Volvo Polestar 2

Last Updated:

As predicted, the all-new Volvo Polestar 2 EV looks a lot like the 40.2 Concept from 2016.
So I would not call it an all-new design since we have seen it before.
But the concept looked really good, and I think the production version actually improves on it.
This is really the very first head-on competition to the Tesla Model 3.
The Polestar 2 has a 275 miles range from a 300kW (408HP) powertrain.
Production will start in China early next year.
Apparently, for the first year, only an expensive Launch Version will be available.
For $63 000 in the US.
The base model should start at around $43 000.
(Which means other models than the Launch Edition are still 2 years away…)
It will be interesting to see what you get in the base model. And see the car in other colors, inside and out.

  1. This thing is beautiful … so much nicer than the suppositories that Tesla sharts out its dusty tent-factories.

Still, only offering $63k+ versions will seriously limit the appeal. Volvo has an excellent opportunity to grab market share and get some "eLoyalty" from people, and instead they will keep folk out of their showrooms and looking elsewhere for something affordable.

  2. I really like the front end design, which gives he car a hundkered down stance. The profile is nice, but very much like the Kia Optima.

What I don't like is the black panel on the C pillar, used to enlarge the appearance of the DLO. Everyone does it to varying degrees, but this is too much.

It's also notable as the first car to have native Android Auto.

  3. At least the gear selector will be protected after global warming floods the Left Coast.

The lower cladding tells me this is a tall sedan. That's what I'd like if the floor isn't too high. The concave front may be the next big thing (the Cadillac EV showed one too). It would be nice to end "Aero uber alles" for EVs.

  4. Interior is good. The rest is horrible. The only design piece l like (Thst a lot of car companies are doing) before the grill the headlight gets really narrow and Jults up to meet grill

  5. Kind of a shame we'll never see a S40 version of this, but the high-stanced design is better suited to the Electric crossover trend. This actually seems like more of a competitor to the Jaguar i-Pace than the Model 3, particularly at that Launch Version price.

  6. Tesla is going to be releasing it compact crossover Model Y on March 14th. This Volvo is DOA now!

  7. The Polestar 3 shown here does NOT compete with the Tesla Model Y.
It goes against the Tesla model 3.

The upcoming Polestar 3 will be a crossover and will compete with the new Tesla Molde Y.
