2007 Dodge Nitro

Last Updated:

Based on the Jeep Liberty, the new Dodge SUV manages to look completely different.
And the interior design is a great fit .
I think it looks great and should be a big hit for Dodge. If they can keep the prices down.
The Durango is now too big for most people. This is right in the heart of the market.

In the US, at least 2 engines will be offered. The 3.7 Liter V6 (210hp) from the Liberty, with a choice of a 6 speed manual or 4 speed auto.
A 4.0Liter V6 (255hp) with a 5 speed auto will be standard in the RT version.

It looks like the base engine might not be any of these 2. No mention of what yet. (they list the 3.7 Liter as “available on the base model”, not standard)

Navigation and remote start are options.

The combination of a 4.0Liter engine and a brick like design doesn’t look good for the mileage though…A 5 speed auto in all models would help a bit. (This is 2006 after all…)

  1. Three models are available: Dodge Nitro, Dodge Nitro SLT and Dodge Nitro R/T. Available on the Dodge Nitro and Dodge Nitro SLT is a 3.7-liter SOHC V-6 engine. It produces 210 hp (157 kW) @ 5,200 rpm and 235 lb.-ft. (319 Nom) @ 4,000 rpm. The Dodge Nitro R/T features a new 4.0-liter V-6 engine that delivers 255 hp (190 kW) @ 5,800 rpm and 275 lb.-ft. torque (360 Nom) @ 4,000 rpm

  2. YUCK! the ONLY part of this I like are the little glowy arcs on the gauges… AND… are we gonna hafta put up with EVERY vehicle having fender-vents ’til the next fad?

  3. I think it will also do well-more space than the Liberty and a different image will help. Though for this kind of vehicle to really do well maybe hybrid models should be introduced for those that are still worried about SUVs and mileage-this would then pick up from where the RAV4, for example, left off.

  4. “Available ” doesn’t mean it’s the standard engine.
I suspect the base engine might be a 4 cylinder.
(from the way the press release is worded)

  5. Looks like they tried to copy the Toyota Prius but failed miserably. Not only does it look like a box on wheels but the fuel economy probably sucks. Oh well. I guess TOYOTA PWNs.

  6. EXCELLENT! LR3 Style & Quality for under $50k!. i was really getting sick of all the rolly-polly Kia/Rav4/Hyundai/Escape/Honda/Pontiac GENERICS!!! Finally NISSAN has some legitimate competition! The related (Trail Rated) Liberty is very agile & reliable off-road, but NITRO is alost a foot longer: Will it be as dependable, or will it keep getting stuck like my #$?*&^!!! ’05 ForeRunner???

  7. I personally like the “Brick-like” looks. It beats the shit out of Jelly -Bean style and the “way too much crap going on” style, like the Camry

The mileage may suck, but its a truck! I am tired of people having the “I want it all” mentality. They want their V8 powered truck-based SUV to carry their kid to soccer practice, but want it to sip fuel, be as fancy as a luxo-car, and blah blah blah. Use a vehicle for what its supposed to be

  8. The vehicle has full-time four-wheel drive and weighs in at 4115 pounds (1867 kg).
ok i read all 50 pages on the web about the nitro, and they all state the v-6 is standard, seeing this thing weighs over 2 tons and has full time 4 wheel drive, and takes almost 10 seconds to get to 60 mph i highly doubt they would burden this beast with a little 4 banger in the states, in europe there is talk about a 2.0 not sure if thats a diesel or not. I truly hope dcx prices this under 20k cause if you hold your hand over the front end it looks just like a h3 hummer, which i want one,, but way overpriced and way underpowered for my tastes. so dcx might have a real winner on there hands, alot more so with the nitro than the lmao aspen !!!

  9. I really do like the styling. The interior looks pretty good to the point that it makes me wonder why the hell they can’t do the Caliber’s interior as good as this one.

That said, I personally wouldn’t be interested in the Nitro, UNLESS they offer it with the Libertys CR Diesel engine.

  10. Anybody else notice how they placed the shifter away from the drive on the passenger side of the center console. Why?
