New RWD Lincoln Concept in Detroit

Last Updated:

Well…
Lincoln has already shown some great concepts in the past few years and we’ve never seen them in production.
The Continental concept (Top) would have been an amazing competitor to the DTS.
And the Mark X was gorgeous.
A luxury brand doesn’t need a convertible, right?

Let’s hope this new
RWD concept” leads to something.
Nobody is really excited about the upcoming MKS yet.

For their upcoming large sedan, they actually had thought about a longer version of the Mustang platform. And I always heard about a large Lincoln based on the 4WD Ford 500 platform.
I guess that idea is out…(not a bad thing)

  1. IT IS SOOOO OVER FOR FORD. THEY STILL HAVE THEIR HEADS WAY UP THEIR ARSES. WHAT A JOKE THOSE CARS ARE!!!

  2. Probably a Ford Falcon/ Jaguar XF sedan with skin redo. You can bet that future Mustang will be using the same platform too.

  3. I’m so excited, I’m soooooo EXCITED!!! less than 4 weeks… 26 days… 610 hours… …I mean they GOTTA build a concept one of these days, right? pure statistics dictates One will slip thru eventually! …orionOrionORION

  4. The concept will be based on the next Falcon platform form Australia.
    But with a Lincoln design
And it is supposed to be headed for production as the large Lincoln sedan.
(Just like GM is using the Australian platform for the Camaro).
let’s hope it looks good, and more like a Lincoln than the MKS…

  5. Uhh, the MKS is on the D3 platform, which also hosts the Volvo S80 and Ford Five Hundred.

So yes, there will be a large Lincoln based on the 4WD 500 base.

  6. for the person who claimed the continental had a dated design was a fool….just add the new lincoln grill and led tail lights, some better wheels, and some jeweled headlamps, and they’d have a hit on their hands

like the zepher concept…it was so muscular, so curvaceous, so attractive, with slim, elegant tail lights, yet the production version was this blocky, ill-proportioned, slab sided monstrosity.

if lincoln actually produced their concepts, they’d be gagillionaires.

  7. I ONCE OWNED A 1965 FORD GALAXIE 500 WAY BACK IN 1969. I DO NOT SEE MUCH DIFFERENCE IN THE CARS LINES. IT LOOKS LIKE A LINCOLN WITH A 67 PLYMOUTH FRONT GRILL AND HEADLAMPS. OLD OLD NEWS….

  8. I actually like both of these cars, even if the sedan looks a bit cartoonish. The retro styling cues are handsome.

But what is the point of these design exercises? We’ll never see them in production. Is Ford keeping the designers happy while the bean counters and execs hack it to bits?

Oh, wait, I forgot. It’s the UAW’s fault.

  9. No offense, Vince, but honestly I don’t think both models will sell…

the sedan looks like the old Infiniti M to me, and the Covert. is way too retro like the Ford Thunder Bird…

  10. That’s pretty much all the convertible was, a Thunderbird with a Lincoln design.
I think Lincoln should sell a larger 4 seater hardtop convertible for under $40000.
A modern car that would remind people of the true “American convertible”. Something classy.
I think there is a market for something like that.

  11. Jesus, I thought car people posted here? That blue Continental is the old concept from back in 2022! That is NOT what the 2007 concept will look like!

  12. Lincoln had a shot at a design theme that would’ve made it instantly recognizeable, one that would’ve made the brand desireable. Those concepts may be a little too retro, they can add some more modern touches but stay with the overall 60’s theme, an era where lincoln hit its height. the MKS strayed way too far from true lincoln indentity, looking too much like a Hyundai Azera/Grandeur (a good car and a good design, but not as a lincoln). The continental would be an excellent replacement for the Town Car, raining the brand’s image and offering truely unique cars with unique signature lincoln design. and as Vince said, a convertible would be a great addition to the line, help improve the lincoln image much in the same way as the XLR does for Cadillac, not all that profitable but adds something money cannot buy, PRESTIGE. Something lincoln used to have.

  13. Seeing these lincolns is actually very disturbing. It makes it clear that there is some serious internal conflict over at Ford/Lincoln. If this is showing what they could design, why on earth would they decide instead to deliver to us such mediocre products? Actually, I’m excited about the MKS. but not like I would be excited to see a production version of these two cars.

  14. If they were to build this, they would be ahead of the game and a return to what American cars really stand for.

  15. If they were to build this, they would be ahead of the game and a return to what American cars really stand for.

With all due respect, what do American cars “stand for?”
