A3 Convertible

Last Updated:

Yet another illustration of what the A3 convertible might look like.
One thing seems certain is the soft top.

But the A3 is already a few years old (it came out in Europe way before here) and the convertible is still about a year away.
How long before an all new A3 comes out???

Weird timing.

  1. The way VW/Audi seems to work is that each generation of their convertibles tend to last two generations of the fixed-roof version. That’s what we’ve seen with the 2nd gen Golf/Rabbit-based Cabrio, the Golf III-based Cabrio/Golf IV, and the current Audi A4 conv which was introduced with the last body style of the A4 sedan. It’s reasonable to assume that the upcoming A3 conv will live well through the next gen A3 platform.

  2. Way to cannibalize your sales Audi. A3 is $6000 cheaper than A4 avant with same engine… sure you get the Quattro with A4 Avant and little more space, but I’m not sure if it’s worth paying $6000 extra…

Let me guess… A3 convertible will pretty much like A4, and probably $6000 cheaper. Hrmm……

  3. it LOOKS a lot like the a4. the car portrayed in this pic doesn’t look fresh. it looks staid and a bit dated.

  4. Where has news of this car come from? I would be very surprised if Audi introduced an A3 convertible this late in the cars life, or at any time to be honest – it’s too close to the A4, would barely be any cheaper.

Also the comment is wrong about the A4 convertible being introduced with with previous sedan model’s body – it has always been based on the current model.

    Nope.

The current bodystyle A4 sedan was introduced in 2005. The current A4 convertible was introduced in 2003 with the last gen A4 sedan.

The 2005 version was nothing more than a facelift for the 2003 generation (but Audi still called it a new model).

The A3 convertible is heading for production. The platform used for the current A3 is very flexible and can be updated for the next generation. The Golf cabrio (Eos) and even the new TT start with A3 basics but are longer, wider and made from more expensive material but still based on A3.

The A4 convertible will end production soon and will be replaced by the larger A5 convertible based on an all new platform that will later be used for A4, A5 and A6.

The Larger A5 conv. will leave plenty of space for a A3 convertible with a soft top.

Where did you hear this? I hope it isn’t true. I was really looking forward to the next S4 Conv. If it were any smaller or larger, it just wouldn’t be as appealing for me.
