2019 Nissan Altima

Last Updated:

I was just wondering: “What happened to the new Altima”??

Sure, it is available “in the fall”. But that’s pretty soon. There has been no reviews or press events (that I know of) yet.

So I thought I’d post a few pictures that I don’t remember seeing before.
In various colors. (At least it comes in colors, not just black, grey and white)

I still think the current one is just fine. Nothing exciting, but rather pleasant to drive. As long as you don’t really push it.
I am not sure the “all new” one is enough to stand out.

The Accord and Mazda6 have the “driver’s car” end of the spectrum cornered.
The Camry represents the “tons of repeat buyers” crowd.
While the Passat is the conservative choice.

I wonder what the new Altima wants to be. Except popular.

It will be offered with an AWD option which would be nice in snowy states.
New turbo engine.
Sales of the current model have been dropping every year from 2014. Down to 255 000 last year. (only 140 000 so far this year)

Is the new one “new enough”?

What do you think?

  1. Meh. Not on my buying radar but it's nice enough. Dash seems Mazda-esque which is good. You do see a lot of Altimas (and VWs) around Middle Tennessee since they're made here, but more common are the Nissan SUVs and especially crossovers. I wish Nissan well with this car if only for jobs and money in the state.

  2. ooo I like the amber turn signals. I wonder if the photos are of a Euro version.

The interior layout seem good. (except for the tablet)

  3. The only reason the current Altima has sold was $$ on the hood.

The new one is quite nice; beyond the ridiculously ugly face (not sure how it or the new Accords face passed ANY focus group marketing).

The biggest problem w/ Nissan is they're nice to drive for the first 100,000km – then completely fall apart. It's basically planned obsolescence. After being stung by 2 Nissans of this nature (and then the abysmal dealer support of said problems) – I'll never go to another one, and I make a point of letting my friends know when looking to buy. Most of my friends who've owned Nissan experience the exact same issues.

So – if you're looking for a car that is discounted, and are only interested in keeping for 80,000km's – go w/ Nissan I guess.

  4. "I wonder what the new Altima wants to be. Except popular."

It's going to continue to be the car of choice for subprime buyers. This is a terrible design that already looks ancient because it's been used on the Maxima for four years.

  5. It looks good, the name sucks. I drove a rental recently and enjoyed it. Quiet, nice materials (for a rental), and nice pick up for a 4 cylinder. The highway ride was a little unsteady compared to a Kia Optima. Too many choices in the space, in addition to crossovers.

  6. I disagree with the planned obsolescence comment. I owned a 1991 Pathfinder until 205,000mi (330,000km) and my wife's 2005 Altima is at 93,000mi (150,000km) and still going strong.

I'm glad they didn't go all black on the C pillar like the Maxima but wish the monster grille was half as tall and beige was still offered as an interior color.

  7. I haven't been a fan of Nissan sedan designs for quite a while now. But I think this one looks good!

  8. Vince I know you hate the tablet design – but I like it. I have a Mazda 3 and I love the screen placement and the infortainment/nav system. However. I don't think I would like it as much if I had to use the touch screen. I have the control knob down by the gear shift and it is amazing. For the life of me I don't understand why every car doesn't use this. Nissan even has the parts as They use a control knob on the maxima and infiniti models. If mazda can have this feature on such an inexpensive car, there is no reason not to have on everything.

  9. I am so sick of the gimmicky floating roof effect, which here looks like a cheap plastic applique.

  10. People gripe about "the front" and the grille on this Altima, but sadly that's the best looking part of this car

  11. I have a 2005 Armada, as of today it got 329923 miles (531176 km) on it. only problem no wants it, second problem it runs good after all these miles.
I got tired of using same car for so long, now I bought 2018 QX80

I have leased 2013 Altima, much better than previous version. Not a fan of CVT, but that's what it selling this car, CVT=Good MPG

yes this new 2019 looks old, it may looks great in person

Hey – I'm glad for you! If Nissan works for you – keep driving them! Unfortunately, your experience has not been mine; nor most of my friends who have owned Nissans. Based upon my experiences (and my follow up to HO at the time -which resulted in zero response from them); I won't sink another dime into a Nissan product – ever.

Funny (true) story -one Nissan dealership told me that I needed to replace the timing chain on my Murano (which was why it was burning oil according to them); and quoted me how much it was do to that…Murano's don't have timing chains – and it's not related, at all, to why it was burning oil (I dumped the car for a Mazda before finding out the real reason); but every mechanic I talked to laughed at the notion….and this was just one instance of abysmal service provided by Nissan….

  13. Murano's don't have timing chains …

Bozo alert! So…..the Murano has a timing belt? Really? I am so glad you are telling us a "true", but funny story by crapping on Nissans. Mazda used car salesman perhaps?

Bozo alert! I never said a Murano had a timing chain. AND I clarified w/ him if he meant a timing belt. You must be a desperate Nissan sales person.

I have many more instances of MY pour experiences w/ Nissan. But, as I said before, if Nissan's work for you – and you like them, all the power to you.

  15. All Nissans have timing chains. If you ever drove one, you would know by now. But, hey, I am glad, you know why it was burning oil….just don’t tell us.
