotive press and bringing the Euro (actually world) Focus to this country. Apparently Ford believes we still like a lot of chrome on our plastic door handles. Unbelievable Ford has the guts to present this as a brown new model. Embracing! Ford stick to F150, and leave the small cars to people who know them best.

  8. Ford should just close down their NA operations, take what chips they have left and go abroad. They obviously don’t care about us. Even GM finally caught on to what’s going on in their own home market. How long can Ford remain completely clueless and keep their doors open???

  9. Once again douchbag jones…You should not post such ignorant comments, what are you like 10 years old? It’s amazing how little you know about cars, so it’s obvious this car was designed for people who know nothing about cars like you for example! Cars were safe in the 70’s? Rear head rests were proven to be unsafe? Ok…ya if you say so! This car is a perfect example of us junk!

  10. “Ford should just close down their NA operations, take what chips they have left and go abroad.”

You are an idiot. Do you know how long it takes to turn around a company? Do you know that that they know they have problems and are trying to do something about it? Do you know that this situation has built up from past mistakes and they are trying to correct it? I am phucking tired of the Ford bashing on this website from 16 year olds who don’t know better. I for one will be smiling when they turn it around saying “Told you so!”

  11. I don’t think I’ve ever been disgusted by a car as much as this before…..the ’04 Maxima was close, but grew on me…

So side curtain airbags are standard now? Alright! Now Ford is on par with Kia and Hyundai!

It’s sad that an engineer doesn’t understand what a HIGH MOUTED brake lamp is…

During this I seriously wanted to throw up a little…

I seriously rather have had them not redesign the Focus at ALL…

But I’m glad they are killing themselves with crap fror products….they deserve it.

They were planning for this heap of junk to cost less than bringing over the EuroMexi Focus…however it costed them MORE….this makes me giggle.

    Go GM!

My order of AmeriCAR preferences have shifted….

    1. GM
    2. Chrysler (a narrow margin between this and Ford)
    3. Ford
    4. Honda and Toyota (WHOOPS!)

I should just get a 4 dr Mk5 GTI and call it a freakin day.

  12. No rear headrests in the FIT either! Can we please move away from headrest conversation? It’s distracting people from the real craptasticness of this car.

There is nothing “euro” about this ugly turd.

  13. It’s worth mentioning that I drive Fords, and have for quite a while. I even owned a 2002 Focus ZX5 – a great little car by any measure.

But this thing is just embarrassing. I don’t know how much it cost to do this freshening, but what a horrible waste of money! They should have just gotten out of the small car business if this was the best they could do. This would have been a real hit for them… 15 years ago. I’m not a foreign car fan, but you can’t compare this to the new Civic and keep a straight face. Or even the new Saturn Astra. When will Ford wake up? And if GM can afford to bring the Astra to the states, why can’t Ford afford to bring over that European Focus???

  14. You weren’t kidding Vince … that video was painful to watch. I couldn’t watch it all. My question is what came first at Ford:

    1. The crappy, low skilled ford employee?

    or

    2. The crappy, low quality ford car?

    hmmmmmmmm
