More pictures of the new Mazda CX-30

Last Updated:

While the CX-3 is basically a crossover version of the tiny Mazda 2, the CX-30 borrows a lot from the new generation Mazda 3.
Which, I guess, could be a very popular recipe. And mostly fix the horrendous rear visibility/claustrophobic feeling of the Mazda 3 Hatchback version.
These pictures are of the European version (We obviously won’t be getting the cool stick shift over here…)
And it does look cute. It seems to be addressing the lack of rear room problem of the CX-3 at least.
it could be quieter and smoother too (That’s not hard to do)
But. There is A LOT of that black plastic trim. I mean look how thick it is around the wheels.
And the lower body is completely covered too.
It could actually look fine in the flesh. But it does look a bit much on the pictures…

  1. I really don't understand where this is supposed to slot in the lineup.. other than essentially being a replacement for the former Mazda3 hatchback (since the new one is apparently being marketed as an upscale coupe alternative instead of a direct replacement). I'm still holding out hope that the CX-3 will still exist, perhaps as a less clad and more carlike version of this.. and maybe we can also get more aggressive SUV-like CX-50 and CX-90 versions to sell alongside the existing refined CX-5 and CX-9.

  2. The Mazda 3 hatch does offer a sexy red burgundy interior, so far not feature or seen on the CX-30, that makes it more appealing. Mazda should see a video backup camera for a cleaner view of what's behind you.
    Problem solved, Burlapp.

Yes, there will be two digits and the letters in future Mazda's line up.

  3. In this class, the black trim seems to come with the territory. The Hyundai Kona is full of this too. I think this will eventually replace the CX-3 in the line up. I believe Mazda is revising their model designations. 30, 50, 60, 90, etc., will become the norm. All part of the intended premium branding, and taking a card from Infiniti.
