I guess this will have to do for the next 2 years.
Until the all new one arrives…

  1. Vince any pics on the future 9-2x?
I know this is off the topic, but any pics on the new Toyota Matrix?

  2. Uh hello! 9-2X is a built by Subaru. GM sold all their stock in Subaru when they were heading for the toilet! Dude where have you been hiding…. under a Saab I guess.

  3. 3:43,

I am well aware that GM left the game behind.
There are rumors that SAAB might plan to build
a future 9-2x using a Opel Corsa platform.
    Uh…good bye.

  4. eh… who cares?!

    why should anyone care?
Other than heritage (i.e. long live the vikings!), what does SAAB offer that other cars don’t?

did they ever win the World Rally?
    is it the most reliable?
is it the ultimate driving machine?
    is it the cheapest?
    is it the fastest?

    again, who cares
    Just die already, and quietly!

  5. The biggest problem is Saab’s position: sporty? pontiac; Luxury? Buick; prestige? Cadillac; family? Chevrolet; European taste? Saturn. So where will Saab fit anyways? trash bin?

  6. Nothing new here except a nominal face lift. What annoys me is the tendency for so many cars to have unprotected doors–no rub strips at all. The new Saab is just another crappy style with doors that ding too easily.

The result is that car doors look like a relief map after a short time and the absence of a rub strip makes the doors look like the flat expanse of a refrigerator.

My suggestion to the dimbulb stylists out there: BRING BACK PROTECTIVE SIDE STRIPS!

  7. Quoting the other post: “The biggest problem is Saab’s position: sporty? pontiac; Luxury? Buick; prestige? Cadillac; family? Chevrolet; European taste? Saturn. So where will Saab fit anyways? trash bin?”

Are you kidding me? Pontiac is not sporty it is a crappy rental car; Buick is so far from luxurious it isn’t even funny, try a pre-hearse; Cadillac only represents prestige to those still clutching onto American luxury cars that barely exist; Chevy and Saturn are the family cars and Saab is hands-down the European taste winner. I’ve lived in Europe, Saab is definately a Euro-car. Let a car be what it is – – diversity is a good thing in the marketplace. Stop trying to make everything a BWM

  8. Pontiac will have G8, which is tested to be on-par with 5-series and E-class; Buick is enjoying successful sales with Enclave and the Chinese booming market; Caddillac has a few winners online: CTS SRX and Escalate; Saturn has Opels waiting to cross the Atlantic; Chevrolet is still the biggest nameplate in America. And Saab only has two decades old cars and competing with Acura, Volkswagen, and Volvo, all with superior products and dealership supports. Come to your senses, having two decades old “Euro-car” won’t make any money in North America. Conclusion: kill the brand or sell it.

  9. I understand that geography probably explains the differences of opinion on this forum… here in New England there are Saab’s everywhere and for good reason: they’re great in the winter and we Yankees LOVE their efficient turbo-charged 4 cylinder mainstay engine.

You shouldn’t “kill” or “let die” a brand just because it doesn’t sell as well as others (or in certain areas). The new Saab biodiesel and diesel engines are extraordinary and the XWD drive system is the first of it’s kind….both will serve as producers for the rest of the GM lineup.

Let cars belong to a niche market instead of forcing all cars to be so alike.

  10. I think a more appropriate complaint should focus on GM instead of specifically on Saab. All of their faults are due to GM’s practices. Cadillac’s escalade started as an obvioius re-badge just like Saab’s 9-7 (give it time to develop into something better). Buick has been left adrift until only recently. Pontiac might compete with better models because of big engines but they’re still plastic-laden beaters compared to competitors (and Holden rebadges in the case of G8)….
The fact remains that “the General” takes the cheap way out an awful lot. Once the new Saab’s hit the market (as they will in ’09) you could have a major turn around like Cadillac, Buick and Saturn. Keep ’em coming Saab!!

    That’s sad!
They got it from Subaru… doh…
If you have a Saab and you think it’s cool because of your lineage, and all japanese cars have no soul… then whatever!

my last name isn’t ended with -sen or -son, so SAAB has ZERO value to me other than bad looking cars that don’t sell well.

  12. They DID NOT get this tech from Subaru. Doesn’t anybody read the paper. There is NO relationship anymore, GM divested their stake in Subaru.

Not to mention that last post was overtly prejudiced….

  13. One thing that I like about the Saab design is that the belt lines have not creeped up like all the other cars in their class. It seems like cars in a few years will look more like tanks with only turret like gun slits for windows at this pace. At least the visibility in this car will be good.
