Forget Chinese cars.

Indian cars are coming!

The Mahindra brand (50% of the local market) claims they’ll enter the US market in 2007.
That is very soon.
An SUV and a pick up would be offered through about 130 dealers.

I have no idea how they intend to achieve this so fast.
So don’t hold your breath….

Here are pictures of the most recent offering, the Scorpio SUV
Why would this company would even consider entering the US market?
We are talking about a huge investment with cars that could barely compete…

  1. china and india should get together to build one vehicle thjat’s half as good as a ’72 skoda. individually, they can’t do it. Americans will not support communist countries.

  2. They are going to get to this market that quickly because the dealer network is already in place. The company that is importing them is the same company that had dealers lined up to sell Cross Landers. They promised these dealers a replacement when the Cross Lander deal went belly up and this is it.

  3. This just look so cheap, who would want to buy this crap? Even the CD player looks it belongs in a Power Wheels jeep.

Hey, How much You wanna bet? LOL.. they said the same in the 70’s about the japanese(and in the 60’s about VW Bugs)…. and the Koreans just 7 years ago.
Quit sleeping on the job, or typing your hate fille dnonsense on here, “UAW”.
as for the dude about fake plastic wood: WHO CARES?
You’re one dude out of 300 Million Americans, and at least 1/2 of thsoe drive right now.
If this thing is $12,000 4wd real truck/suv, and as good as say the 04 Sportage was… Not many people will cry like you do over some thing like fake wood.

Another “Buy American” or “Buy Japanese”(only) type.

People makin’ 8-12 dollars and hour Will Buy Stuff Like This.
There are MANY of ’em out there, too.
Hey, did ya know they built Jeep Willy’s for USA before( so, how much money do you make selling “your vehicles”? Oh, you aren’t selling or building vehicles? Well then….. maybe you don’t know everything about vehicles, perhaps? LOL… thing ain’t even here, and the #$%^& begins!).

  6. How is it possible that a vehicle can appear to be such absolute crap and still function as viable transportation? Okay, maybe if you are one paycheck away from being homeless and your five year old Corolla just died, then maybe maybe this would be an option. But no, there’s always a used four year old Corolla that’d be better than this.

  7. GOD ! The utter ignorance on this board. China is communist – yes. India is not. It in fact, is the largest and one of the most effective democracies in the world.

Mahindra and Mahindra was contracted to make some cars for Ford too some years ago. And they made the Willy’s for Jeep at one time. Their mainstay though, is tractors and farm equipment and I think they should stick to selling that in the States rather than blow their money on yet another SUV stateside.

  8. Hey A.I., I wonder what the “A” satnds for? anyhoo, if you have ever been to India, as I have, you would quickly realize that on paper they can call it what they wish, in reality, there is no better example of communism going. Very Rich, who control “everything” and therefore can do as they please. And the very poor who can’t afford to live. Corruption is rife and it is a mess!In factual practice, this is as communist a nation as you can find. Namastay bubba

  9. it’s Mahindra & Mahindra.http://www.cnn.com/2006/AUTOS/11/14/indian_suv/index.htmlthis says 2008(I ,too, had read elsewhere 2007… and they sell tractors in USA, gonna use an indepndent contractor/distributor, and the comapny was formed in 1945 to build Jeep Willy’s(looks like they have had practice building these suvs?).More stuff:Hey, this suv reminds me of the now defunct, truck based Sportage of 2-3 years ago.———————–http://www.industryweek.com/research/iw1000/2006/iw06Company.asp?Input=961————————–http://www.mahindra.com/mahindras/sectors/automotive_sectorgatewaypage.htm——————This says 1954, they started building jeep Willy’s(for Chrysler?) for India.I commented on this many moons ago, on this, and other sites…. the news is about 1 year old, that these guys wanna come here to USA.take care/not offense.their US Business profil
