Pontiac Solstice GXP

Last Updated:

GM was able to squeeze 260hp out of their 2.0 liter engine by adding a Turbo, and the 1st car to get it is the Solstice.
It’s great to see that they didn’t add any crap to the car, like a bunch of spoilers etc…

But it is still hard to get your hand on a regular Solstice. I wonder how rare this one might be…

  1. Every time i see the Solstice it says “drive me”. This is one sweeeet looking ride!

If only GM could build more like these!!!

  2. Yeah, the Solstice is the best GM car (under $40K) but I’m still not hot and bothered by it.

I am very impressed that GM fitted Direct Injection to one of their engines. The real question is why can’t they fit any of the good technology to their mainstream engines (/Rant Mode). Iron blocks? Pushrods? Only now they are adding VVT timing on their engines, what, 15 years after Honda! Whats good is Cylinder Deactivation, but even THATS only on their $35K+ guzzling SUVs

  3. Phafanapolis, why are you always so negative? I like coming to this site, but you’re always a kill joy.

  4. Phafanapolis,

The rest of GM’s engines will get things like direct injection it just takes them time.

  5. this one time i was driving the new solstice and i pooped myself and it smelt real bad and then my dog died cus the poo smelled so bad

  6. “this one time i was driving the new solstice and i pooped myself..” what the hell does that mean? truly pathetic!

    clean your act up troll!

  7. This looks like a great car… If it was made by anyone other than GM, people would just say that and shut up… but its a GM, so I gotta add some crap to my comment…
Why can’t GM blah blah blah…
Why doesn’t GM blah blah blah…
If only GM could blah blah blah…

  8. Cylinder deactivation is available on the GMT900 SUVs, the Impala SS, Pontiac Grand Prix, and the Lucerne. It is coming to GM’s V6s next.

GM’s V8 pushrod engines are all alluminum blocks. They don’t make them in iron block any longer. Only the Vortec 4300 V6s is an iron block and it is slowly going away. It is currently only used in their trucks.

VVT has existed on all of their overhead cam engines (northstar, echostar) This is the first production pushrod to have it.

I’m still trying to fathom why people thing pushrods are LESS technical than any other internal combustion engine. Overhead Cams have been around for ages too. GM’s pushrods have very high reliablity, great low end torque, and allow alot of power in a small package at a reasonable price. Pushrods, by their nature, have fewer mechanical parts and less points of failure.

People look at OHC engines as the performance engine, yet two of the baddest engines out there are pushrod, the Viper V-10 and the Corvette LS7. Even DCX’s Hemi (which also has cylinder deactivation) is a pushrod.

Speaking of cylinder deactivation, where is Toyota and Nissan? Honda is the only import that offers it.

  9. i agree with the fact old pontiac messed cars up with body cladding and spoilers, but u cant tell these 2 apart, mercedes, bmw, audi, even cadillac do a good job with letting u know it is a special model, without overdoing it, pontiac should have done the same. but nice looking car

Hey Mr flash back to the 50s, pushrods are old POS tech because they only have 2 valves per cyl. Pushrods suck and everybody knows it… except you.

  11. Well you just illustrated that you don’t know dick about engines. Pushrods have existed since the late 19th Century.

The OHC engine was first used in a car in 1912 when Peugeot put a 500cc DOHC (yes DUAL OHC) engine in its race car.

In your infintile rant, you completely missed the point. The location of a CAM doesn’t make a technology obsolete. In the end, it is still an internal combustion engine based on technology that is over a 100 years old. OHC and OHV engines take different routes to accomplish the same thing.

Hell, using your logic, gasoline hybrids are obsolete because they have existed since 1899.

Oh, and Pushrods aren’t limited to 2 valves. The Gen IV V8s from GM have 3 valves per cylinder and Cummins pushrod diesel has 4 valves per cylinder.

WOW you used google and found a diesel and 10 year old V8 with more rocker arms than cyls. WOW man WOW!!!
Look out hun cuz im usin technology.
